Chapter 2 - Waking Up as a Duke's Daughter

I opened my eyes in a not so familiar place. I was lying in a huge comfy bed with a pink canopy above.

"That's weird." I said to myself. "I don't remember checking-in in any hotels last night."

What I remember is that I bought the new romance novel written by my favorite author and was just released last night. I painstakingly waited in line for about three hours until I got my hand on the book. The title of the book was 'The Holy Maiden from Another World'.

It was a typical romance novel like the other works of the author. But because this author was so famous, you have to get in line before you buy those books.

Well I was your average thrity-ish office girl, who has zero love life since I was born. Don't get me wrong, I am not lonely or anything. I have come to terms with my physical features. I am what you call a plain jane, normal looks, flat chest, no curves in her body. Yup that is how you describe me.

Well I am not sad or anything because I am an introvert. I love being alone and reading books and watching dramas on TV are my hobbies. These things are what gets my heart throbbing. I maybe a geek or otaku at that, loving two dimensional and fictional men.

Now back to what I was doing. I remember going home in a hurry. Once I arrived at my small apartment where I was staying with my cousin, I hurriedly go to my room and closed the door. I immediately started reading the book I just bought. I didn't wash first or eat dinner, just jumped on my single sized bed and opened the book and started reading.

The summary of the book is as follows. The heroine Jennette was summoned to the kingdom of Argentine as the holy maiden that will save the kingdom from the danger the resurrected demon king brings. She came from the place called earth (of course that is our earth) and at first I was scared because she was suddenly transported to an unknown place. But with the help of young talented men, the crown prince, the son of a duke, the young knight, and the great wizard of the kingdom, she will try and save this kingdom as the holy maiden that she was summoned to be.

Okay the story is a bit cliche I guess. There may be many stories like this and to top it of, it feels like a reverse harem. But so what, this was written by my favorite author and for sure the contents will not be the same as other 'heroines summoned in another world stories. And the author also said that the heroine will pick one of the hunks to be her most beloved, and we will only know who it is in the middle of the book.

And so I was so hooked in the book that I realized it was three in the morning already. I was so engrossed that I didn't want to put down the book and read page after page after page.

I remember my cousin coming home late in the night and asking of I have eaten. I just answered no and she asked if I want to eat with her. I turned down her offer and told her maybe later. But because I was so engrossed with the book I didn't realized the time. My eyes are becoming heavy and it was an indication that I need to sleep. And so I only remembering closing the book and going to sleep.

"Then where am I now?" I wondered.

I sat up in the comfy bed and felt my head in pain.

"Ah..." I flinched in pain and patted my head. I felt bandages around it. "Huh... did I fall and hit my head or something?"

Then I realized my hands were small.

"Wait, why are my hands small. And my body is also small!" I panicked.

While turning around I felt my hair brush the side of my shoulders. When I look at it, it was long and silver in color. To my amazement, I held the strands and felt it soft and smooth to the touch.

"This... this isn't my hair." And now I was panicking.

I slowly got off the bed and saw a whole body mirror not far from me. I walked slowly and when I saw a glimpse of my reflection, I was speechless.

Just to make sure, I walked all the way to the mirror and held the surface. The reflection in the mirror was mimicking all my action.

"This can't be happening." I was shocked.

In front of me was a reflection of a small girl, maybe eight years in age. She has long silky silver hair and amethyst colored eyes. Her skin was white as ivory and her face was as beautiful as a doll. I slumped on the ground with shock.

"Did I just die in my sleep and transmigrated in someone else's body?" I panicked.

This type of thing can't be real, right? This can only happen in fiction. But right now I am seeing someone looking back at me in the mirror, and that wasn't my face.

"Oh my, young miss!" I heard someone shout from the door. When I look to that direction, I see a maid wearing a maids outfit.

'Now, you won't see that outfit often except in those maid cafes.' I thought.

"I am happy that you are awake at last." The maid was startled but regained her composure. "Quickly, tell the madam and master that young miss is awake at last." The maid said to another maid at the door.

"Y-Yes..." The other maid replied and ran.

The maid that was left helped me get up from the floor.

"Oh miss Alyssa, I am sure the madam and master will be very happy to see you awake at last." The maid said while tucking me in bed.

"W-What did you call me?" I asked in wide eyes.

"Y-Young miss Alyssa." The maid looked frightened like she was being scolded by me.

'Why would she be frightened by a child like me?' I thought. 'And the name Alyssa. It felt familiar.'

I racked my brain trying to remember something. And then I thought of the book I was reading. There was a female supporting character that resembles my current features. Long silky silver hair and amethyst colored eyes. The most beautiful woman in the kingdom, the daughter of the powerful duke and the fiancee of the crown prince. If I recall her name was Alyssa Yvonne Broderick and also a love rival of the heroine Jennette to the crown prince.

"Oh my gosh!" I said aloud.

"What is it young miss? Do you feel any pain in your head?" The maid asked worriedly.

I didn't bother to reply to the maid. What I was thinking was my situation right now. I was reborn as the duke's daughter in the book I was reading. And to top it off she isn't just some supporting character, she is the villainess and love rival of the heroine.

I only read the first few chapters into the book. But even without knowing what will happen to the character 'Alyssa', I know the end outcome of every villainess I have watched and read about.

'They either end up being banished from the kingdom or worst they get killed.' The thought made me shudder in fright.
