Chapter 22 - Chapter Twenty-Two: Memories

"Storm!" A male's voice echoed across the field.

Ignoring him at first, she landed two more punches on the bloodied man below her, before she slowly stood up.  The man, the general, stood before her, anger in his stance.

She stared at him defiantly.

"What is going on here? You have one minute to explain it all, or you'll be sent to the track." The general threatened.

She rolled her eyes and scoffed lightly.

"Wow. The track. How scary." She said sarcasticly. "Your man here wanted to test my limits. Not my fault he couldn't handle it."

Without another word, Camo turned around and began to walk off.

"Don't you dare turn your back on me, Storm! Get your ass back here right now!" The general screamed.

Camo rolled her eyes again, then slowly raised her right hand and flipped the general off, not turning around. After about a minute, she lowered her hand and proceeded to walk away, sticking her hands in her best pockets.

'I'll be skinned alive for that move, but I don't give a damn. That ass hole deserved the beating, and the general deserves to be flipped off if  I'm the one being punished. Not like I acted without a cause.'

The whispers of the soldiers in the half circle were carried to her on the wind, their hushed voices not hushed enough.

"Demon spawn." A voice said.

"Hurricane." Another whispered.

"She-Devil."

The last struck her hard, and she smiled to herself.

'Hell yeah. I'm a She-Devil. Anyone messes with me and I'll fuck them up without another thought. No problem.'

Her smile was still on her face when she walked into the shooting range. Her Supervising Officer was sitting on a barrel, cleaning a gun.

"Storm. You're late." He said, not looking up.

"Busy." She replied, walking over to the gun rack, desiding which gun to choose.

"No excuse to be late. What was so important?" He asked her.

"Just putting one of the general'd Mutts in his place." She stated, taking a  .22 caliber pistol off the rack.

"That's what all the yelling is about?" He inquired.

"Yeah. General is pissed." She said, walking in front of a target.

"Because you beat one of the Mutts up?" He asked.

"No. Cause I flipped him off." She stated, getting in shooting position and taking aim.

"The Mutt?" He asked as he got off the barrel and walked up to her.

"No. The general." Camo said simply, then shot off a full round at the target.

"Your either stupid or gutsy." He said after the gun shots stopped.

"Or a bad ass She-Devil." She smirked.

"Who said that?"

"The other Mutts who watched me bloody their teammate." She said. "Beware, Jason Hark. I am the She-Devil." Camo said, smiling, satisfied, as she turned towards her Supervisor.

"Oh? And why should I be afraid of a little girl who can't even hit half her shots?" Jason asked, taking her by the shoulders and turning her around so she faced the targets again, positioning her to shoot. "Get better and there may be something to fear, Sweetheart."

Camo smiled, taking aim and shooting the gun, this time focusing on where she was aiming, rather than just shooting for the hell of it.

Jason handed her a new cartridge of bullets and she loaded the gun, smiling at the ground. Jason chuckled.

"Again." He said.

She shot off the round, mostly hitting the target.

"Again." Jason said, and he continued relentlessly.

Camo's eyes opened to the bright sun above her. Sitting up, dust fell from her clothes. She was disoriented before she pieced together that she must have fallen asleep and dreamt about the past. About one of the first times she was ever called a She-Devil. And the first time she realised she may have been crushing on her Supervising Officer, Jason.

Sighing, Camo stood up.

"Ah, damn it. I guess it's time to return and face those idiots." She said to the surrounding wilderness.

Sticking her hands in her pockets, she began to walk the way she had come, letting her mind wander to a place she hadn't been in a while. Her memories of her and Jason. The only person who had truly understood and accepted her for who she was, temper and all.
