Chapter 10 - Improvise

Immediately after I spotted him I walked up and closed the curtain. I don't think he saw me but he must know we're here along with Sophia. Instantly after I closed the curtain Jocelyn walked into the room. "Jason?", she said. "Yeah?", I responded. She then opened the door a little bit more to show that there were cops talking to a nurse up the hall. "We gotta go.", she said. I looked down at Ty. "You remember what I said right?" Ty then looked at the T.V. and then back at me. "Yeah," he said. "I got you bro." He held out his hand and we did our handshake. Once we were done me and Jocelyn headed out into the hall but we turned right so we wouldn't run into the cops. As we were walking I decided to talk to her telepathically. "We gotta stop and get Sophia before we leave," I said. "What? Why? She's fine," She said. I looked back to make sure the cops weren't behind us. "No, she's not. That man from the market followed us. I saw him across from Ty's room on the rooftop," I said. Jocelyn then closed her eyes and sighed. "This day can't get any worse." I looked away and tried not to think about the fact that we were also wanted for assault on an officer... but she was already reading my thoughts. "Wait we're wanted?!" she exclaimed. "Well we did knock a police officer into a brick wall," I said. "We? You mean YOU," She said. I looked up and noticed the board with patients on it. "Hey, It's not like it was on purpose. Just wait here while I skim the board for her name," I said. "Fine. Just hurry up," she said. I walked up and looked through the names. There it was. Sofia Garcia in room 342. She had been admitted into the hospital for surgery. I had to find her before that man does. I walked away from the board and back to Jocelyn. "Did you find her?," Jocelyn asked. "Yeah but she's on the 3rd floor in room 342. The board says it's a surgery room." She closed her eyes and breathed heavily. "Alright. let's go," she said. I looked at her and gave her a shocked look. "Wow. You're finally agreeing with me?," I asked playfully. Jocelyn seemed like she was against this the whole time so it seemed weird she would change her mind all of a sudden. "Well it doesn't seem like you're going to let this go so I guess I'm in," she said. "Plus I can't let my long lost brother get murdered. Mom wouldn't be happy with me you know." I looked at her and smiled. "Well thanks," I said. We started around the corner to the elevators. Luckily the ER had multiple exits so we didn't run into any police on the way there. Once we made it onto the elevators I hit 3. The elevators creaked as they rose. "Alright. What's the plan?," Jocelyn asked. I looked at her and thought about it. "Okay. So I think we should just barge in and..." before I could finish she cut me off. "Teleport her from the surgery room?!," She exclaimed. "Jason... that is a bad idea. We can't just teleport her in the middle of surgery," She said. "Well we don't have time to wait around for them to finish." She leaned against the elevator wall. "Well what if he follows us again?" She asked. "This is all just too risky." I had no idea what to do. It seemed like we were going to have to improvise. I looked at Jocelyn and shook my head. "We'll figure it out. I just know we can't let him have her." I said. The elevator dinged and came to a stop on the 3rd floor and the doors opened. As they opened I looked ahead and saw The Man just standing there at the end of the hall. As I saw him he looked right and spotted us. I pointed and told Jocelyn to look. As I did that I saw black electricity start to circle him as he was looking at us. He was about to teleport. That's when I got a fast idea. I quickly grabbed Jocelyn's shoulder and waited for the electricity to circle us. "Wait what're you doi.." before she could finish that sentence I teleported us to the spot that The Man was just in. Once we teleported I turned around and saw that The Man had teleported to the spot we were just in... right in front of the elevators, just as I thought he would. Jocelyn turned around and looked too. "Oh my God. Nice quick thinking." "Thanks." I said. She started walking down the hallway looking for the right room number but something told me I should watch The Man and see what he does. Once I started watching him I seen him start to rub and feel the inside of the elevator like he was looking for something. Halfway through his inspection though he stood up as though he had found what he was looking for. Once he stood up the electricity came back as he prepared to teleport. That's when I realized... that's how he was tracking us. He could somehow feel where we teleported to by being where we teleported from. So the only way to lose him... was to not teleport. I started moving down the hallway to grab Jocelyn so we could hide into a room before he teleported right to our spot. I grabbed her and shoved her in the closet next to us. Then I came in behind her and closed the door. "What are you doing?" She asked. "Shhh!" I said as I put a finger over my mouth. That's when I heard electricity crackling in the hallway... and then it stopped. There was quietness for about 10 seconds... then I heard him say "I know you're here somewhere. If you just walk away from this... I won't kill you." I looked at Jocelyn and she looked at me. In our heads we both agreed that he was lying. He never said this back at the vacant market. He just attacked. "I attacked because you were in my way... just like you are right now." He said. He was in our heads! "If you don't want to die you'll walk away from this right now. And as a show of good faith I'm going to let you be. I'm going to go get Sofia and leave. If you decide to stand in my way again... I will kill you. That's a promise. Now go ahead and stay in that closet until I'm gone." Damn. He knew the whole time. Me and Jocelyn just stared at each other in shock and waited. A couple minutes went by and I finally started talking. "We've got to go get her." I said. Jocelyn looked at me with wide eyes. "What? Are you crazy!?" She asked. "There is no way I'm going to try and go get her after what he just said." I opened the door a jar just to peek out. I didn't see anyone. "Look... you're the one that said we need to save the world. If he's willing to kill us over her she's got to be part of this somehow. When he had me by my neck he said he was going to make me part of his collection. I think he's collecting people like us for some type of doomsday plan." I said. I opened up the door and stepped out. Jocelyn followed after me. "Now what if you're wrong?" she asked. I looked down the hallway and then looked down the other way. It was oddly empty. "If I'm wrong then at least we stopped a guy from kidnapping someone." I said. Jocelyn stood there looking at me. I could feel that she was feeling something she's not used to feeling. It was fear. "Jocelyn... you know it's the right thing to do. I know you might be scared but..." "No. I'm not scared I'm just hesitant." She said as she cut me off. She then took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "Alright. Let's do this." she said.
