SUMMER'S P.O.V.
"Hi Flint!" I greeted when i saw him at one of the booths i'm passing.
"hi back!" He grinned and walked up to me. "where are you in to?"
"getting my stuff. I left them last night after performing." And i felt an ache in remembering it. My father's rage, my broken guitar and hadn't talk to my father yet. Ugghh! Why did it have to ruin my moment last night?!
"you're the best last night." He uttered as we're passing the crowd. Anyway, outsiders are allowed to enter, only for the festival days.
"only last night?" I lifted an eyebrow at him.
He chuckled. "no. You're the best. As always."
"that's better." I smiled at him.
I headed to the student body room with Flint. I found it placed on the table. And beside it, is my ruined guitar with a letter on top of it.
I don't know what happened. I just spotted it ruined at the backstage. But all your other stuffs are safe. I don't know what to do with it so i just picked up the pieces. Not planning to threw it in case that's not what you want.
By the way, you rocked hell the show last night! You're the best Summer!
Trim
I smiled reading his closing remarks. And so it was from Trim. One of Skyler's group. And as far as i'd remember, this one had a crush on me.
"Trim?" Flint said behind me with disgust. "that's one of West's friend, right?"
I diverted my neck to so see his face and a scowl is showed on it.
"yeah."
"by the way, what happened to your guitar?" He asked, looking curiously at it. I glanced at my shattered guitar then back at him.
"shattered." I said sarcastically and smirked.
He groaned. "com'on Summer Grant. Don't give me your sarcastic crap now." He reached the guitar's pieces at the table. "why is it shattered? Is someone pranking you?" He turned to face me.
"nope. If someone ever does that to me, he or she will be seeing hell here in Earth." I threatened. "well, my father banged it at the floor yesternight."
Flint suddenly grasped both my shoulders and roamed his eyes on my body like checking something. "did he hurt you?" He looked up on me then and stared at my face. His eyes landed on my lips and cheeks. "he slapped you." It is a statement. Not a question.
"you're saying the obvious." I shoved his hands from me and started gathering up my things. "com'on, let's hit the fun!" I said cheerfully as i smacked his back and walked out first. I threw the ruined guitar at the trash even if it hurts me to throw it. It's my first guitar that i bought from my own earnings. I sigh. I need to earn more now to buy a new one. Atleast my electric guitar's still safe and can be sound. I side carried it at my right shoulder. It's a little heavy actually.
Flint's at her heels. "let me bring that for you." He said.
"okay." I passed him my guitar.
After settling the guitar to his right shoulder he wrapped his other arm at my shoulders and we walk like a couple. It's fine with me. We're just this close.
While walking anywhere at the campus, we're laughing and giggling at our random conversations. There are prying eyes also and i'm sure everyone thought we're on a relationship, but i don't give a crap about it.
Then we happen to see Skyler's group coming in our way along with him. But he doesn't seem to notice me because he's saying something to his group and they all laughed.
"hey." Flint woke up my mind.
I didn't notice i'm staring boldly at Skyler. I look at Flint.
"why are staring at him?" He asked blatantly and i noticed the annoyance in his tone and expression.
"nothing. You jealous?" I asked sheepishly.
It was meant to be a joke but then i saw his seriousness. And he's avoiding my gaze. Oh my god! Is he really jealous? What for?
"n--" i cut him off.
I look at him squarely in the eyes and i folded my arms infront of him. "you don't have feelings for me, do you?" I asked seriously. I narrowed my eyes at him to figure his answer if he lies or not.
We stared at each other for a few seconds then his shoulders slumped down. He sighed soundly. He looked down then looked at me. Crap! I know that look!
"i do." He confessed gently and even cupped my face in his hand.
I stood frozen for a while.
"but i don't." Atlast i found my words.
"i know." He stepped closer to me. "but i still want to be your boyfriend. Just give me a chance."
Summer thought for a while. Why not? Even if i already have a boyfriend, he won't know by the way. Besides, Flint is fun to be with and my bestfriend so no harm done. He's hot and handsome and most of all, i trust him.
"okay, boyfriend." I stated cheerfully and reach up to kiss his lips. My arms wrapped around his neck and his hands snaked my waist to pull me closer to him.
"so, i'm officially your boyfriend now? Not just your bestfriend?" He asked after pulling myself from him.
"yup. Or unless you want to have back your old status?" I questioned him.
He laughed then put his arm around my shoulders. "depends." We continue roaming around the campus and stop at some booths we want to participate or play.
After that, we have lunch and continue enjoying the day.
When evening comes, Flint and I had dinner before sending me home.
Entering the house, i know i can never avoid my father forever so i prepared myself for his lecture. I just want this to be done quickly because i'm tired from all the day's fun.
I quickly tiptoed quietly to my room before he caught me with another of my guitar. I feel like a burglar in our own house. I fished my key holder from my pocket and unlocked my room. When the door opened, i moved in quickly and locked it again. I sighed in relief and let out a breath that i hadn't notice i've been holding in.
I switched on the switch and the light boomed in my room. I adjusted my eyes for the lights before settling my stuffs at the corner.
Then someone knocked at her door as she approached to her bathroom.
"Summer, i know you're there. Come out here and let's talk." Said her father sternly.
Summer sighed and frowned.
She approached the door with a heavy feet and before opening it, she breathed and exhaled deeply.
Of course this would literaly happen.
I followed him downstairs, to the living room.
"why are you doing this Summer?" He asked as he turned around to face me.
"i told you, i can't let go of music."
"why Summer? Besides that, why?!"
"because.. Because mom loved it. It's her thing. I want to follow it. It made her happy and--"
"it costed her life! It will only remind us pain of her loss!"
"yeah, it reminded us her loss but we also need to look up the positive dad! It brought us joy back then, it also reminded us of her happiness and being together. It's as if her soul is one with music."
"your mom died because of music and anyone can. I already lose your mother, Summer. I'm not even be able to live a minute if i lose you too." Her expression turn soft and vulnerable at the moment.
So he was just afraid that i'd ended up like my mother.
"dad, it's my fault she died. Not the music." I bowed my head, i can't look him in the eyes. "i'd broken a string before the competition starts. She went out to buy me a new guitar instead of just a string. Then you showed up and said that she would never be able to come back to us. She's gone." My voice cracked at the last. A lump in my throat is building up, i gulped it but it won't be gone fully. I'm trying to hold back my tears.
"it's not your fault. I'm not blaming you. It was an accident. But i want to blame something for losing your mother. I wanted to try to focus away from her loss and focus on what made her gone."
"she loves music dad. If we just cut it out of our lives it's the same as cutting her out also. If we just ban the music it's as if she died for nothing."
"because she really did die for nothing!"
"no dad!" I snapped. "she didn't die for nothing! She died with her passioned thing till her last breath. So we can't just cut the music out of our lives! I can't just do it!"
"Summer! Just obey me for once! Focus in your studies. Go to college and graduate."
"i don't have any plans for college!" She answered back, writhing in annoyance.
Her father palmed his face. And sighed in frustration.
"i don't know what to do to you anymore, Summer." He said, helplessly.
"then don't do anything. Just let me be." She huffed and marched back to her room, banging the door close.
