Jiang Xiao Tian touched the rim of the teacup as he spoke to Yan Zifu. "Continue to keep an eye for that masked man."
"But master, due to the upcoming Spring Hunt, there are lots of people coming to Da Cheng," Yan Zifu reminded him.
Jiang Xiao Tian shifted his gaze to look at Yan Zifu with his sharp eyes. "You're right. But looking at the masked man, I don't think his identity is that simple. Was he here to join in the fun, or was he here with another motive? There are a lot of people gathering in Da Cheng. Some of them might come to join the Spring Hunt; others might want to cause trouble. It's not bad to be cautious."
"I understand," Yan Zifu lowered her gaze.
"When you find him, continue to observe and report back to me. Until we figure out who he was and what he was doing in Da Cheng, don't take any unnecessary action." Jiang Xiao Tian said.
Yan Zifu bowed and said, "Yes, master." She watched as Jiang Xiao Tian lifted the teacup to his lips and moistened his throat. "Master," she hesitated.
"Speak."
Yan Zifu pursed her lips to keep quiet to listen to her surrounding. Only when she was satisfied to find that there was no one near the room, did she speak in a hushed voice. "Regarding the other matter you asked me to investigate, the rumor on Prince Jing and Chancellor Chen's granddaughter, Chen Chun Hua, I found that the rumor is correct."
Jiang Xiao Tian's gaze darkened at the news.
"A few months ago, Chancellor Chen had visited Prince Yi mansion. I heard from one of the servants working in Prince Yi mansion said that the two men were discussing marriage for Prince Jing and Chancellor Chen's granddaughter. "
Hearing this news, Jiang Xiao Tian tightened his grip on his cup.
When he decided to help the Princess with this investigation, Jiang Xiao Tian had initially wished for Princess Lingchen's assumption to be incorrect. That perhaps because of her position, she was too suspicious over everyone around her.
His eyes narrowed as he thought of Princess Lingchen's suspicion that Chancellor Chen might have tried to kill her to install his daughter as the Emperor's concubine a few years ago.
If it was true, then, now that the Chancellor's granddaughter will be marrying Prince Jing, later, wouldn't they try to harm Princess Lingchen again to control the throne?
He needed to talk to his brothers soon to tighten the security around the princess before something happened. They need to have a discussion and find out something to protect their cousin's life.
Furthermore, right now, the Crown Princess was suspecting Chancellor Chen. That old man was cunning and dangerous. His influence in court was too significant. Or else, he would not hold his position as a Chancellor for almost twenty years. If she decided to go against the Chancellor, it wouldn't be easy. Any wrong move, Princess Lingchen could fall into his trap and die.
What they needed now was concrete evidence. Once they had found concrete evidence, they can present them to the Emperor.
"Master," Yan Zifu spoke and broke Jiang Xiao Tian out of his thought. "Although there was no official decree yet, I heard that the Emperor had given his blessing to this marriage. If everything goes right, Prince Jing and Chen Chun Hua engagement will be announced after the Spring Hunt."
"Continue to watch over their movements. If there's anything, send someone to report to me immediately," Jiang Xiao Tian ordered. "Is there anything else to report?"
Yan Zifu continued to give in reports around Da Cheng from her men. Then, Jiang Xiao Tian sent Yan Zifu away to pack a box of Mingyue favorite dessert to send it to her later. He then spent half an hour in the private room to gather his thought. After a while, Jiang Xiao Tian left the restaurant and went into the palace.
If one observed him carefully, they would notice the way Jiang Xiao Tian was limping as he walked.
