Chapter 18 - Chapter Eighteen

Luke's P.O.V

I took in a deep breath as the crowd roared. It was the fourth down of the fourth quarter with only a couple minutes to go. It was obvious we were going to win. Our score was 42-14–it would take a miracle from God Himself if we lost.

"Crimson thirteen," our quarterback yelled, and my ears perked up at the words. "Crimson thirteen!"

Crimson thirteen was the strategy for this play. I took in a deep breath and exhaled, popping my neck as I rolled it. It had been a while since the ball had been passed to me and now was my chance to show Coach Saban what I had. I wanted him to be proud of me.

"Hut, hut, HIKE!" the quarterback yelled, and the center threw it underneath his body and into the quarterback's hands.

I sprinted for dear life, sidestepping the other team to get myself open.

Jacob–our second-string quarterback who could play at this point since we had a major lead–looked over in my direction and threw the ball, soaring through the air above the other players' heads and into my arms with ease.

With the adrenaline pumping through my veins, I dashed towards the endzone with everything I had. This was my chance to prove once more to Coach Saban that I could handle this and that he didn't need to switch me out with Kason.

The safeties, cornerback, and outside linebacker were on my trail as I rushed to the endzone. They were fast, but I was faster, picking up my pace with each stride.

I ran into in the endzone and the crowd cheered, and I looked over at the Million Dollar Band to see them cheering maniacally.

I knew that me scoring a touchdown probably meant nothing but another touchdown to most people, but to me, it was gratifying. All my hard work paid off for moments just like this and I reveled in it.

My team jumped up and down excitedly as they ran towards me, patting me on the shoulders and back.

I grinned as I joined in on their enthusiasm as we walked off the field and switched out with our defense. I looked over at Coach Saban, who didn't seem that impressed as his mouth didn't even twitch a reaction. I wanted him to be proud of me, but at this point it seemed almost impossible.

After the game I spoke with my parents for a few minutes, who were ecstatic about my touchdown. Dad kept patting me on the back while Mom kept giving me hugs, saying that I smelled of sweat but that she didn't care since she was super happy for me, which I laughed over. I had hoped that somehow, I would spot Chloe somewhere in the crowd of people, but she was nowhere to be seen. At least we were going to Pyro's Fire Fresh Pizza after this.

I went inside the locker rooms, showered and changed into clean, fresh clothes. I put on a blue t-shirt and jeans and called it a day. I quickly rubbed my hair with a towel, not caring what my hair looked like since I knew it would dry and go back to its normal self as soon as I reached the pizza place.

I reached the pizza place at seven o' clock, parking my black, GMC truck, jumped out, and headed inside. Pyro's Fire Fresh Pizza wasn't as large as I expected it to be, but I appreciated its football décor. They really seemed to like Bama football–but then again, who didn't around here?

"Hey, Luke, over here!" I heard Hailee yell.

I thought that I was going to be the first one here, but I was proven wrong. I looked in her direction to see her waving manically at me at a table for eight with Chloe at her side. I couldn't help but grin stupidly as I looked at her, walking to the table and sitting directly in front of her without even thinking.
