"Sev, I gotta tell you the truth... I just met a God..."
Sev was profoundly confused, he had sensed something far amiss yet, how could it be a god? Trying to play down the situation, he gave a hollow laugh before speaking, "What do you mean, you just met a God?" Internally he hoped that she had misinterpreted what had happened, or at least been confused...
"Sev, I met a real God. Not some being who has neared divinity. A real, full-fledged God."
"What do you mean? How could it be a god!?!" his fright energizing his voice, slowly rising higher and higher.
Quietly, Nora replied, "She knew about my past, she knew about everything... She gifted me whatever it was that possessed me. She even said that back when I was the First Paragon, she had been looking forward to my company once I ascended into divinity..."
"You mean..." as the realization hit him, he fell to his knees, "a god..."
"She left before I could ask her about the so-called, 'gift'. Something about telling me in due time..."
Not knowing what to say, Sev, Nora, and Mirlie all became silent. What was there to say? This wasn't a situation anyone was prepared for.
The silence stood for several minutes until Nora finally realized that Lucius was missing.
"Sev," her voice still soft and quiet in the aftermath of the mysterious being visiting, "where's Lucius?"
Suddenly freeing himself from his silent trance, Sev replied, "Oh, Lucius went to try to find a trail to track. Apparently, the Horseman had a group of Newborn Revenants with him. Revenants normally leave a trail wherever they go, we should be able to get a lead of their whereabouts."
"Why don't we go too?"
"He's much faster than us, we'll only be in his way. Plus, he's the best tracker out of all of us..."
"Well... we'll see about that." in a moment of decisiveness, Nora decided that she would help out Lucius, although Sev and Mirlie as mages may not have the physique to keep up with Lucius, she was willing to bet that as a cultivator, she could at least give it a fair shot.
Nora began to walk out of the room, only to stop at the doorway, looking back she couldn't help herself, "Mirlie," with the mention of her name, she hid behind Sev. Nora could only sigh as she continued speaking, "I'm truly sorry for what I did, I hope you understand that I wasn't in control of my actions, please forgive me..." without waiting for a response, Nora bolted her way towards the front entrance, out into the streets, and out of Retford.
-
Nearly an entire hour later, Lucius had arrived at the ambush site. The carriage still toppled over and lying on its side. The bright banners which had been hanging from the sides of the carriage now rested in torn pieces across the entire gravel road.
Instinctively, as someone well versed in undead creatures, he could faintly smell sulphur.
'Luckily I got here in time,' sighing in relief he paused, he could hear someone approaching him from behind.
Spinning around as fast as he could, his eye's met disappointment when he realized it had been Nora. 'Wait... why was Nora here? How did she nearly catch up with me? She's truly a monster...
'Damn! I almost caught up with him!!!' inside Nora felt slightly disappointed, she had truly run at her top speed yet she barely missed the mark.
"So Lucius, can you track them?"
"It's very simple, try to sense the dark particles in the air... Then, try to sense any particular spot with excess particles, afterwards, find the next adjacent spot with a higher number of particles. Using this method you can construct a line of which direction they went. The lingering excess particles slowly disperse after some time, the higher the number of particles the fresher, therefore whenever you following the next higher number of particles, you're technically following their exact path. Pretty neat huh?"
Nora couldn't resist as she thought to herself, 'That's incredibly, no, unimaginatively simple...'
"Impressive right?"
"Yeah... super impressive..."
