Author's Point Of View
Azrail brushes his hands against his jacket while a little smirk of satisfaction makes its way towards his face
Another soul successfully disposed
He brushes back his jet black hair falling on his face and stays there taking in a deep breath and listening to the silent night
Realising the breath he had been holding, he thinks about the question he has thought about many a times
'Where do they all go?'
The mystical works of death was probably the most strangest thing he had ever learned about. All he was to do was open a portal, let the portal suck the soul he had called upon and then forget about it
No one ever told him why did he did that
No one told him about what will happen to the soul
All because of the laws
Laws which state that curiosity is the way to destruction and-
A sob breaks his bitter train of thought and making him look at the crumpled body a few meters away
He starts moving towards her, his arm stretched out as if to comfort her. Azrail pauses looking at his hand in bewilderment. Was he going to comfort her?
Forcing his un-loyal hand to remain by his side he settles for a quiet cough
The girl- Nikki's friend doesn't hear it and continues sobbing and sniffling in her own grief
"Mam are you okay?" He asks politely with a thousand unanswered questions in his eyes
The girl jumps startled and raises her face to meet his inquisitive and slightly amused gaze
She is beautiful
The thought enters Azrails mind as unexpected as Titanic crashing into an iceberg and just as shocking and yet he doesn't contradict it.
With a face as white as the moon, hair as brown as a chocolate and eyes that never seem to decide on one colour and flicking between blue, black and grey with shining stars and light freckles, the girl is no doubt probably one of the most beautiful girls he has ever seen
He gauges the slightly startled, curious, grief filled face with a hint of fear before speaking once again
"Are you alright?" He asks once again in a polite yet firm tone
The girls eyes flashes with burning anger as she gets up from the ground crossing her arms across her chest
"Of course I am not alright. My best friend just disappeared" She says her words low, harsh and defeated
Azrail sighs wondering once again about the ability of mundanes to have stupid and hurtful feelings
With nothing appropriate to say, he gives her nod
The rage in her eyes increases "I said my best friend just disappeared and all you give me is a-a nod?" She says incredulously
Azrail fights back a snort and when the determined snort comes out, he strategically coughs and hence manages to save his dignity
"Nora didn't perish, Miss..?" He trails off uncertainty realising that he forgot her name and the only name that came to him was something called Tessa
A baffled look emerges in the girls eyes
"Castellanos. Anastasia Castellanos" She says introducing herself after a slight hesitation she asks "Um.. Who is Nora?"
Azrail reminisces his words wincing when he realises that he called the dead girl Nora instead of Nicole
"I am sorry Miss Castellanos. I meant Nicole" He says with a carefully kept blank facade
"Nicole? Oh.. Nikki. Wait Nikki didn't perish? What do you mean? I saw her disappear just now" She says firing questions at the speed of bullets at Azrail and making her confusion and curiosity quite clear
Azrail pauses for a second wondering if it was alright to tell her what he wanted to. Weighing the calculated risks he decided to give her vague answers
With a slight hesitation in his tone he says "Your friend Nicole is taking a.. leave from life and will be reborn soon enough"
Anastasia's eyes widen to a level that they put the cup saucers to shame
"What do you mean a leave from life?" She asks her voice a bit shrill
Azrail pauses again looking for the right words "She died which means that her body is now dead but her soul is still.. alive. After some time she will be given a new body to live in and will be given the chance to live again"
The expression on Anastasia's face would be enough for Azrail to crack him up but he hardly notices it as he worries if he has maybe given her too much information
It is necessary. He decides at last. If he is going to convince her to come with him, he had to tell her something about what was ahead
He looks at her only to find her looking at him with a hundred unspoken questions in her multicoloured eyes
"What do you mean by 'reborn soon enough'?" She asks at last
"A hundred years give or take" He answers in a nonchalant voice causing her to look at him sharply with disbelieving eyes
"What?"
