Chapter 53 - Chapter 53

Irvene's point of view

*Present*

I sat firmly on the chair and prevented myself from turning this place into ice. No matter what happened, I'll leave this place with a good result.

"Pardon, Archmage Elvina, aren't you taking this work seriously and underestimating us? I'm in charge of the Spirit Mining Company. It's my responsibility to study that mining area," Headmaster Estrama said.

"Headmaster," I said.

I looked at them and raised two fingers with a small envelope in it. The Ruler's seal faintly glowed.

"The Ruler's words are absolute and what does an Archmage do? It's also part of my responsibility to make sure that no dark magic could harm our country," I continued.

They looked at each other until Headmaster Estrama took the envelope from me. He gripped it hard while reading.

"It's settled then, but the Ruler only have given you a week after you finished your work. It's to be expected since the Ruler didn't inform me," Headmaster Estrama said.

"You still have many work to do according to what I've heard. Well, we can stop eating and let you go home?" Headmaster Salford said.

All of us nodded. I have to finish the magic barrier poles quickly. It was good that I have Elis sent Brother Mavien a message and give me a letter proving that I could further study that mining area.

We went out of this dining area and they quickly led us to the front gate. Headmaster Salford prepared two horse carriages. One for Headmaster Estrama with his assistant and another one for Meryll and I. His assistant just showed up after we went of the dining area and quickly held the headmaster's things.

It's a good thing that Headmaster Salford prepared two horse carriages. I didn't mind taking one with Headmaster Estrama but this girl beside me would not.

"Very good, I don't want to see his presence for a long period of time in such a small space," Meryll said.

I sighed. She's back with her talkative attitude after just listening with our discussions with the headmasters.

We got inside the horse carriage. I saw Headmaster Salford stood at the front gate with Miss Sedina until I closed the door of the horse carriage. This horse carriage didn't have any windows at both sides except a small window in front only.

This kind of design was often used during cold weather. Although I didn't feel that the weather wasn't that cold or it might be that Headmaster Salford just casually chose one of his horse carriages since he only sees me as a regular visitor in his place.

Nonetheless, it was easier to travel with a horse carriage than use magic and run from here to the Spirit Mining Company.

"We can finally rest although I think that we will encounter a fight against them since your mood was so scary earlier," Meryll uttered.

She's right. It was good that I have Brother Mavien's envelope ready.

I think that I have asked help for my brother again to get out of trouble. I sighed deeply upon thinking of that.

We were busy talking to each other when the horse carriage stopped quickly. We almost bumped into the metal wall of this horse carriage. Horse carriages ran swiftly with magic so when it stopped quickly, the result would be bad just like this.

"Hey, won't you ride safely?! Why did you stop?" Meryll shouted.

But he didn't answer her question. We immediately went outside the horse carriage. A man not far from us stood with his huge sword pointed on us. His presence was releasing a dark aura familiar from the one I saw from the Spirit Mining Company while the man riding the horse carriage disappeared.

Only the man in front of us appeared but I could feel that he's not alone. The horse carriage stopped in an empty circled ground inside a forest. This forest was not familiar to us. The man riding this horse carriage has brought us to a different way!

"You want to fight? We'll defeat you!" Meryll shouted.

Meryll summoned her two black daggers and I also summoned my staff. She dashed towards the enemy while I chanted ice spikes upon their way. It followed with ice blades.

The man's huge sword clashed upon Meryll's daggers and was able to dodge most of her attacks despite him being a warrior. He's keeping up with Meryll's speed.

I ran towards them and made Ice rain. The sharp blades and icicles combined came down quickly and it slowed down his speed.

However, he swung his sword and huge flames encircled his sword. Because of that, he melted some of the raining ice blades and icicles but it managed to suppress his overwhelming strength towards Meryll.

Meryll then disappeared in front of him. I took this chance to chant another wave of ice blades and distract him. He accurately breaks it with his sword but Meryll came down attacking him from behind.

A warrior's body cannot be penetrated because of strong armor but Meryll's daggers were different. It made inside his armor but that was it.

Meryll was slightly startled that made them man escaped from her surprise attack.

This man, he was surely releasing powers with dark aura but he seemed not controlled by it and even use its powers with great control.

I felt even more angry than before. How much have they gone with this experiment?!

I used more than half of my magic and chanted a spell.

"Silver chains of despair turned into golden chains, I hereby command you to bind this man and feel my wrath!" I shouted.

This circled ground enlightened. The golden chains and the men hiding within the forest both appeared at the same time.

But no one can stop my spell!

The golden chains swiftly enveloped the warrior and it sipped its powers. I could feel it being transferred to me.

"So this is the great powers of my strongest binding spell for now," I uttered.

There were ten men with daggers that appeared at us and I still felt that there's more of them hiding. The rest should be archers, the long-ranged ones.

Meryll and I continued to fight together and combined attacks. With that, we suppressed the assassins. Moreover, Meryll was an assassin too so she was familiar with every moves they used.

With the powers transferred to me, I straightened my hands and pointed at one direction I released two ice blades swiftly than ever before. I heard someone fell at the tree.

"What an accurate attack, you should be an archer!" Meryll shouted.

"Focus!" I said.

I could feel her excitement from this fight.

I pointed at other directions and attacked the four other archers with the same style. It managed to strike two archers but the other two didn't seem to budge.

"Meryll, two more archers!" I said.

"Alright, let's switch," Meryll said.

In a second we switched positions and I took care of the remaining assassins. Half of them were already unconscious on the ground.

I chanted icicles and ice blades. It's more than the usual number I chanted since the warrior's powers have been transferred into myself but it wasn't enough to bring down these sneaky assassins.

"Living monster fire, as fiery as its name, I summon thee!" I chanted.

Fire started to surround us and Elis appeared.

"Bring them down," I said.

"Yes, master!" Elis said.

The assassins felt danger and they retreated for a while but Elis chased them down one by one.

"Your surprise attacks won't work for me!" Elis said.

Everyone, here goes his arrogance.

"Finish!"

Both Meryll and Elis said at the same time and stood in front of me.

"Great!"

A man shouted and clapped.

"Who's there?!" I said.

It seemed that everything's yet to end.
