[What is it about? Should I ask him? Would he answer me? Trainings ground, trainings ground… It's probably not about how good I am with a dagger. Does he want to know how good I am with magic? Oh no, that makes it even worse. I don't know how much I am supposed or allowed to know or how good I should be. Aaahhhhh-
[Wrong circulation. Accumulation isn't used anymore.]
-I didn't even stop Accumulation when Anthony told me, that he guesses that I am around his age. Ok clam down. Force the nervousness back. Breath in, breath out. Get the nervousness into a box and seal it… Huh alright, now if I'm right then I need to decide what I'll show…. Hmmm Anthony uses runes to create a spell, the spells he cast are a good quality even though he needs a long time to cast them. So, then I should use runes maybe even coordinate them with my hands after creating. There are also hand signs to help attract an element, but they are for more advanced magic practitioners, so this time I won't us them, but I already train with them. I don't want to much attention so maybe not as good as Anthony's. I won't chant that's for sure. I guess that that is for studying alone acceptable or even good? How am I supposed to know? I can only guess I don't have anything to compare it with. I just hope that my thought process isn't too much off and it really comes to about what Mr. Cacklemi expects.
Wait maybe I'm overthinking and he's just taking me to the machine or whatever tests my mental age. I don't know what would be worse. –
We arrived at the trainings ground.
"I will test you on all six basic elements. You need to stand here and hit the target with the element I will tell you."
He first pointed at where I should position myself, second at the target which is at a distance of about 15 meters.
-Whaaaaaaat!!!??? This is even worse than I thought, all six basic elements, the only good part is that he didn't include the advanced ones. I only train them in the forest like darkness, they are harder to control, and I need some understanding of the basic elements first.
Back to the topic, how good should I be at each element? I don't have enough time to come up with a detailed plan, so I'll just fail once or twice at light and darkness and make some sloppy spells with the others. Arg, I hate doing bad when I am in realty already really good at it. This is so frustrating. Ok here goes nothing. –
I positioned myself.
"We will start with fire."
-Is that all? No instructions on what spell I should use? I'm seriously freaking out! I just hope that Mr. Cacklemi isn't noticing how much I'm freaking out in my thoughts. I at least try not to show it, but I'm not sure how good I'm at that. –
I started to concentrate and imagine the spell I want to create. Then I lifted my hand and wrote the rune for fire in the air. The rune is drawn with personal mana which attracts the fire element. The fire rune has a red color and emits heat.
-Alright next up, making out of it a fireball. Just a small one. Without much heat. –
I made around the rune a round shell with my mana and let the rune fill it with the fire element. The fire element can go in, but it can't or shouldn't go out.
-No wonder Anthony needs so long to complete a spell. This way takes so long. –
I pretend to be occupied with tending to the shell I made around the rune so that it doesn't break or that it doesn't leak out some of the fire element.
-This is actually buying me time. Zero how long does Anthony need for this process?
[For this size: 10 seconds]
-It is after all a small fireball alright set timer for 30 seconds. I still didn't train magic as long es he did. I just hope that my guess is valid. –
[Timer set]
-I didn't think the magic training sessions I had with Anthony would benefit me like this. Even though there weren't that many to begin with. I need to use every change to strengthen our bond because he knows a secret of me of which I don't even now the devastation level so I should make sure that he keeps his word and doesn't want to harm me. Shit I drifted off from what I should be thinking.
If Mr. Cacklemi doesn't say what I should do, then I should just make…-
[30 seconds are over]
-Ahh, ok time to finalize the baby fireball and get started with the next element. –
The speed of which a spell is formed depends on the attraction force of the rune which depends on the understanding of the element from the caster, the size of the final spell and if the user is able to help the rune gathering the element. (A good magus doesn't need runes for every spell, he can gather the element on his own) There are also high- and low-level runes. I use the basic rune. A good elemental rune is identified at its color which is at the best three different shades and how strong it emits after creation. For example, the fire element rune is red, orange and yellow like a real flame and emits heat.
I made it so that the baby fireball would be finished after 30 seconds but I miscalculated and needed to leak a bit more than I intend to let out, of the fire element to match the time. Then I shoot, um it was slow so no shooting more like slowly rolling the fireball through the air while I coordinated it with my hand.
-Oh, shit I forgot that I have to downgrade the rune itself to. Oh no I completely forgot. Just good that I didn't put enough focus into it, so it is only red, I guess luck in misfortune.
I already train the advanced runes for mid-level spells, so my normal runes are of course to over leveled, I am in deep trouble. My luck for having a great magic aptitude and a chip. –
The fire ball hit, and the dummy caught fire.
-I guess I failed to trim down the heat enough. Well maybe I'll end up as some attraction or gunny pig. I still think that it isn't normal for a two-year-old with no teaching to be this good at magic. But I'll still try my best to do bad, this hurts my self-esteem. –
Mr. Cacklemi had one of the guys how always train here, bring a new dummy.
"Next is water."
-No comment on how well or bad I did? –
Alright the same as before but this time I'll make the rune bad to. –
This time I made a sloppy water rune it was of a dirty blue color like a polluted river or lake. And it barley emitted some tranquility, that you would normally feel when standing by a lake in the forest.
-I guess I did it right this time. Now the same as before. –
I created a round mana shell around the rune. It was as small as the fire ball.
-Zero set timer for 30 seconds. –
[Timer set]
-I'll just let the water ball slowly roll there through the air and soak the dummy. The real problems are light and darkness. Should I just say I can't use them or fail a few times and succeed, like I came up before or just fail often enough till Mr. Cacklemi tells me to stop? Arg, I hate it. –
While contemplating I pretended to be absorbed in the creation of my polluted baby water ball.
[30 seconds are over.]
-I still didn't come to an answer. Anyway, lets finish the water ball. –
I finished up and rolled it through the air to the dummy, it was a little faster than intended but still the water ball didn't do any damage to it.
"Next is earth."
-Still no comment on my performance. Ok then earth. –
I made a brown earth rune with some cracks in it. The rune didn't emit the smell you would normally get from fresh forest earth.
-I just try to make them the same I did when I started training them. I hope it has the effect I want. –
Then making a mana shell round it. Setting timer and contemplating.
…
The end product was a dark brown ball of earth with some cracks that rolled towards the dummy and on impact the baby earth ball crumbled without doing any damage expect of dirtying the dummy.
-I guess I did pretty bad this time around. I shouldn't be proud of myself when I do bad, hhaa this is really crippling my self-esteem. I just want to let everyone know how awesome I am but that probably would only get me into big and deep trouble. Why did it seem, to the protagonists in the books I read, so easy to pretend that they are weak and don't know anything? –
"Next is air."
-Yep, still no comment. –
I make a light-grey air rune. When it's done properly then the whole rune waves in the air. I didn't do it properly and it loses its form while waving but it stabilizes itself before falling apart. From the movement of the rune should go out breezes of fresh air my rune didn't do that.
-I wonder if he'll criticize that I split my time studying all basic elements and not using it to master one? –
Then making a mana shell round it. Setting timer and contemplating
This time when the baby air ball hit the dummy the air current did manage to do some small damage, but it was all over the dummy if it was concentrated on one point it would be worth something but like this it's not.
"Next is light."
-Sigh, alright I'll just fail often enough till Mr. Cacklemi says I should stop. –
I made a light rune which I failed to complete about three times. In the end it was a very light-yellow one. It was really small and of such a light color that it was nearly invisible. It didn't emit any light or holiness either. Then I tried to make a mana shell around it which I intentionally failed about three times. Then I mad the rune dissolve and started over again, after repeating this process for about two times Mr. Cacklemi had enough of it.
"Alright that is enough. Next is darkness."
"Um, I am even worse at darkness than light."
"Just try it."
-So much for the easy way out. –
I made a darkness run for which I took five times to complete. It's supposed to have such a deep black color that you feel your soul absorbed if you stare at it for too long. Mine was a dark grey. The rune also didn't emit any death or decay. Then the mana shell. The first time I let the rune endure the intended failure of the shell the second time I made it dissolve. Mr. Cacklemi endured the repetition of it three times than he had enough.
"Alright that is enough. How often and how long did you train your magic?"
"Um, only on Sundays when I go to the forest. But I use fire magic to light candles."
"Then my theory should be accurate."
-What is this frikking theory you have about me???!!!-
