Chapter 2 - Chapter 1 - The Beacon

***Unknown P. O. V. ***

I can feel the freezing wind caressing my skin, numbing my sense of touch, and blowing my hair everywhere. If someone could see me now they would think that I'm suicidal. After all I'm standing on top of a five meter tall chain link wire mesh fence bordering the cliff on the peak of a mountain.

Anyone would have been stricken with terror by just looking down below, at the darkness without a single hint of the ground, certain they would never survive the fall.

Fortunately I'm not here to take my life but to admire the dazzling light, created by the different assortment of building and all kinds of vehicles, within the nearby city.

While gazing at this mesmerizing spectacle nostalgia suddenly flashed through me without warning, that vanished within the same moment as if it was nothing but a dream.

I raised my head to gaze at the night sky in an attempt to clear any unnecessary thoughts.

[ What a beautiful sight. ] I thought while gazing at the twinkling stars dotting the darkness encircling the crescent moon, as if to tell it that it wasn't alone.

"Hmmmn..." I unconsciously uttered when a shooting star entered peripheral sight. It blaze through the night sky towards the east, as if a beacon calling the way to my home.

[ First the nostalgia and now this, I guess it's finally time for me to come back. ] I decided after a short deliberation.

I picked up my phone and dialed my secretary's number.

📞 Ring...Ring...Ring... 📞

📞 Good evening my lady. How may I help you my lady? 📞

📞 Prepare the plane and all the necessary papers. I'm returning home. 📞

📞 As you wish my lady. 📞

I admired the starry sky for a few more moments before turning around and jumping forward. While airborne I turn my body into a ball to flawlessly execute a forward flip, before finally landing down on the ground as light as a feather.

I walked towards my car, a white 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, parked at sidewalk.

During the drive downhill I can't help but liken the blurring images of the trees, I passed through, to the passing of time. Without knowing it, years had already pass in just a blink of an eye.

[ I wonder how they have been doing all these years. Hopefully they are living their life in contentment even though I'm not with them. I wonder do they resent me for cutting all kinds of communication for the pass years. Not even a message to assure them that I'm still alive. ]

Due to this stray thoughts running through my head, I didn't notice my arrival the airport. Before getting off I closed my eyes took a deep breath to settles my mind.

A man in black suit is waiting me when I arrive at the entrance.

"Miss Snow, this way please." the man said while guiding me inside. " Everything has been prepared as per your orders. The flight would take off within half an hour. " he continued as we were boarding the plane.

In the seat beside the window, while looking outside, I can't help but let my thoughts run wild again. Thoughts about my family and about school.

Speaking of school I just suddenly remembered the invitation that was given to me a while back. Black Woods University. A prestigious school well known all around the world.

Unlike other schools they don't accept enrollees, they invite them. No one know criteria one needed to fulfill to get an invitation. According to speculations intelligence is a must have, but aside from that nothing is really known.

[Black Woods... I hove it alleviates the boredom the have persisted for almost my entire life. ] this the last thought I had before closing my eyes and succumbing to sleep.
