Chapter 3 - Heredis

Before Levi's father left the family, they were rich. Levi was eight at the time, and much more mature then anyone asked him to be. While studying trigonometry in the garden, he heard someone playing the piano.

He looked up.

"Rachmaninoff," He said under his breath, "But it's not perfect. They just missed a note, and that one wasn't necessary."

He headed toward the imperfect piano player and wondered exactly who could be trying so hard to perfect the piece.

Finally out of the garden, he saw a magnificent stone gate, and just beyond, was a young boy his age, playing the piano. But... he was crying?

When the piece ended, he started it again, and again, and again. He also wouldn't cease his crying. Silently, his tears fell, and as the chilly night descended, his yellow hair flowed in the wind.

"His hair is lighter than mine." He remarked.

Suddenly, he stopped playing, and looked at Levi, angrily. His eyes were a shade brighter than his, a blinding yellow, the color of sunshine.

"Y-you!" He said, barely able to contain his anger, "Who-?"

"I'm your neighbor," He interrupted calmly, "And if you want to play the piece properly, then maybe you should play it slower."

"It's supposed to be fast," He said, wiping the last of his tears.

"Open the gate," young Levi commanded, "And I'll teach you."

As the boy opened the gate, he said, "I'm called Jay."

Levi entered and sat down in front of the piano.

"Sit down," he commanded.

"Alright," Jay said. "But I really do-"

"Just sit down." Jay was silent as he sat down next to Levi.

Levi took Jay's hands, and they pressed the first key together. Levi guided Jay's hands over the piano keys.

A beautiful melody was heard throughout the night, and all the while, Jay's tears dropped silently.

As they finished, Levi sighed.

"You're so slow." He said judgementally, "If you don't play faster, then you'll never perfect it."

Jay's eyes widened. "B-but you just said to play it slow-"

"Yes, but now you're playing it to slow." he interrupted. "I'll come back in a week. If you don't maintain the right speed, then I won't help you anymore." He said coldly.

Levi left the young pianist confused and wandered back into his own home.

Every week after that, he would visit him once, just to criticize his skills.

Ten weeks later...

Levi visited Jay for the eleventh time.

"Huh? Why are you here? You already visited me yesterday." Jay asked, who stopped playing.

"I'm moving out." He said emotionlessly.

Jay's eyes widened.

"You're parents are sending you abroad, too?"

"No. Bye."

Levi turned around and was about to leave when Jay grabbed his hand.

"We're friends now, right?"

Levi wrenched his hand away from Jay's.

"I wouldn't dare to be a friend of the Heredis." He said coldly.

"Oh," Jay said dejectedly. "Ok."

Levi started to leave.

"If I find you again, you're going to be my toy," Jay said.

"We'll see," Levi said unemotionally and left.
