Damon held Meira all through the night. The sounds of screams and chaos all around them. At some point Meira had fallen asleep out of pure exhaustion. She had been crying the whole time so Damon wasn't surprised when she had just suddenly gone quiet and limp in his arms. Her breathing had deepened and her heart rate slowed.
He didn't dare move in fear of waking her. And, when morning came and the sounds from the night had faded away, Damon stood with the sleeping princess in his arms and walked out into the bloody red dawn.
Bodies, bones, and ash crunched under his boots as he walked through the courtyard of the palace. Making his way to the stables for his steed. He had planned to leave this place before the princess could wake and find her home and all the people in her kingdom were gone. But, as he put her down on a thick bed of hay her eyes fluttered open.
Their eyes met and held for the longest time. Neither of them moved or said a word. It came to an end only when the equain began to make noise in Hope's of breakfast. The magical beast bucked his head agaisnt his masters torso.

The equain seemed restless. Perhaps it knew that the night had been full of horrors. Or perhaps it just wanted the apple that had fallen from the dark princes shirt pocket. Either way Meira was understanding of the creature and its unease. It was as scared as her.
Meira reached up slowly to pet the monstrous creature. His silky black fur shimmered and turned Blue in the places she touched it. He turned his head to see her with one of his big gentle silver eyes. Unlike human horses, Equain are much larger. Depending on the type of magic the Equain is bred with depends on the color they are and the color of their flaming Mane and tail. The Dark Equain come in 6 different colors. This one in particular is solid black with silver eyes and silver hooves. Dark blue flames come up from around his hooves. His mane and tail both have the same dark blue flames as well. And, when something touches it the black fur on his body turn to a bright sky blue.
He was by far Meira's favorite.

Damon watched as the young light princess became completely entranced by his Euquain. Being that she's never left the light kingdom seeing a different breed of Equain was very rare for her.
He only stole a few moments to feel pleasure that she was still able to feel joy even after all that had happened. But, it couldn't last. He clicked his tongue once and the Equian lowered itself down so that they could get on.

Meira was hesitant to allow the handsome dark elf Prince to take her into his arms atop the Equian and leave this place. But, she also desperately wanted to go with him.
In the end she found her self nestled between his thighs and arms. Her back up agaisnt his chest. "I'm going to take care of you." This was the first time she had heard his voice. It was deep and intimidating much like his appearance. But, also gentle. She couldn't help but trust him.
For better or for worse she knew she was going to be with him for the rest of her life.
