Irvene's point of view
The crowd went silent for a while. This announcement indeed surprised the students, and even me. It didn't take long before the Magic Arena is filled with everyone's noise.
Then, some instructors appeared at the center of the Magic Arena. This arena is in a circled position which the students are seated at the side, and there's a huge battle field at the center. It's size were several times larger than the field we usually use for battle classes. All of us are separated by levels and our own respective sections.
"The Magic Battle Competition would be held in one week just like we do every year, and the first day of the competition is our opening ceremony and elimination rounds for every section of each level. Another thing, Soul'e Magic High often has a battle between the same levels only, but a particular magic game at the sixth day, it would allow different levels to fight!" Mr. Salvie said. He's one of our instructors.
A spell might be chanted around this arena to be able to hear their words in such a vast area.
"Would that make for the senior students to have advantage of that game?" Sid asked.
I also heard the whispers of the surrounding students about what our instructors said. Although, I didn't know how would I answer him, because I have the same question at myself. Even Meryll and Vaughn were quiet and both in deep thoughts.
"Regarding that game, we would announce more information about that at the fifth day of the competition. As for today, you should focus on the first elimination rounds which is called the Highest Monsters Killed. The first to perform would be the first levels, and to be followed by the next levels. The students that would pass would directly join the second round, do your best students!" he continued.
After that, all the students suddenly stood up which the four of us followed. I should have read some book if there is one about this Magic Battle Competition. All of them seems to know well about this event, and is their most anticipated moment of their lives as proud students of Soul'e Magic High. We started to sing a hymn. It is the school's hymn which is taught among us in one of the afternoon classes.
Some instructors lit up a fire among the torches around the arena using their magic. When the hymn was finished, a group of people that are lined up into two, appeared at the entrance of the Magic Arena with an instructor in front of them. They are wearing a uniform similar to the students yet their coats are black instead of red.
It just heightened my curiosity about this competition. They sat behind the instructors seats. Aside from the instructors, the Student Council and Student Disciplinary Committee are the only ones that have separate seats apart from the students. After seeing them, I can't help to think that they might be people with some high position from the school.
"I wonder who those persons are," Meryll said.
"How about we'll ask our classmates? Maybe they knew them," Sid suggested.
"You are right. We are new students here, so it is normal if we ask for information about it," Vaughn said.
"That's a good idea, Sid. Finally, you have done something good aside from eating," Meryll followed.
"What? You're only envious because you didn't come up with that good idea of mine," Sid said.
I shook my head in disbelief. They're starting up a childish fight again. When will they stop that senseless habit? I intended to stop Sid and Meryll when someone from our back called our attention with her disdainful gaze.
"Since you're all students of Soul'e Magic High, you should know that those persons with the same uniform to us except the coat are the seventh level students! A level which only the best ones could step up to!" Lianna said.
Unexpectedly, her seat are just behind us although, I think that she still bear hatred among the four of us.
Wait, they're the mysterious seventh level students that we haven't taken a glance since we became a student at this school!
"Oh, really? I think they're not that good," Meryll said.
"Hmp. Displaying such an arrogant attitude, let's see if you can even win a match to a fifth or sixth level student before bragging about your abilities. Also, seventh level students aren't like that for nothing," she said. Her attention turned towards the instructors at the center after that.
I prevented Meryll from picking up a fight to Lianna. It's good that she's just beside me. The opening ceremony finished shortly, and two instructors are left at the center of the arena.
One of them is Ms. Lynnwick while I don't know the other one. Although, based on he's clothing, he's also a mage like Ms. Lynnwick.
They both raised their hands and their mouths opened, seems like chanting a spell. It lasted for more than a minute. Afterward, the center of the arena are surrounded with small plants and a few puddles.
We once heard their voices again. "This would become the setting for the first elimination rounds for each level, and four different monsters would appear once it started. The monsters have points of 10, 20, 30, and 40. The weakest type would be 10 while the strongest is 40. Each round would only last for thirty minutes, so do your best to become the first 70 to advance to the next round!"
"We will give each levels to prepare for half an hour, before the battle starts. Prepare well for this battle, and remember that every level have a number of 150 students which means that only half would advance to the second elimination round," he continued.
Afterward, someinstructors lead the first level students to the waiting area of the arena. Its purpose is for students that would be next in battle to prepare at that place, while waiting to be called at the center of the arena.
Half an hour passed already and the first level students walked through the center of the arena. Magic Arena is so vast that a crowd of 150 students isn't enough to fill even a half of the arena.
"The long wait is over! The first elimination rounds, the Highest Monster Killed for first level students will start!"
