I was once a great being. No one dared to defy me. They all knelt before me in fear.
Now, however, I'm the one that trembles in fear. In fear of being eaten if the bad weather continues and the crops go to waste.
How did I, such a great being, end up in such a predicament?
Well...that doesn't matter! All that matters in my survival!
And how am I supposed to survive as a cow? A cow!
Couldn't I have turned into something more majestic? Like a phoenix or dragon?
But a cow! The indignity I felt at that moment couldn't be described in mere words.
Calm down. I need to think of how to get past this great obstacle in front of me. Others might call it a fence, but I would say it's a monstrosity that should not exist.
Ugh. I wish I was human. Any human, even a beggar would do.
Just then, someone came running toward the fence and leaped across only to land in a pile of dung.
"..."
I take it back.
A giant wardrobe was following the person. It left a rectangular crater every time it hoped forward.
Being a cow doesn't seem so bad anymore.
Then the person got up from the dung and looked at me.
"Perfect. Food for the road!"
Then, the next thing I knew, I was knocked unconscious.
***
When I woke up, I found myself in a cave. It was raining outside, but a small fire kept the cave warm. The human and the wardrobe were both there.
After getting over the initial awkwardness of speaking to a cow (yes, I could still talk), I explained my situation and we struck a deal.
It annoyed me that the human, who turned out to be the emperor's ex-lover, could get used to a ferret that was cursed into a wardrobe but found a talking cow weird.
Thus the three of us met and started a journey to pursue what we wanted most: a normal life.
If only it was that easy...
