Chapter 1 - Ch. 1

As I'm staring out of the classroom window, I can't help but helplessly love the rain. More than summer, actually. It makes me feel like I'm safe in a way that frees me from any pain. For the past couple of weeks, it's been raining more than how much our city usually gets. There's been news lately that all of this is caused by an upcoming storm up ahead north. But we're usually prepared for anything like it.

The classroom seems to be quiet, more quiet than I'm used to but I mean this in a good way. You could feel the drops tapping ever so lightly on the glass, you could see some of the people chatting downstairs beside the open garden. Some people are reading, eating, laughing. It's nice to appreciate for once. But I only learned that recently.

There were so many things about being able to grow with a wealthy family circle. It wasn't really about the wealth that gave our money value, it was the purpose. But the fact that I consider myself a spoiled kid made me think otherwise. I kept a materialistic point of perception in different aspects of how I lived. The more you want, the more you get, the more you're happy.

Then I'd run to dad to reason for money and my mom would try to convince him to not let money rot my brain. I have a lot of regrets now that I'm thinking about that because even though I had everything I wanted, I wish that I didn't spend so much back then. I wish I could've been better back then.

"Lin!" A boy's voice loudly strikes the room, overpowering the rest.

Suddenly the chatting stops. Rain can only be heard, faintly. It woke up me up from my trance and suddenly everyone was noisy, I didn't realize that so many people have come already.

"What?" I reply to him. Well speaking of him, he's actually my best friend. His name is Will. We've been friends since the day we were born.

"Is it just me or is it a little awkward?" He added with a small nervous chuckle.

"Don't overreact. It's not like you just shouted my name in front of people who were minding their own business." I reply with a sarcastic tone.

"You're not helping." Will replied back laughing, he then sat down beside my seat.

"I caught how you looked earlier. What were you thinking about?" Will spoke as he plummeted his bag on the floor.

"Don't you think time's a little too fast?" I said. I could hear his breath deepen, his chair squeak and suddenly he's closer to me.

"A little too fast?" He asks.

"We're in junior year!" "You said the same thing three months ago!" His broad voice laughed and giggled.

"I'm going to keep saying it when I feel like it!" I smile and he laughs and gets up to his seat. "We're in junior year!" Everyone looks at his funny stance in front of me.

"Yeah, time does feel fast, but we've got so much of it in front of us." He munches on his bread, his legs are spread out as he leans on a chair he took from someone.

The bell rings loudly, i see birds outside flying away.

"Looks like we don't have any now." I speak as a joke and after a small silence, he looks at me and laughs.
