Chapter 40 - Unexpected

Felix misses me?

Am I finally going to get out of here?

***

After receiving that message from Felix I placed the phone back in its hiding place of under the carpet that was under the bed. I didn't want to get caught. Azrael seemed to be sleeping peacefully, he was sleeping like a baby (this is gonna be weird) which I found a little, teensy bit cute but don't tell him that.

What is wrong with me?

Hopefully, he can't read my thoughts while he's asleep. Also where the heck is this "watching people while they sleep and thinking they're cute" obsession coming from? This author giving me unhealthy disorders. I'm not obsessive okay, I just can't sleep. Sleeping disorder? Perhaps? Maybe? I guess, but oh well.

Here I am finding the person who "kiddapped me" cute?

"This is some twisted Shiitake Mushrooms."

Author? You right in your head? You making my mental health go to Shi... Shiitake, it's going down the toilet like some of my brain cells.

Any sane person wouldn't fall for their kidnapper.

"Damn it, I can't sleep!" I said to myself in a whisper shout tone. I didn't want to wake Azrael but I was annoyed with myself for refusing to get some shut eye. This seemed to be common though, every night I would find it hard to sleep well, at least since I got the necklace Eva gave me and most nights I basically had to force my eyes shut until sleep eventually took over.

Was this insomnia? I thought to myself. Maybe it had something to do with the necklace? Other than the necklace turning me into a soul that wanders around when I'm unconscious and the glowing, floating in midair thing it does I had no idea what else it was capable of doing. I never took it off since the day I got it and Cara, the girl I met at the quaint little antique shop claims that it's very powerful and is one of the reasons I was in danger.

However, one of the people that was "apparently" after me already got me... Azrael, and he was still fast asleep on the sofa. He didn't really seem to be interested in the little trinket, necklace and seemed to be more interested in the "package" as he claims, itself which was me. Honestly, I don't even think he knew about the necklace.

Laying on the bed my gaze was still on Azrael as the moonlight continued to filter into the room. The moonlight always seemed to be so bright here, that is wherever we are. Wherever "here" is, I guess. It was going for 4:00 and I still could not sleep. I attempted to close my eyes as I had done before. I was going to force myself to sleep until hopefully, sleep would take over and my eyelids would shut.

I've been here exactly, for a day now well, it's 4am in the morning so I've been here for two days now since my arrival. Once today ends I'll just have one more day to go... that's if Felix doesn't rescue me, I don't figure something out asap, if I win this bet and if Azrael actually stays true to his word and let's me go on the third day.

What happens if Azrael doesn't stay true to his word?

What if I am already stuck here?

What if I'm stuck here forever?

It was ironic that I thought all these things but I never even bothered to escape once, well except for that time he brought me to that empty field with all the stars, I did try to escape back then (back then? What am I saying? It only happened a day ago, I'm making it sound like it happened ages ago) but I always ended up running back to him since he basically trapped me here. It was like he put a spell on the place or maybe he put me under some sort of spell or enchantment? I don't know?

Was I bound to this place?

Trapped?

Well there's only one way to test this theory... and that's by escaping.

I hadn't tried to escape this place but I figured it wouldn't work anyway since this seemed like some type of return spell. Everytime I would try to escape from him I'd just return back to him so I gave up. There was no point in running but now that I think about it.

Maybe he was bluffing?

Maybe this was all a bluff?

Maybe the spell wore off?

Maybe I could leave?

This was definitely a theory I would have to test and I definitely wouldn't want to get caught.

What would happen if I got caught?

It was impossible for me to sleep with all these thoughts running through my head. My mind was completely awake. I shut my eyes tightly. This was my second attempt to sleep. Why did I choose this... to sleep instead of trying to escape?

Just as I was about to decide on what I should do, with my eyes still seemingly shut of course, a bright blue light began to flicker. The same blue that I had seen before. The same blue as the colour Azrael's eyes turned when he tried to save me from drowning and the same blue as the necklace Eva gave me. The light shot through the cracks between my eyelids and shone through my eyelashes which kept me from sleeping.

I opened my eyes, my eyes shooting open, to see a familiar sight and course it was the necklace, I still had around my neck, floating in midair as it's bright blue light continuously flickered in the darkness of the room. The chain however, was still attached to my neck as I felt it tug at my skin, like it was trying to pull me. The necklace wanted to show me something again. It was exactly like the other time this happened.

I blinked a couple of times as I saw the necklace was still floating above my head. I sat up as the necklace continued to float towards the direction of Azrael? My eyes landing on him as I looked at which direction the necklace was tugging me towards.

The moonlight was beyond bright tonight and it seemed as though Azrael was glowing in its pure white light. His body was surround by light and yet he didn't move and just stayed as still as a statue. His eyes didn't even flinch as he rested without any movement. All that could be heard was his heavy breaths as he inhaled and exhaled in his deep slumber. His chest rising and falling as he did so. He was like a dead corpse in a coffin or a vampire? Meh. Surrounded by an angelic light.

Why was I admiring this?

The necklace continuously tugged at the back of my neck as the pendant glowed bright blue and floated in front of me. It was pulling me towards Azrael's direction as I stumbled to my feet, almost falling to the floor, the words "Woah..." escaping my lips silently since I was still trying not to wake Azrael. I nearly lost my balance while I was being dragged towards his direction but I managed to find my footing as I began to walk slowly towards him with the necklace still hovering in front of me. The bright blue light getting brighter and brighter with every step I took.

I followed the necklace step by step as it tugged me towards Azrael but the closer I got to him the more I would hear a voice echoing in the silence of room. It felt like it was in my head at the time but I know how annoying my conscience sounds and it never sounded like that so of course it wasn't in my head. This was more of a wise voice (I have no idea how I can hear if a person is wise by their tone of voice, but let's continue).

The voice seemed to be coming from my necklace. It was the voice of a woman. I was hearing the voice of a woman echo throughout the room and she was calling my name. It was a beautiful sounding voice, so enchanting, almost like it was straight out of a fairytale and if I didn't know any better I would have sworn it was a siren trying to lure me.

"Alice, Alice..." I heard her voice echo in the silence of the room. With each step I took forward I got closer to where Azrael was, sleeping peacefully. I was in the middle of the room now. I glanced over to see the bed not far behind me and of course it was covered in darkness but what did I expect when I was in a room with nothing but moonlight filtering in and of course I didn't bother to put on the lights either because then Azrael would surely have woken up. Why am I making all these excuses?

I looked ahead of me. I was already halfway, what would be the point of going back now? Quite frankly, I was too lazy to turn around and if I did I'd probably end up having an argument with my necklace (boy I sound crazy, but that would be a peculiar sight indeed and I would probably be thrown into a mental health care facility. I feel that, that sounds better than me saying a mental institution) since it's destination was Azrael for some reason?

It seemed so odd that with each step I took the angelic light that surrounded Azrael got brighter and brighter and so did the bright blue light the necklace was giving off.

"Alice... Alice..." I heard the voice stretch out my name. It was almost like when you play hide and seek and the seeker or the person trying to find you calls for you in order to lure you out of hiding. "Aaalice..." I heard the voice again.

"Who's there?" I whispered as I took another step forward, still trying my utmost best not to wake Azrael.

"Aaalice..." My name was dragged out again by the voice. I swear the voice was coming from the necklace, either that or I had for sure lost my marbles but then again I never had any marbles to begin with. *Drum roll* And that's what happens when you take things too literally, says the sarcastic voice in my head.

"What do you want?" I murmured as my voice echoed through the silence of the room.

"Aaaalice..." The voice murmured again sending echoes throughout the room. How on earth did Azrael not wake up? The woman's voice wasn't that loud but it was loud enough to be heard. Her voice echoed in my ears. With every step I took towards Azrael's direction, the more her voice intensified, her voice raising and amplifying with each step that brought me closer to him. Yet, he had not moved, he had not woken. He was in such a deep slumber.

The necklace and the light around Azrael getting brighter and brighter. Suddenly, the necklace shot up in front of me. It was glowing beyond bright. "Woah..." I got the fright of my life. It shot up in front of my face and was hovering between my eyes, the pendant still glowing as it almost touched my nose. The voice echoed once again.

"Yep, it was definitely coming from the necklace."

"Aaalice..." The necklace was still pulling me roughly towards Azrael. I stumbled quite a bit as I was being pulled so impatiently by the agro necklace.

I stumbled forward again looking back to the bed as I was tugged again and pulled forward once more with my head turning to look in Azrael's direction. I was no longer in the middle of the room now, with all the tugging. The necklace continually pulled me. "Woah..." I stumbled until I eventually reached him which took a bit longer than I expected since I fell and had to get up most of the time.

Really necklace? You could have just told me to go to him instead of pulling me all the way there and making me fall all the time.

I stumbled closer towards Azrael as I looked back once again only to be tugged forward by the necklace.

"Aaaalice..." The voice stretched out my name. The angelic light that surrounded Azrael getting brighter and brighter as I was mere inches away from him. The pendant around my neck also continued to glow brighter and brighter as I approached him.

The closer I got to him the more the light would brighten and with every step I took the necklace brightened as well, both lights getting extremely bright that I was nearly blinded which resulted in me covering my eyes with my one hand but I could still see the light coming through the cracks in my fingers.

Just as I blinked the room was consumed by light and it was almost as if both lights, the angelic light and the light from the pendant collided with each other. I heard a zinging sound almost like when you faint or you in trauma and that was all I could hear until the light just disappear as I got to the sofa he was on. I felt my leg bump into it since I couldn't see.

I removed my hand from my eyes once I was sure that there was no light coming through the cracks of my fingers. I didn't want to get blinded. The room was completely dark now, it was pitch black and it was beyond silent as well. There was no moonlight filtering in, there was no anything, just pure darkness. I looked back to see just black. I couldn't even see the bed now and I couldn't really see Azrael either when I looked in front of me but I was very close to him so I did catch a glimpse of his silhouette.

I could hear him breathing. A few minutes passed. The voice the necklace echoed before was silent. Everything was quiet. I looked at Azrael's silhouette.

Why was I here?

What was I supposed to do?

Why did the necklace bring me all the way here?

I didn't know what I was supposed to do so I placed my hand on Azrael's chest. I touched him and just as I thought everything had cooled down the necklace shot up and before I could cover my eyes the whole room was consumed by brightness, the same brightness that encompassed the room a few moments ago. The same angelic brightness that nearly blinded me. Out of nowhere Azrael's eyes shot open turning the same blue they turned when he saved me.

I was blinded. Blinded by the light I was trying to avoid. I couldn't see anything now except for white bright light and ice blue glowing eyes that shone before me. Oh how my eyes stung. Too bright, too bright.

"Alice." I heard Azrael's voice. "What did you do?"

What's going on?

To be continued...
