Chapter 1 - Chapter One: Part 1 - One of a kin

[ ? ? ? ] P.O.V.

One night in the village of Thirvania a pair of twins was born when the moon was full and the sky was red. One shed tears while the other stayed silent. Thinking that this little one was cursed, they kept him locked up in an old windmill.

That child... Was me

Years have passed and I continue to look out the window day after day to see a glimpse of town. I, the younger brother remained with no name and never went out of the windmill.

After six years of being taken care of by this kind woman with blond hair and blue eyes. She... disappeared, making myself realize that I needed to survive on my own. I learned how to hunt in the nearby forest after growing tired of eating berries, which may or may not be poisoned, and got water from a spring I discovered after following a few rabbits.

One day, as I was running after a wild boar, I bumped into Alphonce, an orphan from the village who grew to be adored by others and is as kind on the inside as he appears to be on the outside. I don't even how we were able to become friends.

We grew fond of each other and immediately became best friends until one day I started to become conscious of things.

He who had blond hair, blue eyes, and practically looked like one of the angels who fell from heaven - should be friends with others like him, and not like me who looked as though I had lived my entire lives in a pig's den.

I am not even sure of what my hair color should be because of all the dirt that I just can't seem to get rid off( not like I really bothered ) and is styled as if an entire forest could live in it.

I couldn't even cut it evenly, the one time I cut it Al made fun of it for the entire month!!!

(... I may or may not have cut my bangs a few inches above my eyebrows)

So now I just tie the back portion of it and let the front cover my eyes.

After a few years, our friendship grew blurry and bland, with lesser communication each day.

One day I decided to go out and meet him there in town.

I scurried down the vines which was attached to the walls of the windmill and ran until there I was, standing in the middle of the wide open grass fields.

My distance from the village seemed closer than I first thought.

Oh wait!!!

I just realised that I should probably freshen up. After all it has been a few... Seasons since I properly washed myself.

I headed to the lake and jumped in. As I splashed around and scrubbed myself like never before, I finally looked at my reflection in the water.

My hair wasn't black, it was dark brown!!! With weird strokes of blue...

My eyes, now that I got a closer look, are green. I also saw a mole under my left eye- " just great~ another imperfection" adding to my dark skin.

Ughhh. I look more like a roasted duck than I do a person!!!

I stared at myself for a while until I was brought back to reality by a fish that had slapped me.

"oh well. Time to go to the village."

I clutched my fist rose it to the sky. 'Yeah!!!' I mentally shouted.

I looked around hoping no one saw me and got out.

As I was heading to the village i passed through the grassy fields.

While running, the breeze gently pressed on my face. I felt like I was in heaven as the world around me felt calmer, freer.

Before I realized it instead of running towards the village, I was running in circles. I thought about how nice it would be if I were Al – that's how I call Alphonce – and reached my hand to the sky blocking the view of the sun. I noticed that my skin became lighter and was covered by a faint purple glow but I did not have enough time to think about it before a villager came to me and asked why I was wearing such filthy clothes.

I stood there silent, not knowing what to do, nor how to react, then was suddenly pulled by her towards the village and into a cottage house with a sign that labeled "Orphanage". There, many children were running around and playing until they noticed the woman and lined up.

They all greeted her at the same time then the woman told a girl who looked 14-15 years old to go and get me a new set of clothes. Afterwards; I was brought into "my" room.

I looked around the room a bit until I noticed my reflection. I did not look like me at all. The blond hair, blue eyes and porcelain white skin, except for the mole I had under my left eye and the ragged clothes, I was a splitting image of Al.

I was paralyzed in fear until I was brought back to my senses by a faint knocking on the door.

I was stumbling all over as I rushed over and twisted the doorknob. Then I saw the girl earlier who handed over to me a fresh set of clothes. I bowed my head and thanked her, but a bit shocked at the reaction I saw on her face. She looked weirded out by my reaction and was about to ask me a question but then she just shook her head, bowed, and spun on her heel as she left.

I closed the door and concentrated of figuring out how to look like myself again. I changed into the clothes and stared at my reflection in the mirror and noticed something. Even if the tone of my skin and the color of my hair and eyes changed, I still had my face, but it was also Al's face except for the mole

I took a few steps back into a realization / conclusion, "Was he my brother?! Could we be twins?!" That feeling I had that I was missing a part of me.

My intuition for all these years… I may be right!!! Those dreams I had before, thee visions I had all too frequently when I was young, I did have a brother and I have found him.

I looked back at my reflection and realized my skin, eyes, and hair had gone back to their original colors, at the same time noticing something / someone else.

I turned around to greet him and jumped up expecting something like a hug but instead was greeted by a fist to face situation.

I fell with a loud thud on the floor and held my cheek. I look at his face which had turned cherry red.

"You are not supposed to be here! What were you thinking, leave before the other villagers find out."

"Why?" I asked before he looked at me with murderous intent.

"You are lucky enough that I actually stuck with you every day, and I don't want my reputation soiled by someone like you so get out!"

I ran as fast as I could through and away from the village thinking about what had just happened. WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?!

The only person who reached his hand out and accepted me turned out to be my brother who I longed for and gave all my trust to just punched me in the face and shouted at me to get out.

I returned to the windmill in hopes that it was all just a fucked up dream, a nightmare.

I climbed onto my bed and told myself

"Yep, I'm dreaming; otherwise, how could I have looked like him!" I fell asleep with the throbbing pain I still felt from the punch.

The morning sun rose and I opened my eyes. I went to the window and there he was, chasing a butterfly, Alphonce. Shaking my head and trying to forget what had happened the night before, i gathered all my courage to face him.

As soon as he noticed me standing there a few feet away, I was immediately greeted with a hug.

I looked at him confused on what had just happened or did anything really happen? I asked him

"Why did you punch me yesterday? I know it was my fault suddenly appearing out of nowhere but still!"

He looked at me a bit confused then began laughing and pats my shoulder.

"Are you okay pal? You must still be half asleep." He nudged my shoulder making his way to the windmill. And with a warm smile he said "C'mon stop staring at me as if you've seen a ghost."

When we got in I offered water and stale bread – for it was all I had, which would usually be a day's meal, but this day… it felt special - then we continued chatting. He told me about his life in the village and I told him about my experiences in the forest. Soon we got to the topic of my dream which made me question him a while ago. I leaned in a bit closer and held my breath a bit to calm myself down.

"Can I. . . Can I come with you to the village?" I closed my eyes expecting a venomous outburst from him but instead heard faint laughter.

I opened my eyes

"Of course you can! I was just about to ask you the same thing!" he gave of that smile he always shows when he is trying to hide something.

I know because his real smile makes him look like an idiot trying to show off his teeth.

A type of smile that would bring hyenas to shame.

...

Also because I told him before that I know when he lies since his left ear twitches (lie) therefore making him try to hide it by either tilting his head to the side or using his hands to cover it which made it more obvious.

The way he smiled after he said that sentence was hollow and he was scratching his ear in a way to hide it.

I just nodded my head and let it slide unaware of what was about to happen.

After a few more jokes and laughs we headed out into the village which seemed more calm or silent than I thought.

I looked around the village that was giving a slight feeling of de ja vu. I just smiled and went along with everything he tells me to do, subconsciously trying to look away from reality.

Suddenly I was grabbed from behind and had a piece of cloth cover my mouth. My legs started to feel numb and I black spots started covering my field of vision. I looked around desperately searching for Al's eyes until I finally fell unconscious.

OOOOO

As I gained a bit of consciousness, I heard murmurs all around me. I opened my eyes and as soon as they had adjusted to the light, the situation became clearer.

I had been tied on a stake jutting from a pile of smoking wood. Once again, my eyes had glided through the town's folk to find Al. Once I had seen him, only one thought came into my mind. I had hoped, even just a little that he did not set me up. But as I saw him standing there doing nothing and an old man patting his back, all that hope just burst away…

Numb, I looked down to my feet which had been nailed to the stake. All the sounds around me had been cut off and all I saw was red. Tears had clouded my eyes and I felt that everything had tightened up, I felt like I could no longer breathe.

At that moment, I hated the world and I hated God thinking "Why me?! What did I ever do to deserve this?... "With a grin that covered my entire face, I chuckled and softly muttered "I must have terrorized an entire country or something in my past life for this to happen to me now."

I realized that yesterday was reality not some dream I convinced myself of believing. I was just stuck up in my made up fantasy. With the strength I could muster up, I struggled and pulled on the ropes. With the sounds of the ropes snapping apart and the cries of the people bringing me back from my trance - with all the frustration I felt building up over the years - I let out a scream and decided to let all my anger out.

As soon as my feet touched the ground, I threw the biggest tantrum in history, and probably the most sinful thing anyone could have ever done.
