Chapter 1 - Beginning

"Ding! Cleaning System Activated!"

Harry was stunned, the translucent screen was floating eerily above him like a ghost. For a second his words failed him as he got up in a hurry - just seconds ago he was lying down dreaming of bleaching the floors of a tiled kitchen to perfection, his mop gliding across as if dancing on ice, like a professional his movements were meticulous and precise as his feet landed where the mop had not; the window that had appeared from thin air had so abruptly woken him from his dream that he had problems adjusting to the sight in front of him.

"..." He stared blankly at the words, excitement boiling in his eyes as his heart started to beat against his ribcage like an untamed beast. "YESSSS!" He screamed, it had finally happened; how many times had he seen it on TV? A lucky once in a million chance as people all over the globe woke up to systems floating in front of them, from the Cooking System to the Babysitting System he'd been envious of them all but all he could do was continue to do his job and silently resent those lucky enough to have such fortune.

"Hahaha! I'm rich!" A crazy look in his eyes as he continued to scream with excitement, "Keep it down up there!" The sound of a broom hitting the floor of his apartment could be heard yet he ignored it; the feelings he'd kept bottled up inside all this time had finally been released in a frenzy.

Calming himself down he came to one important point... "How do I use it?" From the start of that night to the early hours of the next morning he'd tried everything from "System Start!" to "Praise the system my Lord and Saviour!" Yet even praying like a religious fanatic had caused no change in the systems message.

Those words continued to float through the night even as he slept, in the morning when he woke up his heart grew cold as he glared at them - rather than his way out of his medicore life they'd in an instant become a reminder of a power he had but couldn't use. It was infuriating but he had no choice but to go to work the next morning; he dragged himself to work, his eyes red and drooping from lack of sleep.

...

Clocking in, it was 6am; no one that actually worked in the building that wasn't part of the cleaning staff had yet to show up to work - his job was to clean the building in the early hours, it was a hard job with Harry often having to overexert himself every morning to clean the mess that the office staff had made the night before.

"Harry you're on the fifty-fifth floor today, take the mop I heard they had quite the celebration up there." His boss said to him as he put on his uniform, the dreary rags that could barely be called clothes just adding to his misery from having to work such early hours.

He'd once suggested that instead of working in the morning the cleaning staff should work at night when everyone had left, his boss had insisted that it wasn't possible; the higher ups didn't want any if the 'riff-raff' they allowed to clean their building in after dark, especially with many of their employee's working overtime until 1am.

Yes this was one of the infamous black companies, they'd once only been a term the Japanese had used to describe the 'evil' corporations that oppressed their workers with long hours and less pay, in a way he was lucky to not be any more than cleaning staff or else maybe he'd already have dropped dead by now.

...

"Ding! You've arrived at the fiftieth-floor, please be careful when leaving the elevator." The mechanical voice made Harry jump slightly, the familiar ringing sound had sounded similiar to the system when it had first appeared making him jump a little in his heart, sadly there was nothing he could do about it. He sighed in his heart and began to work in the silence..

There were open beer cans, bottles of vodka and shot glasses strewn around the office; there was even quite a few office workers asleep at their desks so he had to be careful not to disturb them in case he 'impacted' their performance for the day.

...

Two hours later the office was as clean as he could get it, there were a few shot glasses gripped tightly in the hands of the sleeping employees, he could only sigh and hope they didn't complain that they hadn't been taken away. The office was now more presentable than it had been in these two hours the stains, party hats, bottles, paper cups and even clothes had been tidied up and sorted away neatly. 'They must've done something pretty impressive for them to be allowed to have a party of this scale.' He thought in slight awe after thinking about how this company had operated in the three years he'd worked here.

It was now 8am and he knew the staff that had gone home for the night would be coming in to work shortly, it was best if he left before they got here; many considered workers like him an eyesore that had it 'easy' in comparison to their harsh schedules and quotas they were forced to meet.

"Ding! You've arrived at the fiftieth-floor, please be careful when leaving the elevator." A familiar voice echoed from the far side of the office where the elevator was, Harry was currently on the other side moving his cart and the bags of trash on it with him. Helplessly he stared at the opening doors and tried to make himself as small as possible; something which would be an impressive feat with the size of the trash bags he was carrying.

A beautiful woman walked out the still opening doors, an electric fault with the doors no doubt; one the company wouldn't take the time to fix. "Tch, stupid doors." She muttered as she walked out.

He recognised her in an instant, she was the office boss; a ruthless woman who worked less hours than all of the other office staff, he'd heard rumours that she was treated 'specially' because she'd slept with the companies CEO on several occasions and although they were only rumours they had been enough to have her fire twenty people in one day. He shivered at the thought of being caught on her radar, as he was about to make a dash for the now open elevator door in hopes of avoiding her gaze out of the corner of his eye he saw a flicker before a familiar chime was heard..

"Ding! First Mission: Steal the Boss's purse!"

'What?! This can't be considered cleaning? Can it?!' He cried he was dumbfounded by the systems mission, this was something he'd never accomplish even if he had twenty times the guts he had now.

"Ding! Punishment for failure of mission: Bare knuckle boxing against a tiger! Good Luck!"

"..." He almost fainted on the spot, this.. this couldn't be right.. could it?
