Chapter 3 - Checkpoint

An hour had gone by as they were surfing between houses and buildings. It seems Quin didn't find anymore reason to talk to the girl. And it seemed the girl got the idea that he wasn't what he claimed to be. Though if he were an assassin or something of the sort, she would already be in danger. Now, just what was this man? A spy? She wasn't going to use her signature spell to get an answer out of him. Not that she noticed she had used magic, except for when her MP went down by ten points.

They had come near the end of the residential district and were entering the noble district. When they were stopped at the checkpoint, the Guards gave her a glance. "Hmph, shameless kid."

The only reason they didn't really react correctly to her, was because they had never seen the Princess before. Unlike the resident before who could barely speak after seeing her.

Bria's eyes narrowed on the Guard as he went to check the bales of hay. She had that indifferent expression on her face again. Hopping off the side of the bales of hay, she would land on her bare feet. Immediately pain shot up from under her feet and up her legs.

She had landed incorrectly on the cobble stone grounds. Though right past the checkpoint there was tilted roads which were extremely smooth. It was as if someone went along and cleaned them everyday too.

Placing a hand on the side of her head as more memories came rushing in due to the scenery, she nodded to herself. They really did hire commoners and the like to clean the streets of the noble district and sand the tiles. "Hm…" She looked over at the guard who was looking down at her.

"Miss, you can't enter the nobility dis–" He was cut off as the girl raised her arm. Her hairless armpit revealed a single birthmark which was found on every single royal family member. This birthmark looked like four black squares evenly spaced from one another in a diamond formation.

The guard immediately dropped to one knee in allegiance to the Royal. "My… Your Highness! I didn't know!" Just then the other guard came around the corner and blinked a few times.

"Forgive me, your highness!" The other guard immediately presumed the same posture, kneeling in allegiance to the Royal.

"Considering they shaved my head, I don't blame you for not knowing who I am!" She shouted back, her legs spread slightly and her hands at her hips. These men were about a whole twelve inches taller than her. Yet her tone was that of a much bigger person.

"They… Your highness?" the two guards looked at the farmer, who was now sweating beads of sweat rapidly. They seemed to glare at him for a few moments before turning their attention back towards the Princess, not wanting to make a mistake in verbal accusation.

Accusing an innocent man without proof was punishable by death.

"This Farmer, Quin of Quinville, saved my life." She could definitely read the body language of the two men. Though they hardly believed that this Farmer was skilled enough to fight someone, despite his muscular body-type and callused hands.

"I was kidnapped and beaten by a man," she huffed aloud. Then went on to describe the beastly creature of a human being who had kidnapped her and abused her. Even gave the address to the building which she had been held in.

To their surprise they already knew of the location. This was a place where young girls would be found soiled and quiet mangled. To see that the Princess had survived this was outstanding. Though apparently the constable has been telling the guards to not bother to look into the place. It was fishy. Was the constable being paid off, or was there more to this?

"You may rise Guardsmen," the Princess commanded with her arms now crossed over her chest; still maintaining her dominant posture.

"Your Highness, if I may… Riding on these bales of hay will most definitely make your appearance obscure to those whom see you. They might even mock the Royal house for not being lady-like." He said with the utmost confidence, knowing very well how the social hierarchy around him works. He had seen it many times, noble women being mocked by other families.

Taking in a deep breath, she would exhale with an annoyed expression on her face.

"…" Bria would be trying so hard not to laugh at this new quest. Seriously? The Princess was telling her to get a piggy back from the Guard? Well, there was no harm in trying.

"In that case, are you willing to give me a piggy back ride to the Royal Palace?" the girl asked with a serious tone and a straight face. She even made a slight spoiled hand gesture and lulled her head to the side as she looked up at the man whom was now standing before her.

"Your Highness, please reconsider." The Guard's face had turned an irritated blue, as if he was rather disturbed by the question. Not only would he have problems with this, but so would the rest of the royal house.

"Gimme a piggy back ride to the Royal Palace!" The Princess sounded as if she was about to pull a tantrum as her mouth glowed slightly. However, the Guard still didn't acknowledge this. Pursing her lips as he simply stared down at her.

Bria simply stared forward with a now indifferent face on once again before looking over towards the farmer, who simply shrugged. "Fine! I'll just ride on the cart like a normal person!" Though she was faking it, she clearly sounded upset about not getting a ride on the man's back to the capital.

Walking over and pulling herself up onto the seat beside the so called farmer, she made a horse like noise as she blew air out of her mouth, her lips reverberating.

"And off you go," one of the guards said and knocked on the cart before resuming their positions at the checkpoint. They seemed to be looking at each other though, rather confused at the Princesses strange behavior, even though that was also rather normal for her.

Princess Bria before this whole transmigration, reincarnation, was known to be an eccentric at best. It wasn't odd that she had been kidnapped.

The only thing that made the current Bria rather confused was the fact that no one seemed to know what the Princess looked like. Let alone, it didn't seem as if anyone was going out of their way to look for her. Additionally, she saw no posters plastered anywhere with her face on it.

Could it be that the Royal house was keeping all this under wraps in order to avoid panic? Or was her kidnapping arranged? The memories she currently had, seemed to have a blank spot. It seemed she didn't remember how she had gotten captured.

Farmer Quin glanced over at the girl has he kept the reigns in check. "So, you really are the Princess… No doubt about that," He said as he looked at her armpit which was now blocked by her arm. "If you're wondering why no one is looking for you, it's because they are currently fighting over the throne. Your brothers are anyways… According to the village bulletin."

So that's what it was? Maybe she got mixed up in that and for some reason her brothers got rid of her? From what she could gather from her memory, she had three brothers. Two older ones, and one younger. The two older ones were both schemers, though one of them was soft hearted while the other had sinister dealings with the Kingdom's underworld.

The thought came to her. Maybe it was the eldest one? That could be how she ended up being kidnapped and killed earlier. Puckering her lips in thought, she would stare at the castle that was about another hour away. It was massive in size and towered over the noble district from on top of a massive rocky hill.

"So what are you really?" She asked curiously as she glanced over towards the man beside her, a brow arched slightly. "Assassin? Black Marketeer? Thief? Er… Legendary Blacksmith?"

Quin simply looked over at her with an unsatisfied expression. Why was she involving three different low-moral occupations and only one good one? "I'm actually a Mercenary, I was supposed to report to your father, our Emperor, in secret. However it seems that my mission is a success; even turns out that you were being held within the Capital."

Bria just stared at him for a few moments, she wasn't buying it, but simply nodded her head anyways to seem like she acknowledged his claim. "Bounty hunter sounds like a better match for this supposed mission," she said aloud and stared forward.

Quin made a disgruntled expression before shaking his head and speeding along the tiled roads of the noble district.
