Chereads / A Black Cat's Magic / Chapter 22 - Guardian

Chapter 22 - Guardian

After a moment of standing in his grasp my eyes eventually lowered to the unknown, to reveal that... he indeed had a pants on. How relieved I felt to know that he was not naked after all.

I was still in Felix's hold when I finally came to my senses. And me being me... tried to push him away. Slowly yet ever so gently pushing my hand against his chest so that he could hopefully, well for my sake move back. I was most probably blushing and most definitely flustered since my hand had to come into contact with his bare chest.

But for some reason he wouldn't budge and just kept me in his grip. Then as I began to panic because I couldn't move, my heart beating rapidly in my chest, I heard him take a deep breath... like he was breathing in my sent. His minty breath hitting against my ear as he released the breath of air he had taken his time to breathe in. His face nuzzling into my hair when he finally managed to get himself to speak.

"Stay like this..." He said as if he only wanted nothing but to hold me in his broad arms.

My eyes widened as he said this, his nose lightly rubbing against my cheek and the smell of an ocean breeze wafting through the air. It felt like Déjà vu, memories of that night in the forest came flashing back to me like lightning against the earth's surface.

»Flashback«

After a few minutes of what felt like Felix's arms around my waist as he held me closer to his chest in a protective manner, I managed to get my eyelids to lift and I saw that he was hugging me as I smelt what smelt like an ocean breeze... Probably his deodorant. I thought. Look at where your head is, said the sarcastic voice in my head, the room just started to glow with bright green flames and you thinking of deodorant?!.. What is wrong with you?..

I managed to look past Felix as he still hugged me. The flames still surrounded us but as soon as they disappeared Felix then pulled away and I could finally get a good look of what happened.

"Where are we?.." I asked Felix as I looked around to see that we were no longer in the janitor's closet but in what looked like some weird looking forest or woods with odd looking trees.

~End of Flashback~

He was holding me in that very same protective manner, almost as though he were afraid to let me go. His voice breaking me out of my thoughts. He sounded somewhat sleepy yet his voice remained husky. His hand gently caressing the side of my face, his lips so close to my ear.

"I missed you..." He whispered, his voice still sounding sleepy.

Me being me... or the person I am, didn't say anything. In fact I, myself was at a loss for words. This guy just turned from a cat into a human... before my very eyes, might I add. Of course I would not speak... I was in shock... no scratch that, I was in trauma. I was traumatized.

My eyes were deceiving me... I even came to the conclusion that I had been hallucinating the whole thing or that it was just merely a "dream." It was not possible for a "cat" to take the form of a "man," which was Felix in this case. Although his name being the same name as my cat in the very beginning did give it away.

I figured it was merely a "coincidence." I mean, I had my doubts and it did cross my mind once or twice. My cat had similar traits to the boy... the green eyes were the most obvious. However, any sane person... or at least my idea of what "I think a sane person is" would not believe it to be true or even possible. And at that moment I could not come to terms with what I had seen.

Maybe if I pinched myself I would hopefully wake up, I thought.

Unfortunately that was not to be because after closing my eyes and pinching myself, in the hope that it was all a "dream," my hope had sadly disappeared when my eyes fluttered open again to reveal that I was still in the comfort of Felix's arms. To my disbelief and slight discomfort, it was not a "dream" or an "hallucination," it was "REAL" and there was no denying it.

I widened my eyes in shock as I was still held firmly in his grasp. His face still nuzzling in my hair and so close to my ear. After a few minutes of just standing in his hold I eventually found my senses, a shock went through my body, something that seemed so undescribable.

The feeling that shot through me was so hard to explain, it felt almost as though a mixture of emotions had combined with an adrenaline rush of butterflies. Somehow this feeling gave me the strength to push Felix away and finally move myself out of his grip.

My mouth agape as I stared at him when his bright green emerald eyes captured mine. I have to admit that it was quite a struggle to get myself to speak. Not because I was afraid of him... No.

Yes, Felix was a lot taller than me and of course way muscular, he was a guy so obviously he would be. I, on the other hand was average... your average size girl with average grades and an average life, nothing special or too fancy, I was me. And of course you couldn't give two crackers about that but I said it anyway.

The moonlight beamed down, the light causing a slight shadow on Felix's face and the darkness of the room we stood in, causing him to look bigger. He looked rather intimidating and somewhat mysterious as the shadow hid a piece of his face and his eyes glowing bright green in the darkness that consumed the room.

This was it... it was my time to speak, to ask the questions that had been keeping me awake at night. The dangers that I did not know of. The questions that had often shot around in my head.

I'd been losing out on sleep ever since Cara said I was in danger. Strange things had been happening. Things that seemed rather creepy. Odd things would happen at night... I would see things that would disappear, or even objects that would float. I assumed I was going crazy. The feeling of being watched always keeping me captive, my inability to escape.

Felix was still staring at me and I at him, almost as though he had read my mind he spoke. He was the first one to break the pin drop of silence that ate at my very soul. His voice still husky but this time he sounded more awake, he seemed rather alert.

"Alice..." he said, "I am your Guardian."

To be continued...
