Worthless (wərth-ləs) [adjective] - lacking value, without purpose or use.
I opened my eyes, and everything was white, after rubbing my eyes I began to hear familiar voices.
"Worthless piece of shit! All he does is screw everything up!" an angry man yelled. His voice felt like steel on the ears. Sharp and low which made the anger in his voice feel threatening.
"He's just a child, don't speak of him like that!" spoke a feminine voice that was the antithesis of the man's voice. Soft and smooth like vanilla her voice made the air around her light and warm.
"He's a disappointment and a failure just for having been born when he was! Tell me I'm wrong! If he were born an hour later, he would have been born under the Lion star! A Hero just like us!" Hearing this I realized why the man was so mad. His child could have been born on the night of a Lion star. Hero's each have unique magic abilities that no one else alive will have, making them the highest ranked class among all magicians.
I began to think of how I might feel if that were me, every single night the dominating star in the sky changes and no one can predict what constellation will shine brightest. The difference between being worthless and a prodigy can come down to the second of the hour you're born. It's unfair, but if I were that child. I would feel like fate itself had deemed me unworthy.
"Even if that's true, he still has opportunities, even as a Craw he can work for a-"
"Absolutely not!" The sound of glass shattering rang out. "No son of mine is a lowly servant!"
"Then I guess I'm not you're son!" Without even being aware of it my mouth opened and I said those words to the couple arguing in front of me. The white space in front of me started to fade into the wood frames of my childhood home, and the stone floor I stood on felt like it descended downwards as the adults in front of me grew, and I began to shrink. Oh, this is a memory, it's my memory. Why do I have to remember this, I don't want to-
"You piece of shit!" The man began to glow a shade of violet, and the taste of cider filled my mouth. Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked at him in horror and drew back my arms to defend myself. Then a loud slapping sound reached my ears. I looked up and saw that my mother had slapped him and he just turned around and left.
"He shouldn't have said that about you," my mother said as she began to rub my head gently.
I wanted to disagree. My father was right. Was I born an hour or so later, I could have been worth something. He's right; I am worthless. Despite this, I smiled and nodded at her. Don't let her worry. It's fine. A black cat started to trot into the room, and a massive sense of guilt hit me before everything in my surroundings turned white in a flash.
As everything faded into white, my father stood in the distance. I ran and reached out for him, but he slapped my hand away and then grabbed me by my shirt.
"Listen here you little shit! When your mother and I come back from this mission, you better be worth something! Or else I'll get rid of you like the garbage you are!" He dropped me down, and I stared at the empty white plain beneath me. Those words are the last I remember him saying.
Suddenly in front of me were assortments of magic books, studies on sciences, martial arts, medicine. The world began to swirl until I heard the sound of knocking at the door. Everything else around me faded to white except for this plain wooden door. I stared at it and began to cry; I knew what would happen if I answered it. My parents would die. I would lose everything the instant I twisted the knob. My feet started moving against my will.
"Stop it," I said to my legs, but they kept moving at the same pace bringing the door closer to me. "I said stop! Damn it!" I got closer and closer till eventually, my hand reached out to the knob of the door, and everything went black.

I felt intense pain all over the left side of my body and opened my mouth to scream, but furry paws stuck entered my mouth.
"Shhh, your left arm is completely broken, but we're alive. We don't have much time; we need to escape as soon as possible!" My sister spoke gently.
"Sorry. Crazy dream" I muttered half out of breath. "Okay, let's get ourselves out of this mess!"
