Chapter 16 - Queen Lyn (8)

Ever since she was a child, those around her instructed her that a ruler must be active — someone who never falters, or wavers no matter what.

Being the second daughter, the third heir of her household. Lyn thought as long as she stayed on the side of the law then everything would work out. As a princess, they taught her lessons on many things from manners, speech, grace, flower arranging, koto. Never once did they think to teach her means to protect herself.

Her father was against her using weapons of any sort. He always kept her restricted from going to the training grounds, or even doing horse riding. In other words, living life in peace. Yes without a single care in the world. But even with this restriction, the abilities inside her woke up. When she first used these powers, a grave accident happened, and since then her father has not spoken to her.

That incident leads to her realizing. From the beginning, there was never a connection. They moved her to the main manor and trained as a knight. She rose from her way up to the rankings in knighthood and served her eldest sister. At least that's what she thought. But the truth is from the moment she was born, they raised her to be a queen. It was not an accident when she used her powers that day. From they planned to raise her as a ruler from the beginning.

Her sister abdicated the throne and since then has been missing. The last words she spoke were, 'You would always be the Queen. This throne was never mine, to begin with.' She ascended the throne. People's impressions of her changed. But, did anyone think for one minute, what did she want?

After she expressed her thoughts on the matter, Allen told her that people like them could not live a peaceful life. They cannot be free. They must defer and listen to other people's wishes. Whether it was out of spite was something she understood. He said it because of experience, those of noble blood will forever live such a life.

She didn't want that lifestyle at all. She didn't want that at all although it went against what her father wanted. It may go against her people's notions of a princess. Although it went against that persons will, she discovered a way to use her blade — a way to use her magic to help somebody.

She wanted to be stronger than anyone. If she could do that much, then she could find it. Find that something that could fill the emptiness in her heart. Even though she was only young then, she still noticed it. Noticed many things that a young girl of her age should not have seen.

There is a saying that rose-colored glass does not cover the world. From a young age, Lyn noticed it. No matter how bright and beautiful the world is, the grand castles, the balls, the dresses, and jewelry. Others do not realize, but the world has already been swallowed up in darkness.

Before she took on her sword, people praised her a lot. They showered her with endless affection, sweet words. But she always felt something was wrong, and it didn't take her long to realize how fake those smiles were. Everything was for show, the words of affection, compliments. It was because she was a naive princess.

Once she gained her power, the spell broke. People did not hesitate to voice their hostility towards her. If she remained naive, she might never have known. But if she did, she would not be where she was today.

Her attacked worked, and soon she spotted cloaked figures emerging from the corner. Lyn did not waste time on idle chatter and took her stance. She closed her eyes, and it flashed a brighter shade of red: a princess, a Queen. Someone who knows forbidden magic, ought to vanish from this world. Funny enough because she used this form during that battle. People accepted it.

"Elemental Circle, a deadly song of a thousand needless." At that command, she summoned large shards and directed it towards her enemy.

The enemies used the lesser monsters as a sacrifice. This lead to the cloaked figures remaining unscathed. Allen who was no longer fighting beside her seemed to understand too. They have to get to the cloaked figures. It cannot continue like this any longer. That person words appeared in her mind.

'Now Lyn, you must be careful when you use this. It is a power that will drain all life. Yes, like a deadly poison.'

Lyn raised her hand and didn't hesitate as she summoned a new weapon. Two short blades covered in blood.

A stream of blood sprouted from the blades and her hands, towards the enemy.

Like before they tried to use the monsters as a shield but.. this time the attack went right through the beast. The person up front received the most damage. His cloak had melted because of the poison in the blood causing it to dissolve. His face half revealed, she frowned. A member of.. another kingdom?

"It stings!"

"Sir are you all right?"

"Damn this woman is a monster like that person said."

A monster.

A person like herself was born never to receive happiness or kindness from others. If people were to find out, she feigned being weak at the start. She wonders what they would think. She craved strength, more strength. But Lyn didn't understand why that was. Why did she want power?

Lyn raised both hands, muttered words in several languages and it covered the ground in red. The enemy panicked since the stream of blood poison was melting away their shoes, and their skin. "Hurts! It hurts."

Lyn sighed as she finally spoke, "Who sent you?"
