It was information about me. At first it was ordinary like general information but as I read through it, it started getting confusing. "What is this? I don't get this, I mean…this can't be right. I'm not adopted…" but as I pieced together everything in the file about me and everything that's happened to my life…it made sense somehow. I looked towards the others confusion evident from their faces and Ley's face said it all, the color was drained out of her face.
"Some of the information there may come out as shocking but--"
"But what?!" I exclaimed cutting of Charles before he could finish with his sad excuse for comfort "This just told me I was adopted, I think shocked is a bit of an understatement, yeah?" I said standing up.
"My point exactly. When are you ever going to let me finish?" he asked with a straight face. "You may think that you're all alone and everything is confusing but that's why we're here. You can count on us to get through this and you have each other to understand." he walked towards me and lowered his head to my ear "Let's talk." then he walked out of the room, obviously expecting me to follow, which I did.
I gently tapped Ley's shoulder, her face pale. She slowly turned her face towards me "Let's talk when I get back okay? We're in this together." and gave her a soft smile. She nodded, her face blank of any emotion, I hate to leave her but that ass must have something important to say.
I stood up and walked towards Charles waiting by the door, "Follow me." and we walked passed several rooms or labs, whatever they call it, until he stopped in the middle of an empty hallway and faced me. His expression hardened.
"Look, it's already hard as it is for me trying to figure the bloody hell out how to handle those people in there who's going through the same thing as you, what with your sudden outbursts and ridiculous non-stop ramblings making things worse." I can see that it's taking him his all to control himself. He brushed his fingers through his hair, frustration being more and more evident in his actions.
"I know you're incredibly confused and just want your questions answered but this is new for us too and I can't exactly promise you that I'll be able to answer all your inquiry's but I'll try my best, so try yours at the very least to lessen the mental and emotional weight everyone in that room is already feeling." with that he walked past me back towards the room.
I stood there feeling bad. He's right maybe I am being too emotional, but what does he expect from me? Just because I handled it well the first few hours doesn't mean I'm more mentally and emotionally prepared than everyone else in that room. I ran my hands on my face. What he said made me feel like a burden but why is it only me? Is it so wrong for me to voice out what I want to say?
My eyes are beginning to water, I want to cry and sob like a child but I can't because I have to be strong for Ley and everyone in that room who is going through the same feelings as I do. I took a few deep breaths and made my way back to the room.
When I got there I could not make out the display that is being played out in front of me. Everything is in chaos, everyone shouting at each other, things being thrown and shouts trying to stand out.
I approached Lillian who is shouting at Charles who's trying his best to handle things calmly. I grabbed her shoulders and made her face me "Ley, hey look at me." I held her shoulders firmly despite her protests, she was crying "Look at me, we are in this together alright? I'm here for you and we will get through this. So please stop crying, for me? Because you kind of want to make me cry too." I said trying to coax her and calm her down, my own tears and threatening to fall from my eyes.
She stopped struggling and broke down crying. She pulled me into a hug and cried on my shoulders, sobbing and holding on to me like her life depended on it. "Please tell me it isn't true Liz, tell me it isn't true." she repeatedly said. I want to tell her otherwise, I want to say we're just in some bizarre reality T.V show but I can't.
"Shh, it's okay. I'm sorry Ley." it was all I could do, apologize for everything being real and true. I looked around and everybody were just staring at us. The blond Angela and the red head Thea looked like close friends and they were holding each other like Ley and I. Angela held on to Thea and was stroking her hair, whispering comforting words that only they understood. The guy with the shaggy-hair just stood there with his head down, fists clenched at his sides.
I heard Charles sigh heavily, I looked at him and he looked exhausted "Alright, I think that's enough for today. We'll just continue this tomorrow since I know a lot of you are tired. Alexander and Nicole will be taking you to where you will be staying at from the mean time so get some rest." Ley let go of me and wiped the tears from her face. I gave her a comforting smile which she returned half-hearted.
We walked out silently following Alexander and Nicole, I picked up my heavy duffel bag from the floor and held Ley's hand out of the room. Only Charles and Lennox remained at the office, I saw Charles give Lennox the leather envelope bag before walking out completely. We saw once more the entirety of the whole facility, it was still amazing. It probably took years to carve out the inside of the mountain. We got inside an elevator, I saw Alexander press the button with a G5. Once we got out, we saw a view of the outside. We were surrounded with glass windows encircling the whole floor, I've lost track of time so I didn't realize it was already night time.
Nicole handed us key-cards with a certain number "The numbers on those cards indicate the room you would be staying at. Alex will be at room 203 and I'll be at room 205 if any of you need anything and don't worry, we're the only ones occupying the whole floor. Have a good nights rest, you'll need it. " and with that they left us standing there awkwardly.
"Uhh, hey we didn't get to properly introduce ourselves earlier because of certain circumstances. I'm Thea Graham and this is my best friend Angela Price." it was the red head who spoke first.
"I'm Elizabeth Winslow and this is Lillian Grant, my best friend. It's a pleasure to meet you, even under the circumstance." we shook hands and Ley just waved slightly at them, "I still don't know what to make up of this situation but I hope we can get to know each other better for the duration we have with each other's company." we smiled at one another but Angela doesn't seem all too eager, she just gave a slight nod.
"I'm Ethan Cross, and I'm not too keen on the idea of being the only guy here but can't exactly be picky. Nice to meet you." he offered his hand awkwardly and we shook it. "So, just to get some stuff out of the way…were any of you kidnapped too?" oh, that's how it went.
