Chapter 45 - Orthrus

"Orthrus"

Level 45

HP: ?/?

Attribute: Darkness, Flames

Its HP is no longer visible. From what I can remember, Orthrus' HP is around 7,000,000 in Abyss Mode. 5 million and above HP appears on question marks rather than actual numbers so that first time players who are not familiar with the enormous amount of HP a boss has will tremble seeing question marks. If I was similar to the person I was when the game started in my timeline, seeing this is no longer something I can endure immediately. Luckily, my exposure on them is quite early so I am not afraid.

Same strategy still works here but now, you need to be much faster as Orthrus can now use his twin head to chomp off anyone who tries to attack its belly. I did not enter its aggro range at first and nocked an arrow first using the Versatile Weapon and quickly provoke it. For players who found this strategy troublesome, in actuality, you don't need to beat up Orthrus to kill him. This dungeon is a big formation and in Abyss Mode, you can seal Orthrus immediately without fighting much against the boss. Destroying the 7 pillars around then boss room is enough to kill this boss. You just need to lure him to the center before breaking the balance of every pillar to strike one million damage to the Twin Headed beast. You only need to avoid his swift attack since Orthrus prevents you from destroying a single Pillar that will kill the big guy.

Nocking an arrow towards the Orthrus outside the agrro range allows you to provoke it to activate Berserking Beast which is a skill it possess. Berserking Beast will be triggered if Orthrus was provoked outside his Aggro Range which makes this beast to get angry and will no longer think rationally. Developers knew how hard it was to beat an Abyss mode dungeon but to allow players who are craving for speed runs, they made an easy way to beat Orthrus by adding those pillars. For those players who keep on looking for slight differences will immediately spot the difference of the Abyss Boss room of Orthrus and the Normal Mode Boss room.

The arrow that I released was flicked away by Orthrus' tail. From the looks of it, Orthrus is harder to provoke than Cerberus and was trickier to handle.

I shook my head. Its already normal to deflect the normal attack of the bow by the boss but it will be a wonder if this attack still got deflected.

"Heart Piercing Arrow!"

This skill is actually pretty amazing and will be one of the key skills of Hunters when they class up as this skill is a priority for its class up called Sniper. Heart Piercing Arrow's skill upgrades are considered really dangerous and for people who have no idea how dangerous it was, it was like this.

Heart Piercing Arrow can induce immediate Bleeding debuff and depending on how deep the arrow got buried, the longer the debuffs to last. Just from its name, its a homing missile that attacks the heart of a boss or a monster which causes strong damage and bleeding effect.

"Roar!"

This time, it was not able to deflect the arrow. It went past through the defenses of Orthrus and pierced its thick hide straight. But I can see that it did not pierce too deep from my expectation.

-1,000! Bleeding inflicted!"

Orthrus looks furious and stands up from where it once was and growl loudly looking at me. I look at the log and sure enough, I see its reaction.

"Orthrus got Provoked."

Seeing it provoke, I quickly changed my weapon into a hammer and quickly use Silent Sprint towards a pillar. Orthrus leap and stands in the center of the room before growling. I quickly made my decision and swing my hammer to the pillar.

"Bang!"

Cracks appear on the pillar. Before the boss can jump away, I throw a Petrify Splash on Orthrus, temporarily restraining its movements. Orthrus tried to move but to no avail. Petrify Splash is like a cement adhesive on its paws, stopping its movements.

Boom!

The pillar descended and a huge -1,000,000 damage appeared above its head. When the pillar descended, the Petrify Splash effect was also cancelled, allowing Orthrus to move again. This time, I was on Orthrus Agrro range and seeing me, Orthrus leap next to me and swiped its paws on me dealing a 5,000 damage on me. The strike was heavy and I almost got knocked down but luckily I didn't falter and quickly changed my weapon into a Spear and Shield which is a Paladin's weapon choice and activated the skill, Shield of Thorns.

Shield of Thorns allows the player to block attacks of an enemy and instead damages them in result of their attacks. The second Swipe of Orthrus instead damages him instead. I quickly changed my weapon into a Hammer and slams it in quick succession on Orthrus' head.

Boom!

Shockwaves emit out on its head after the slam. This caused him to get Dazed. I grabbed the chance and used another Petrify Splash and throws it to the dazed Orthrus before rushing towards the second pillar. I swing the hammer again and like one of the demolition team, I destroyed another pillar.

"Crack!"

The pillar fell causing the boss to roar in pain. Another 1 million HP was gone and I quickly managed to chip off more than 2,000,000 damage against this boss. As usual, the boss recovered from the Petrify Splash and also returned back from the Daze debuff.

Roar!

The boss was furious on how its mighty HP got destroyed easily. It quickly charge towards me and its two head opens, ready to chomp me away. I quickly rolled away and changed my weapon into a gun and throws a repeated gunshots from the double pistol.

Running around to lure it into the center is the best way to deal it damage. When the Orthrus once again steps into the Center of the boss room, I quickly made a decision and cast a skill.

"Freezing Prison!"

It momentarily froze the two headed beast but since its has an attribute of flame, I quickly produced another Petrify Splash and throws it away to Orthrus, petrifying it before rushing to the third pillar. Orthrus helplessly burn the ice on the freezing prison by throwing flames from its mouth but still infused in the ground due to the Petrify Splash.

Again, like a raging demolition worker, I slam my hammer once again on the third pillar and it collapses again straight to the Boss.

-1,000,000!

It quickly reduce the HP of Orthrus and as usual, he roared and charged straight at me. Since the Shield of Thorns were now back and ready to use, I quickly cast it again, blocking its attack causing Orthrus to hurt itself again.

I sprinted towards the center and changed my weapon into a hook and throws it to the boss and pulling Orthrus back to the center and inflicting Knock Down Debuff. I throw another petrify Splash into the boss again and Orthrus has no way of breaking out of it. I quickly rush towards the fourth pillar and smash it again to the boss.

Bang!

If any player saw me doing a damage on Orthrus like a madman, they might be scared to wits. This is an Abyss Mode, and anyone who knows its might are going to tremble on the sight of the first boss and just like that, I chipped off almost half of its HP?

With my attacks accompanied with the Pillar Breaking, Orthrus has only less than 2,000,000 HP. The damages on the body of Orthrus is also getting visible and I promise that I see a huge panda eyes on one of its head and the other one seems to be missing a tooth as I saw it a bit lacking from what I saw earlier. There are also bruises and blood on its body. I can also see that it is limping.

My eyes glint as I saw a chance. Before the Orthrus can react, I throw another Petrify Splash on its location. The Orthrus is too tired to deflect it and once again, got trapped on Petrification. I quickly made my way to the Pillar and once again, destroy the pillar, causing another 1,000,000 damage to the boss. I quickly rush to the last pillar. Seeing the Orthrus still limping and unable to escape, I smashed the last pillar.

BANG!

Orthrus yelled it last roar before it fell down on the ground dead. I smirked as I wiped off the dust in my clothes. First boss, done. Two more to go.
