Chapter 6 - Getting Funding

"Not at all. I painted it myself. A paint job like this only costs around $20 - $30. I could make a business out of this. What do you guys think?"

"No way! Just the paint itself should cost that much!" Mr. Rocker replied.

"I've got my ways..." Bruno replied mysteriously.

"Okay, fine. That sounds like a great business idea. So what do you need from us?" Mrs. Rocker asked.

"As you may have heard, my foster parents kicked me out because they're not receiving any support money from the government anymore since I'm an adult now."

"Yes, I heard. Are you okay?" Sarah was concerned.

"Yeah I'm fine, I just need some money to buy a garage and set up my company."

"I think your idea is viable and I'm willing to support it." Mr. Rocker replied. "But leasing a rental space is expensive especially in New York City."

"Yeah exactly. It costs around $50,000 per month for a prime area in New York City."

"How about I loan you $100,000 and you pay me back with 0% interest. I think you need this money to get up on your feet, and then you'll be very successful. I can see it in you."

"Mr. Rocker! I can't accept a 0% interest rate. Aren't you worried that I might lose all of your money?"

"Of course not. If I didn't think you were smart, I wouldn't let you date my daughter." Mr. Rocker laughed.

"Dad!" Sarah cried embarrassed.

"Oh come on honey! At least I know that he's right for you. So Bruno what do you think?"

"I love your offer and I will not disappoint you!"

"What's your vision for the company, Bruno?"

"I want to start off as a high-end car paint shop, but then slowly move to modifying cars as well. I don't think customers will trust me with modifications until I establish a well-known company."

After some more chatting about the specifics on the ride back to the Rocker home, upon arrival, they signed a contract for a $100,000 loan with 0% interest. Bruno was ecstatic and immediately grabbed a computer to find a good spot for his tuning garage.

He looked over the options with Sarah and found one for $70,000 per month near downtown. His initial estimate of $50,000 was too ambitious and it seems like Mr. Rocker had predicted that so he gave Bruno some extra money. Right across the Brooklyn Bridge from the retail location were some of the most affluential neighborhoods in New York, including Brooklyn Heights.
