Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: That Day...

Panning the frigid airs of Panshaw, clots of puffy white lay adrift on the bone-chilling nightly gusts, shimmering until they became one with snow. Panshaw is a small town located in northwestern Leskoria, a peaceful location away from the core of domestic politics.

Lined up on the sidewalks neatly bordered on Main Street, crowds of people dressed for the weather in warm clothing awaited the parade. The Parade, held annually, was meant to reassure the people of their protection. Amongst the crowd of people natives made foreigners seem like dwarves, towering like giants among them. Soon, elegant floats pulled by classic vehicles came along down the road with peppy music from good ol' Germany.

Each float held a Nazi symbol, Nazi soldiers, and propaganda like nobody had ever seen. Then came a young woman, standing tall like her peoples and boasting crystal blue eyes with elegant and long blonde hair, tightly trotting around the block toward the crowd with a little boy trailing behind. The woman peered over her shoulder at the child. "Come on, Benjamin! We can't miss the parade!" She shouted through the drizzling snow. The little boy ran as fast as he could and accidentally tripped, tumbling into the snow with a thud.

The young woman skidded to a halt and spun around. She rushed over to Benjamin and knelt in front of him. "Are you okay?" She asked worriedly, lifting the child out from the snow. "Yeah, I'm fine! Let's go see the parade!" He replied with a kiddish grin. With a reassured smile on her lips, Nanna lifted her little brother to his feet while the sound of rabid gunfire filled the streets, following that... the screaming of many people.

Nanna glanced over her shoulder to watch the horrors on Main Street. Nazis gunned down the elderly and children, injured and captured the strong men and women, and destroyed the storefronts decorated for the holidays. Bullets whipped through the air, glass to store windows shattered, and the once white snow was stained red.

Nanna took initiative not to save herself... but her brother instead. Without a second thought Benjamin was swooped into Nanna's arms and she dashed through the snow streets as fast as she could. People were in a panic, barreling through those not fast enough to make an escape. "Nanna, why is everybody running?" Asked Benjamin in an innocent tone, like everything he said. "Don't worry about it, I'm taking us home. Don't pay any attention to it." She said reassuringly, pushing through the scattering people to a neighborhood a few blocks away...

Nanna came to a stop with eyes of shock and a dropped jaw. The neighborhood... the houses were battered. Nazis had already come through and led those they seemed acceptable to large black vans meant to take them away. Suddenly, a brittle, gloved hand rested on the outer portion of her thigh... and Nanna remained still. Around came a Nazi Soldier, whom aimed a gun up at Benjamin's head... and with a quick pull of the trigger, Benjamin's life came to a halt. The bullet hit him in the back of the skull.

Nanna couldn't utter a single word and held the corpse in her arms closer. As the streets began to settle, Nanna now had the gun pointed up at her head. "Drop the child... and get on your knees. Now!" Yelled the Nazi. Nanna complied with quivering lips, dropping the child's corpse and falling to her knees. She was cuffed, stuffed into one the vans... and carried off to her new home...
