Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten: Planning

Jade was undecided when she sighed and began to walk up the stairs into the school. She wanted to prove herself, but she was terrified. In Incubus seemed too dangerous to her, especially when its alluring magic could paralyze her in an instant.

'Going with a partner is best, especially when my partner is a Demon.'

Jade smiled to herself as she walked into the school. The crowd, like yesterday, completely avoided her. Stopping at her locker, Jade leaned against it, staring out into the crowd of students. It was hard for her to believe it was only her second day. Her attraction to Derik had been instant, and it had grown rapidly. Hell, they barely knew each other. Jade knew exactly four things about him.

'One: He's a Demon. Two: He's the son of the founder of Gun City. Three: He's a powerful Asshole. Four: I am deeply attracted to him.'

Jade had been lost in thought, and the large group of Derik's came towards her, the sandy-haired kid looking pissed.

"Didn't I tell you to get lost yesterday." He growled.

"My apologies, I can't be near my own locker?" She snapped back.

"Easy you two," Derik said.

The sandy-haired kid gave her another glare, then backed down. Jade, on the other hand, continued to glare.

'He's such an asshole.'

"Jade." Derik said, getting her attention.

"Yeah?" Jade asked, looking towards Derik, trying not to show how much his voice affected her.

"Relax. I can do this on my own if you're too nervous." Derik said, concern in his voice.

"No. I'm a Hunter. I can do this." She replied, trying to ignore the confused looks of his entourage.

Derik smiled down at her gently, leaning closer to her. Her heart sped up, a blush rising to her face. They were in public, and she was aware of the silence of the school as the students held their breath. Derik kissed her lightly and briefly, then speaking so only she could hear.

"That's why I love you. Even when you're terrified, you fight." A light chuckle came from him as he pulled away, the air in the school thick with silence, with shock.

With a small smile, Jade looked at Derik's followers. They all had a similar look of shock, staring at Derik.

"Let's go," Derik said, turning and walking away. Jade immediately went to his side, walking with his pace. Around them, the students whispered to one another or stared at them. Apparently, Derik didn't pull that too often. Derik's group trailed behind. Jade could feel their stares boring into her back, but she ignored it. It felt as if nothing could ruin her mood.

'Derik just said he loved me!'

Derik and Jade led the way out of school, the group still following them. About three blocks down, Derik entered a small cafe. When everyone was in, the cafe owner led them to a small back room with a table, which they sat around, and a counter with soda.

"So. What the hell is going on here?" One of the group asked.

He had black hair and his eyes were the same color.

"Yeah, we want to know." The sandy-haired guy said.

"Relax. Mark, Jones. This is Jade, a third-generation Demon Hunter. She'll be helping us kill or run out the Incubus." Derik said, pulling out a familiar leather-covered book. "Speaking of that, here's the book you wanted."

"Not so much wanted as needed," Jade said. "It's my father's Hunting journal. Everything he was going to teach me is in here."

"So, it tells how to kill an Incubus?" The sandy-haired guy, Jones, asked.

"Yes. It has every bit of information my father knows about class one to class five Demons, and how kill them." Jade explained.

"Class one and class five?" Derik asked, seeming amused. "You rank us?"

"Er, yeah. In case you haven't noticed, you're super powerful. Hunter's rank Demons into Classes, so we know who to send out on a call, or how many." Jade said, her face heating more. "It's a reason my father is known as the best. My grandfather dedicated his life to studying Demons..." She trailed off, not willing to finish.

Her grandfather had done some messed up things, including torture of both Demons and people.

"Okay, so we know why she's here, but what was that, back at school?" Mark asked, staring directly at Jade.

"I'm attracted to her. Is that wrong, to kiss the one you're attracted to?" Derik replied.

"Attracted to her? You have to be fucking joking!" Jones said, glaring at Derik.

"She's a Hunter."

"She'll kill you just as easily as she'll kiss you."

"She's human."

The other guys that made up Derik's group spoke above one another, trying to be heard. Jade simply focused on the journal, looking for specific information.

'How did he find me?'

While skimming through the journal, she lost focus on the conversation. She bit her lower lip in concentration, completely focused on the words. Finally, she found what she looking for.

"Ah-hah..." Jade mumbled.

The table went silent, waiting for Jade to speak. Derik gently touched her cheek to get her attention. Jade looked up, startled.

"What did you find?" Derik asked the question replicated on the faces of his group.

"A possible weakness for the Incubus." She said.

"Read it." Derik encouraged.

"Okay, so it says here, 'Once Incubi taste a soul, they will never stop pursuing until their hunger is met. They will have a taste only for that person, and their predatory instincts will activate. They will attack and kill any other males around their prey.' And since that incubus was in my room..."

"He'll be tracking you." Mark finished.

"Exactly," Jade said, sighing and putting her head down on the table.

"I'd like to see him try to take you," Derik said, his eyes going dark, his aura becoming menacing.

Jade smiled to herself.

'Yeah, I'd like to see that Incubus try to get past Derik in one piece.'
