Chapter 37 - Experimentation

Weeks passed as Fraser experimented on his trading spoils.

Even though the potion trading was easily done in one day, the sorting and documentation of the spoils took way longer.

For example, the baby bat which Fraser acquired from one of the older students who wasn't in the inner circle still was a baby.

It did grow a little bit, however, the fact that the baby bat is a chubby cute round ball of fur didn't change.

Instead, it grew even more dependent towards Fraser.

Whenever Fraser was a couple of meters away, the baby would start to quick in an annoying matter.

Thus leaving no choice to Fraser who now carried the baby bat in a pocket on his robe.

'Even if the baby bat is annoying as hell, if I send it out with a command it will try to please me. I actually was able to perceive the impressions of the baby bat when I send it out to scout another room. There was the wooden table which seemed a lot bigger and the rest of the applications.'

However Fraser didn't only experiment with the baby bat, he also cut open the corpses of many different creatures. All of these corpses were traded with the seniors of the inner circle.

After all, Fraser accepted all offers of the senior apprentices of the inner circle in order to leave a good impression as well as to perceive whether they would take advantage of him, give him the market value or give him a little bit more in order to build up a good relationship.

Fraser stored all organic parts of the corpses in different glass jars and even sorted the glass jars in order to remember which organic part was from which creature.

To be honest he had no idea for what the creatures organic parts could be used for as most books in the outpost library only mentioned the danger and the living habit of the creatures.

But there were a few parts which were self-explanatory.

For example, all poisons, whether it came from a snake, bat, insect, weird ball-shaped spike, bear, wolf, worm or even rocks could be smeared on a weapon and used against the enemies.

However, most creature corpses were only useful to be stored in the Database of the AI.

Sometimes there were interesting bodies which seemed almost other-worldly. Weird shaped heart, no heart at all, no blood in a corpse of the same creature and many more.

The most fascinating thing Fraser saw was a parasitic insect inside one of the corpses.

As Fraser looked inside the body of the corpse, it was a colossal cave bear, he could see a weird shaped yellow insect inside the brain of the colossal cave bear.

It seemed to be eating the brain of the colossal cave bear while still maintaining control.

Sadly, or fortunately, the parasitic insect was already dead and the only remaining thing was the insect entangled with the brain of the colossal cave bear.

As Fraser continued to examine the corpse of the colossal cave bear he could see that a couple of yellowish small dots were implanted in his body.

With suspicion, Fraser glanced at the yellowish small dots. After all, they were scattered through the entire body of the colossal cave bear without any sort of structure or reason.

As Fraser continued to cut the corpse of the colossal cave bear he could see an almost transparent yellow orb in the backbone of the colossal cave bear.

As if petrified Fraser glanced at the yellow orb.

The same parasitic insect, only a little bit smaller could be seen sucking on the bone marrow of the already deceased colossal cave bear.

In order to not disturb the eating process of the unknown parasitic insect Fraser cut out a huge part of the flesh and out the entire thing in a thick glass jar.

Where the glass jar came from? Naturally, it came from the howling abyss academy. Apparently, all outpost had a "few" servants, which in truth translated to about a ratio of one apprentice per five servants.

These servants would cook, clean, produce normal things like iron swords, glassware or wooden crafts and also serve the outpost in general.

Fraser didn't saw these servants at first when he arrived at the outpost as he lived like a hermit, however, Fraser quickly abused the servants in a smart manner.

He wouldn't even go out anymore and instead order a servant to bring him food and order something he needed. For example glass jars, glass flasks, wooden tables, any wooden crafts or mortal weapons like iron sword, iron shield and many more.

As male servants would only serve male apprentices and the female servants would only serve female apprentices, there was no case of prostitution or sexual abuse.

However, most females and males would gladly try and appease the apprentices in order to receive benefits.

At least that is what Fraser had heard in the canteen before he started ordering food towards his private chambers.

Strangely Fraser didn't felt anything exciting when he realized he could actually just spend the night with a girl who would be willing. Instead, he suddenly felt a strange feeling welling up in his body. Which he naturally tried to ignore as quickly as possible.

Fraser already knew the birds and the bees and every other aspect of sexual intimacy. However, he never experienced it.

After all, he wasn't a popular member of his family, neither somebody with a good future. Instead, he always tried to survive or be able to live.

He didn't even try to sexually harass somebody from the dukedom of his father.

After all, he had a couple of siblings who would actively try to play the white knight. The result would always be the same, the woman or man would end up getting dumped for the next damsel/gentleman in distress.

Although Fraser knew some of the stories of his siblings, after all, he needed to know who was the top boss in the group in order to avoid him and be as less visible as possible, he didn't really care about the names.

This strategy of ignoring the world and focusing on his own life spared Fraser from almost all of the bigger dramas in his family and would probably save him from a lot of dramas in the Magus world as well.

Naturally he couldn't avoid every drama in existence as some dramas tend to involve every member of a certain family or organization. However most people would give him little to no attention and thus he was mostly good to go.

After all Fraser didn't really had any supporter or was treated better than any other sibling.

At least that was the case of Fraser until he joined the inner circle of Magus Sept.

Now he was finally in the group with benefits. However most apprentices of the inner circle didn't care about any social connections, at least that is what Fraser saw.

So he naturally followed the examples and thus holed himself up in his private chamber and continued to experiment.

Finished straying off from his thoughts Fraser glanced at the yellowish transparent orb which for obvious reasons was the egg of the parasitic insect.

After storing it in the glass jar Fraser only checked on any movements of the egg, only to see it still sucking nutrients from the dead corpse.

Now, the yellow transparent egg had a small crack which Fraser observed through the glass.
