Chapter 20 - The Market

On my way to Nathalie, in the forest. I had a stone in my hand.

Boom!

-Sight I probably destroyed more than a dozen of stones, trying to infuse them with mana. Nonetheless I did learn somethings tough, first if I make too many pathways for the mana then the stone will crumple, if I make to less then the mana will destroy the stone. Next if I force to much mana inside it at once it'll get microscopic cracks that'll result in it crumpling again. Then if I make a to big hole in the middle for a mana reservoir then the stone can't support itself and crumples. If I make it to small, I have problems connecting it with all the pathways. The mana reservoir should supply the mana that doesn't get in form outside.

I guess that this is related to forge mastering. I just don't know if it'll help me or if it is a complete waste of time.

Alright time to look for a new one. –

I had the basket Anthony browed me packed with the coats and carpets I made. This time I didn't hunt on my way because I wont's sell game at the market.

-It would be awesome if I could have Zero scan some bookstores. Free knowledge. I just hope that there are bookstores, a library would be even better, but I don't even know the value of books or knowledge. It at least seems that for nobles it is common to have a library at home but for commoners it is rare to have more than three books. The books Anthony wants don't seem to expensive, but they aren't about magic. So maybe magic books are more expensive? Anyway, I'll just try to find books and have Zero scan them.

Even with Zero it's hard to learn everything. The time and space element are on halt till I can find new info and sound is as nonexistent as ever. The question is, if that is only in this country or if the knowledge standard is the same in others? –

I arrived at the village.

By now the villager are all friendly and welcoming to me, on my way to Nathalie's house I get greeted and sometimes one buys some game from me.

"Hello Naomi."

"Nice to see you"

"How are you doing?"

At her house.

Knock knock

Nathalie opened the door.

"Alright then let's go."

She walked out. And had something similar to a trolley suitcase but it was made of wood and really big. She probably has all here goods in there.

"Won't Tim come to?"

"No, he doesn't like the market, besides he doesn't have anything to do there. He rather trains magic or goes hunting."

-Yeah, he did try to get me to teach him again, but I didn't. Why? Because it'd be too much work with too little gain. I'm no Samaritan who helps everyone just because I get asked. Besides he couldn't give me anything I wanted in exchange. He doesn't have money, he can't teach me anything, and he doesn't have something else I want. I mean he can always buy books about magic. –

We walked to a road and along that we made our way to the market.

30 minutes of walking later.

A carriage passed by.

"Nathalie why don't we ask him to let us sit in his carriage, he heads in the same direction?"

"Because we'd need to pay him then and I don't have the money for that."

-Yeah makes sense. No Samaritans out there. –

We continued our walk. Some more carriages pass use by.

One hour of walking later.

"Um, how much further is it?"

"We'll arrive there at lunch time. Don't worry we'll make a brake soon." She smiled at me as if nothing would be odd about that.

-My a$$ nothing odd, how is walking till lunch not odd? My legs already hurt. I did walk a loot in the forest, but I had my breaks while gutting an animal, besides I need to find one and while doing that I stopped and looked then walked some. Now I need to keep walking at a consistent pace.

AND she said we'll make a break SOON, what is soon? 20 min? 30 min? Longer? I think I'll go crazy. Besides when is lunch for her? At 12 am? At 1 pm? At half past 1 pm.? I guess any later wouldn't be considered lunch. Even though some people eat later because of various reasons.

I should stop rampaging and start looking for a solution. Think, think, think…. I could start flying. Would that be rude? But I can't keep going. Wouldn't it be faster if I made us fly to the market? –

"Nathalie, I could make us fly to the marked. That would be faster."

"It would be great, you sure you can do that?"

"I know that I can cast a flying spell on myself, but I have to admit that I never tried it on someone else."

"Then let's try it and if it doesn't work then we'll just keep walking."

-Great, if I can make her fly, I don't need to walk, especially I won't need to walk on the way home. W a i t, if I don't manage than I'll have to walk home. I can't fail. –

I formed an air rune, normally I wouldn't need one, but this is too important for variables.

It wasn't difficult to lift her from the ground.

"Whoa, I'm flying. I'm really flying."

But of course, she didn't stay still. On the contrary she shifted position immediately and kept on shifting.

-I had problems keeping a balance myself now I need to concentrate on another person. By now I can do it automatically by myself but at the beginning I needed to think of how I'll move before I did it and react to it with air magic corresponding. Sight this will be difficult.

Why can't I have a flying carriage? Wait that's it. –

I let Nathalie back down.

"It's quite hard to let someone else fly, but I have an idea to make it easier. Help me look for something on which you can sit."

"Alright."

We didn't need to look long till we found a tree stump. I cut it out of the earth.

-Hopefully it works like I want it to. –

"Nathalie sit on it."

She did as I instructed, and I cast the fly spell on the tree stump.

-It is easier to keep it balanced. This could work. Alright now I need to cast it on myself and dissolve the rune. Easier said than done. I need to concentrate on two people(?). –

I cast the spell on myself and had Nathaly fly in front of me. It took a tool on my focus but I somehow managed to pull it off. With that we started to fly to our destination. I had the trolley suitcase stick to the bottom of the tree stump.

A few minutes later.

-I'm so stupid!!!!!! Zero take over the spell and keep it balanced. –

[Connecting with spell….

Connected.]

-Sight, I learned to cast fly on my own because it takes up processing space from Zero and that is limited. I wanted to be able to do it myself if Zero has to do something else. Not that I can't fly in that case, that could make things difficult. Learning how to fly was so hard. But it was worth it, it feels awesome to be able to fly on my own. –

When the spell wore down, I recycled the air element and exchanged the mana. Only the energy of the mana is used not the element directly.

This time the people we passed by looked at us and the ones who didn't have a carriage looked like they wanted a ride.

-I can't blame them. It must be more comfortable to sit on a tree stump that doesn't bump and all. It's not like I ever rode on a carriage, but films and books mentioned it. –
