35 B.C. On the outskirt of the kingdoms of Vatsa.
"Elves, Dwarves, and Human were all the creator precious creation. We were brought by the god to this promised land. Elves were the first but Gods created them too pretty, Dwarves was the second but Gods created them too skillful, Gods created other races but fail too arrived at perfection. We were the last, the perfect one, therefore, we were the master the failed demihumans were the servants, elves and dwarves were equal but God favors us more. Thus, the hill of origin, the Gate of beginning, the fertile land were our rights because Gods wills it." A Young boy, Woden, closed the book after he heard a knock on the carriage's door.
"We heard the sound of wolves, so I asked our scout to detect the surrounding and he reported to me that there was a sound of fighting and girl's crying nearby in this vicinity. May I asked for your permission to help the unlucky traveler?" A middle age adventurer politely asked an old man wore the white robe who sat on the comfortable couch inside the carriage.
"Who cares? Just move on!" An old man shouted angrily at the adventurer.
The middle age adventurer was angry, he was a village boy before he came to the city and lived as an adventurer, he knew full well of wolves nature. But as an escort, he could not disobey the order of his employee,
" I'm sorry.? He thought inside and sighed, readied to head back to his position in the front. He also told his friend to went back to their position. His friends seem to understand what happened, they too sighed and lower their head to the place they guess the victims were.
The carriage was the church carriage that could only be used by those of pontiff status, there were three persons inside.
The old man in the white robe, a perfect stereotype of a greedy fat bastard priest, who just answered the adventurer was one of a pontiff.
In the opposite side, there was another middleaged pontiff beside Woden. The boy seems restless after he heard the story but he could not do anything. He looked into the pontiff beside him who was his uncle, his uncle looked at him then said to the old pontiff.
"My friend, it looks like my nephew is in need of the bathroom right now. Would you mind to let him go to the forest for a minute?" the middleaged pontiff asked the older one.
"Fine." The older one answered. The old pontiff thought otherwise but he agreed nonetheless.
Although, both of them were of the same rank. In reality, the power and influence between them were different. The middleaged pontiff came from the house of Maximus, while the older pontiff came from the normal magician household.
The house of Maximus had a long history with high prestige even among the inner circle of nobles, magician or the church. Their family was the few true nobles in a sense, this house was there from the beginning of mankind. They built the sacred city along with the first group of men, created the light towers and from then on the house of Maximus was the true master of the light tower, their surname of Maximus also came from their position as the head of the pontiffs.
Pontifex Maximus, the highest rank for a priest, most of the time this rank would fall in hands of few elite families, the Hose of Maximus was one of them.
Anyway, the older pontiff was once a good guy who dedicated himself to honorable poverty, committed free healing with his light magic and fought monsters for the poor village that could not afford the price to hire adventurer.
Time may change him a b… a lot but inside he was not the sinister man. Since the other one even gave him face by using his nephew as a reason, there was no need for needless conflicts.
"I will nap for a while, no need to rush." The older pontiff told the boy, then lied down.
The boy, Woden Maximus grandmaster of light tower's first son, looked at his uncle's eyes to confirm. When his uncle nodded, he then rushed to the adventurer and asked them to rescue the wolves victims.
"Let's go and help them, time is the essence, hurry up."
"Yes, sir!" The leader complied with the boy whose name he didn't know. "Who cares? Let rescue those fellow first!" The adventurer thought in his head.
They returned to the place they first heard the sound. These adventurers were not the noble or magician birth who did not qualify to succeed the house, they were just the common people who worked as a hunter and adventurer if there was an available job they could do, consequently, they could not use high-level magic to tracking down the origin of the sound.
Frankly speaking, those two pontiffs were a lot stronger than them, even the old man could at least cast a holy smite to blasted the adventurer head off if he wanted. For these adventurers, their role was more like dust sweeper than guards.
The boy, Woden, cast magic to looked for the victims.
"Oh Anshar the father sky, please lend me your eyes and sense to determine those with malicious intent." He could not look for victims directly, so he cast the spell 'detect' to look for the wolves instead.
"There they are. In the southeast, I detected a number of malicious intent there."
"Okay! A pack of wolves is a good practice, we haven't got a good workout for a while."
"AyeAye!!" The other two adventurers approved of their leader's words.
Well, even a bandit love their life. Who would dare to attack a church's carriage?
Divine retribution, God punishment, not even count the man inside the carriage himself may be crazily strong. Even if the bandits succeed in their mission at the time, surely some would come for their head later.
Yes, the adventurer really was hired to chase annoying pests and animals rather than real fight.
The leader did not go after his friends to take care of Woden for safety, just in case, some ferocious animals came to attack.
Woden did not want to stay, he wanted to see the situation instead.
"A boy is a boy, I guess." The leader thought.
When they arrived at the scene, they found the two adventurers just finished killed off the wolves. There were two boys in a bad shape and one girl crying. One of the boys was collapsed while the other boy leg was gravely injured, and a young girl sat crying on the floor. When Woden saw that, he rushed to the boy with a wound on his leg and started healing him first.
"Woah! Your skill has improved a lot!" The leader talked to his friends. He looked at a dozen wolves lied down on the ground, in fact, if he did not see himself he would not believe that his friends were capable of doing this in such a short time.
"Ha…ha…" The two adventurers gave an awkward smiled and told what they saw to their leader.
