Chapter 23: New Life in a New World
Before, when I was playing Virtual MMO with Miharu, my cousin, I had promised myself that I would learn how to craft and not only focus on combats-only again.
I had also promised Miharu and Hotaru, another cousin of mine, that I would have learned how to make weapons for them, too.
In the Virtual MMO that I played with Miharu and Hotaru, I played as a Berserker Martial Arts. A Close and Mid-Range Combat specialist. I said that I played as a Berserker but truly, I use Martial Arts and Range weapons more often than using swords.
For Martial Arts, I used Hand-to-Hand combat. For Mid-range Combat, I use magic spells and range weapons, such as Short Bow and a whip. Of course, I also used a cub and baton sometimes. Rarely do I use Swords and Blade. But when I do, let's just say that Miharu called me the Demon King of Swords for a reason.
And since I was so damn focusing on combat, the only other thing in games that I ever took the time to do was cooking and alchemy.
And these are Virtual Reality Games, which have their times slow down into a ratio of either 1 to 4 ratio or 1 to 5 ratio. And most of the games that I played, it was with a time ratio of 1 to 5 ratio, with one hour in real life being 5 hours in-game time.
And even then, I made a name for myself as one of the top 10 players/adventurers, within these games. This was mainly due to my combat experiences and adventures.
So, combat experiences weren't something that I am short on. But, it wasn't something that I have a great deal of understanding with either. As I tend to go overboard and lose my senses when I get too excited.
So for now, I might want to spend my time wisely.
For now, I guess I could choose those that I need right now.
Magic training, cooking and alchemy research, weapons crafting, Beast Research, Magical tool Research, leatherworks, woodworks, Arts, Farming, Synthesis, Space Magic training, and Space Magic Crafting. And as time goes on, if I find something else interesting, then maybe I might cross-research them, too.
For the next 20 years... these are the things that I wanted to at least have a clearer understanding of. Well, aside from the general and common knowledge of this world. That is.
For now, I shall make some goals for myself.
"Nanako, for now, could you help me set up some goals for me? I want 10 short goals and 10 long-term goals. The short term being from one week to one month reachable and long term care for a month to years long." I said to Nanako.
[Of course, Host]
[Please list out your top 10 short-term goals]
"Training the 9 Elemental Magic to level 3 within a month."
"Training my Cooking and Alchemy Skills into level 5 within a month."
"Make sure that I learn how to farms and cultivates in this world,"
"Learned to craft some weapons, even if it's only Wood and Stone."
"Research how Beast Magic and how Summoning Magic works,"
"Learn how to make use of the Magic Potion Knowledge"
"Practice the Combat Book that Bellaphor-sama gives me, every day for 1-2 hours."
"Interacts with Felesa and Gutza daily, trained with them in this forest, if needed."
"Arts - I need to make sure that I don't go crazy. So, always reminded me to do some Arts. Be it Architecture, Sculpture, Painting, Music, or Literal Arts. At least once a day for a couple of minutes."
"Learn to fucking damn hunt in real life!"
[Goals registered.]
[Please States Long Term Goal]
... Long terms are harder. Let's see, for now...
"Get used to living in this world."
"Continue Magic training."
"Continue with Martial Arts training,"
"Continue with Combat Training,"
"Trained all Magic Elements to Level 10."
"Life Peacefully and Carefreely."
"For now, make those the priority. I don't know what other goals I have,"
"Nanako, do you have access to my Inventory Box?"
[No, Host. Nanako does not and can not have access to your Inventory Box. It needs a Level S System to be able to gain access to your Inventory Box. Nanako is only a Level A System.]
"..." I see. I was thinking that if she has access to it then, it would have been great if she could help me keep track of what is in it.
That's okay, I guess. I got used to keeping a neat Inventory in games already so I shouldn't have too much trouble with Inventory Management. It was just that this Inventory Box was a bit far too mind-blowing in terms of space available and the items in there were far too far-reaching.
Not only that, the things inside it were far too much. I mean, come on! It's like Gaiana-sama had robbed one or ten Armory Warehouses from two or more Army/Military bases! Or just copy and replicates it from the Armory Warehouse! Better yet, are you sure that those aren't from somewhere else?!
I don't want to turn into a no-good human who doesn't know how to rely on himself. If I take advantage of the things inside the Inventory Box, then I wouldn't be able to do anything if something prevented me from accessing the Inventory. And that might kill me, literally and figuratively.
And that is a fucking damn no.
I hate losing. Even in games. No, especially in games. In the virtual games that I played before, I had never died before. The most near-death experience that I had in games was when I was fighting against a horde of Dragon and nearly killed myself from it. I literally have only 1 HP left by the time that I killed all of the dragons.
I don't plan on dying in this world, either. Not before I can find the way back home. My Niisan-tachi is currently going through a very serious phase in their lives right now. They don't need my disappearance to cause more stress in their lives.
Which means that I really do need to get my training done.
Tomorrow, I will start. Tonight, I need to sleep.
"Nanako, wake me up if anyone or thing approaches here," I instructed the system.
[Of course, host]
Usually, I only sleep for 6 hours per night since I was pretty busy with my college research and playing games, but I am not sure how long I will sleep in this world.
Oh well.
The next morning I woke up to the faces of two large beasts spawning inside my bedroom. I was sleeping on a hard rock floor but... weirdly enough, I don't feel any discomfort at all.
"Master, you're awake~" A somewhat young but not quite young, yet still slightly mature voice greeted me as soon as I woke up.
I blinked, oh. "You're here, Felesa?" The Fenrir that Adala-sama said that he's going to give me as a Beast Companion is here. This means- yep, Gutza was also here. The Lightning Thunder Hawk.
"Good Morning, you two." Both beasts are very huge. Felesa was a Fenrir, which was a kind of Holy Wolves that works as God's messages. Felesa was pure white with seven strikes of Blue going from the tip of his head to the tip of his tails, yes, Tails. His eyes are pure blue with his eyelashes being pure white. His nose was bright red, though.
As for Gutza, he is one of the Highest Grade of Hawk, the Lightning Thunder Hawk. His father was a Holy Hawk that controlled Lightning for the rainy season while his mother was a High-Grade Thunderhawk- making him one of the rarest Hawk serving the gods. He has two pairs of wings and a very long tail that shaped out into the shape of a thunderbolt division like thunder lightning. On his forehead, there were five black strokes of lines going all the way to his neck and then back, into a spiral pattern on his back. His feathers were dark blue with some of them being silver in color.
I don't know how it was possible for me to see their colors this clearly since it is pretty dark inside here but... well, I guess this is due to my new eyesight?
"Master~" Gutza, who seems to be more mature and older than Felesa, greeted me as he bowed his head.
I pat his head in return.
Oh? I could already feel the connection between the three of us. Since the two beasts aren't Summoned Monsters from my magic, I didn't think that I could feel their connection this deeply.
"Mou- Master~" Felesa pouted as he also put his head to my reaches.
Wow, so soft! "Your fur is really soft and silky!" I said as I continued to pat both of their heads. I just continue to pat Their heads for a while as I let myself indulge in the softness of their feathers and fur.
Okay, enough. I pushed them away as I got up and stretched my body.
I do a couple of light stretches to get my blood flows but... weird, why didn't I feel any satisfaction from it?
Ah, the Physical Pain Resistance! Damn it!!! Without pain, where would I feel any satisfaction from exercising now?!!
Oh well. For now, I would like to take a bath but my water system inside my home isn't finished yet. In fact, I haven't even started working on it!
I open the door and check the surroundings outside. Hmm, good. The weather was really nice today. Temperature is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit? The wind is around 10 km/hour to the southwest. Okay, it's nice.
I measure out a space of 10 steps away from my door and then another 10 steps to the right, and put a large X there. I plan on making a bathing area here. After that, I also measure out another 20 steps to the left from that X and put a Large O. This was for my 'number 2' area.
Hmm, what's my Earth Magic level now?
"Status," I said out loud as I checked the feeling of the earth underneath my feet.

Oh? What is this? Cooking Level 10, I can understand since I cook for myself and my brothers a lot but... Housekeeping? Am I that much of a neat freak? I don't think so...
After all, my own apartment in New York wasn't always clean! It's true, though, that I always clean my house every day as a form of meditation. Since researching was very stressful- mainly due to the amount of paperwork that comes with it, I would always try to keep my own house clean.
And oh, earth magic is now level 2. Well, that made sense. I had just used earth magic to make my own home.
For now, I will just build an area for bathing.
A 1-meter deep rectangular shape area was carved out. The width and length was 2 meters by 4 meters. I used the earth that I carved out from the hole and made a staircase next to the other side. Next, I used the extra earth and hardened it into blocks, and lined them up surrounding the hole. Then, I went inside my cave/home and took out the blocks of rocks that I carved out from the inside of my home. Using the rock, some earth, clay, granite, and magic, I turned those materials into something similar to marble-stone-concretes.
With magic, it was extremely easy to build the wall of the soon-to-be bath tube of my bathhouse. Of course, I had to make drainage holes for the water to go outside.
After that, I practice my Water Magic by continuously invoking water elemental magic.
Turns out that each basic spell costs 8-10 mana constantly. However, I have 40,000 in mana alone. My regeneration rate for mana was also at 50 points per minute. This means that it would be hard for me to exhaust my capacity of mana, making it hard for me to train my limitation intake of mana.
Due to this problem, I used Both Fire and Water Spell at the same time. Which cost 50 Mana points instead. This caused the water that I invoked to be boiling hot.
Each time that I invoked a spell, the amount of water that I got larger and larger in quantity. From one gallon to ten gallons and soon enough, at the 50th time, the water amount increased three times over.
"... Well, this is interesting," I said to myself as I watched the water in my new bathtub draining away. Still, the water was too hot, so I tried to cool it down using a water magic spell that changed its temperature property.
"Cool Down," A spell that changed the water temperature at the cost of 3 mana points.
... At this rate, it would be nightfall before I ran out of mana...
Felesa and Gutza watch me practicing my magic a bit from a distance away. They both were looking completely surprised and shocked at what I am doing but they didn't make a sound. Seeing that they aren't going or doing anything, I left the two beasts alone as I continue to work on my magic control.
Ahhh, this isn't an efficient way to train at all!
Still, I guess this can't be helped. I am just starting to get to the feeling of mana leaving me and how fast my body recovered by drawing in mana from outside. Instead of worrying about that, why not try to train my control instead.
As the water filled up again, I changed the temperature before opening the drainage holes, which led to the river nearby.
I repeated this a couple of times before I started feeling bored.
Just as I was going to stop practicing Fire and Water for the day, I got a new notification.
The voice was from this world Core, Voice of the World. It sounds like nothing and everything at the same time. Emotionally and yet totally indifferent too. What a weird feeling.
[Congratulations on Advancing your Water and Fire Elemental Magic to the Next Level.]
That voice wasn't from Nanako. I knew it likes how I knew that taking the road to my school on a certain day will be a disaster waiting to happen. I knew it likes how I knew the answers to a math problem that doesn't have enough information. I knew it likes how I knew that my brothers loved each other...
And that's how I knew that this voice cannot reply back.
It is a one-way communication, only.
I checked my status again, only to see it slightly different than before. Before, it was only one page, as it shows everything.
However, now, it looks like this;

Right now, the chart has divided into tabs. The Status that shows that I am healthy has been changed into Condition. While the qi has separated from mana and changed into Spirit.
... hmmm...
What is this ominous foreshadowing that I'm feeling? Spirit huh... Don't tell me that this world has Chinese Xuanhuan or Xiaxian influence? Please don't, I seriously don't need it.
I was already a bit biased(like a lot) against Chinese users in games, if I was sent into a world with Chinese magic or fantasy influences then yeah, I am so going to be very distrusted toward anyone there. Shaking my head, I shook away those thoughts. Now wasn't a good time to think of such things.
For now, let's eat.
Let's see if there are any small games near me that I can hunt for practice. I really don't want my martial arts skills to rust too.
"Search, set limits to small animals," I said as I brought up my Searching magic.
Oh? It's showing the small animals... but... what's with these tiny purple dots. I clicked on it... and... Shit. That's a small animal alright. But it ain't weak.
That's a fucking damn magical bird, a level 280 magical bird!
[Plastreel Pharma Bird, Level 280, Boss-Class]
Huh? What's this marked at the end of the analysis... I clicked on the marker that looked like an upside-down' i' but with a line struck through it.
------ Information------
The Plastreel Pharma Bird. Rank B.
-A rare magic class bird that likes to eat magical insects in the Forest of Ignamita. Harmless to humans and other races but due to its innate magical freshness meats, humans tend to hunt them as a medicinal ingredient. Its eggs are pure purple with a large amount of medicinal property inside. Eating the eggs or the freshness of the Plastreel Pharma Bird can increase a person's innate magical capacity.
Summoning Compatibility: Rank S
Laying Time: Once every 3 weeks to 3 months.
Age: 290 years
Number of human killed: 10,538
Number of Beast/Monster Killed: 263,645
Personality/Mood: Wild, Lonely, Lovesick, Heartbroken, Seeking Mate
Gender: Male
Personal Information: This Plastreel Pharma Bird isn't a normal one. It likes Male birds instead of Female birds, so it scares off any and all potential mates.
------ End of Information ------
... what?
Didn't it say that it was harmless toward humans? Then how did it get ten thousand human kills counts?
And wait... this bird was a male bird so how could it lay eggs?!
And what happened to all its eggs?! It's also seeking mates?!
Okay, for now. Let's ignore him but keep an eye on him as I hunted other animals first.
I found some Horned Rabbits, who looked oddly vicious and bloodthirsty.
The Rabbits in this world were oddly large. It seems that I really need to read the books that Bellaphor-sama gave me.
For now, I went toward the location that this one Horned Rabbit was at... Since I don't have any weapon or tool yet, I could only use cheated tactics.
I hid my presence, making sure that I was facing away from the wind direction, and used earth magic underneath the rabbit to dig out a hole. I have to be fast because I don't want the rabbit to move. After that, I quietly and naturally wet the ground that the Horned Rabbit was standing on.
Within one second, I use water magic and make a spear-like- arrow on top of the rabbit's head, quietly. I made sure to control my mana so that the rabbit won't feel the change of the airflow or the mana flow surrounding it. Next, I froze the water and let it drop into the Horned Rabbit's head.
Of course, as I expected, the spear of ice didn't do anything to the rabbit. However, what I needed wasn't for it to kill the rabbit, it was for the weight of the spear to weigh it down. Within a split of a second, the rabbit gave a surprised jerk as it tried to move.
However, it found the ground underneath it collapsed instead. The Horned Rabbit's reaction speed could be considered fast, but it wasn't fast enough due to the suddenness of the situation. Causing it to drop into the hole even if it reacted fast enough. I closed off the hole and topped the rest off with more earth.
Making sure to push down the earth and formed it into a sharp spike, I successfully killed my first creature.
Deep| Horned Rabbit Killed, Gain 18 Experiences| Deep|
"Eh? Was that you? Nanako?"
[Yes, Host. That voice is my automatic voice. If it annoyed you, please say "System Notification Turned off Killing Notification,"] Nanako said.
Well, how games like. This will only make it harder for me to fully accept this world as a reality, you know?
"System Notification Turned Off Killing Notification," I said with a sigh.
[Confirmation please.] Nanako said.
[Confirmed it.]
[It is done, host.]
"Thanks,"
I said that as I lifted up the earth to discover a beheaded Horned Rabbit... Wait, Beheaded? It wasn't a crushed-headed rabbit but a beheaded rabbit? What's going on?
Ah, that spike must've landed on the neck of the rabbit, huh.
I let the blood drain from the neck area into the hole before putting the rabbit into my Inventory- the Inventory Box I meant- under a new Tab. I named the New Tab under "Food in Woruim," and went back home. On the way back, I hunted another five more Horned Rabbits for Felesa and Gutza, too.
In virtual reality games, the crafting profession was really deep. Some games didn't make it deep but those games aren't famous at all as they were for a more carefree aspect. However, the games that I played with my cousins were known for their in-depth crafting systems. So, skinning, dismantling, and cutting up animals was something that I am used to due to my cooking skill in-game. I am counting on these experiences as the bases for my skills in this world.
However, there was a problem as soon as I got back home.
What problem?
I have no tool and equipment! I don't plan on using the things from the Inventory at all so I have to create my own.
Well, that's fine. I had created them before in a game with the Carpentry Skills in games so I have no problem with it.
"Felesa, could you please help me cut down a couple of large trees?" I asked her.
"Of course, master~" She answered happily as she walked into the dense part of the forest.
Gutza was more mature but I can feel from our connection that he's pouting.
"Gutza, could you help me collect some dried firewood?" I asked. Those two companions from Adala-sama sure are adorable.
"Yes, Master." He answered as he happily flew off.
A couple of minutes later, Gutza came back first with two large dried tree logs and dropped it off in front of the cave.
"Thank you, Gutza," I said as I patted the hawk on his head.
"~Master~" Gutza happily chipped as he blissfully closed his eyes and enjoyed my touch. After a couple more seconds, I stopped patting him and went to the area to the left of my door. I make 3 meters by 5 meters rectangular area into the cliff. This will be for my firewood storage area.
As I don't know how often and when the rainy season is going to come in this part of the world, I don't plan on compromising my firewood due to lack of preparation and cautiousness. I learned this the hard way when I was playing online games with Miharu and the team. That time, I was being very naive and didn't prepare any firewood, causing the whole party to nearly froze to death at that dungeon.
After that, I chopped the dried log using wind magic. This way, not only do I get to practice my magic, but I also get to practice my control over how much mana I use, too.
The log of the dried trees that Gutza brought back was abnormally hard. So I used a lot more mana than when I did for water magic.
50 Mana points per usage of a spell, from now on, I am going to call it MP for short, could only cut about 2 inches deep of the tree log. So, by the time that I had successfully cut the cut into blocks, I had used nearly 2000 MP.
I wonder what these trees are?
"Appraisal," I said with a hint of curiosity.
[Mutated Fire Heaven Thunder Oak Tree Log]
The dried log of the Heaven Thunder Oak Tree had failed to evolve.
Great for woodworking and firewood.
Burn time 16 hours per grams
Please be careful when using this firewood - Very strong flames.
It said. Just to test the so-called strong flame, I picked out a very small fuzz of wood from the log and lit it up with a lighter from my Inventory Space.
Whoosh!!!
"!!!" I nearly burned my hair!
Shit!
The fire was not that hot but the flame was very strong. The flame was green in color and its burn time was slightly long for only a piece of shaved wood. I nodded in satisfaction. A light smile was spreading on my face. I can feel both Gutza and Felesa's eyes on me as I move toward the logs and breathe out loud in relief that I didn't accidentally set those on fire too. Although, how a normal fire made from a lighter was able to light up these kinds of wood was a lost cause to me.
After that, I will continue doing the same for the other logs and turn it all into chop-able log blocks. Halfway through, I paused as I recalled something.
In the past, when we were playing games, Miharu and Souichirou were making out while I was monitoring the crafting procedure for a magic weapon that Miharu was supposed to make. Due to me not being a crafter, while I was controlling Miharu's character, I accidentally crafted a large Five-Shape Axes- the one and only one to have ever been crafted in the game. Causing Miharu's character level to shoot up very high. Since this game wasn't a virtual game, it was possible for me to play as Miharu with a keyboard and finger-gloves. So, Miharu forced a promise out of me that the next time that we play VRMMO, I would choose a crafter profession as a Second class.
This suddenly gave me an idea.
I took out the book that Bellaphor gave me about magic combat in this world and turned to the back index.
I searched for one keyword in particular.
Ah, there. Page 739. I see. I see. So I can do that.
I took out a block of granite from my inventory and followed the direction from the Book. First of all, the shape of the granite and the hardness must be changed. Then, the magic inside it must be fused. After that, the crafting image...
In ten seconds, a stone ax landed on my hand.
[Host, you have successfully gained the ability to do Stonecraft.] Nanako said.
I ignored that notification as I use appraisal on the stone ax with excitement.
__ Magical Formed Stone Axe __
A stone ax made by a beginner in Magic Crafting. This stone ax was made through Synthesis so it has a little bit of magic enforcement in it.
Damage Base: 12, with magic, infuse +40 Additional Damage
Mana Cost: 10-40 MP per magic usage
Duration: 200/200
Requirement: Strength above 50
Base Price: 17 Silver Coin-20 Silver Coin (17,000-20,000 Rhis )
______
Hmm, not bad for my first weapon crafting through Synthesizing.
I hold the ax and give it a small swing toward the cliff.
Crack!
Eh?!
...Oi...
A large slash mark appeared on the cliff!
Oi-oi-oi! This is a little too powerful! But it might be because I swing it a little too hard? Okay, try it again but with lesser strength. Right? Right? It's because I used too much strength, right?!
I slashed it a couple more times while trying to not feel nervous and failing miserably at it. Each time with different strengths and found one to my liking. Okay, this one is good for chopping wood. In fact, this ax might be a bit too strong to be used as a woodchopper.
I use the appropriate amount of strength and continue to train my strength. It won't be good if I don't even know my own strength.
Felesa came back after another 20 minutes with 20 large logs of wood. He didn't carry it like Gutza because he has a space bag necklace that the Beast God, Adala-sama, gave him.
I stopped chopping the wooden log as I turned toward the logs that Felesa placed on the ground. The logs were from fresh and alive trees so it wasn't dried. Some corners still have left on them. Although, these woods were oddly straight and very oddly similar to the Japanese maple trees that were planted around my apartment in New York... Yet, just from the leaves that were still on the trunks of these logs, those leaves aren't maple leaves.... It looks more like the leaves of the hyacinth bean, which was not even a tree but rather a twining vine with trifoliate leaves.
But these logs are tree logs.
"Appraisal,"
[Purpled Wintergreen Tree Logs]
Freshly cut Purpled Wintergreen Tree Log
Great for crafting
Great for decoration purposes
The seeds of the Purpled Wintergreen could be used as a catalyst for oil quenching
The fruit of the Purpled Wintergreen Tree is well-liked by phantom beasts.
Hoh? Interesting.
I have to use wood magic and fire magic to dry it up first. This is just another way for me to train my magic control so I have no problem doing such a task.
Once the wood was dried, I used Synthesis to turn it into planks and poles for me. I used the stone ax as my tool to make the joint of the logs. Soon enough, I created three tables and two wooden beds for Felesa and Gutza. Since the inside of my home was large enough for the two beasts, I placed their beds inside and placed the tables outside for replacement as a cooking countertop.
Good. Next, I use the stone block that I already had inside my Inventory along with some of the woods that Felesa bought back, and make spoons, forks, chopsticks, ladles, spatulas, knives, plates, bowls, and other stonewares. Since I have never made them before using stone, I failed a couple of times each time that I created a new item but it was fun so I didn't really mind.
"M-master, please don't smile like that~," Felesa said as he placed his head on the ground with his paws over it.
"???" What's wrong with my smile? It's not like my smiles are scary, right?
"Master, your charisma was too high so it caused Felesa to be shocked," Gutza said with a voice slightly dazed.
"... Get used to it," I said as I continue to work. What the fuck is with my charisma being too high?! I usually try to hide my presence so that it doesn't affect other people's luck, okay?! What charisma are you talking about?!
Ignore it! Don't think about it!
3 hours later I had to pause my work. Weird, I feel hungry but it wasn't enough to stop me from working... Still, I think that it's best if I stop now and make something to eat. It's already 1 in the afternoon.
I made a couple of quick stone stoves with an oven and cooked some of the Horned Rabbit for me and the two beasts... Although, I forgot to put salt and pepper on it so it wasn't as good. And yet, due to the soft meat that literally melted inside my mouth, I didn't complain about the food that I cooked.
Both Felesa and Gutza were also happily eating it too.
"Wow, master~ A level 10 Stars Horned Rabbit! I didn't know that your cooking level was this high!" Felesa said with stars in her eyes as she continued to devour the second Horned Rabbit.
"Eh?" I checked my cooking level and indeed, it was very high. However, it wasn't level 10. Weirdly enough, it had jumped 20 level without me even noticing it.
So now, my cooking level was 30, not 10 as before. When in the world did this change?
[It changed when you finished making the stone oven, host] Nanako's voice answered me.
[The stone oven that you made was very sturdy and stable, with no flaws in it. So the experiences that you gain went toward your cooking level instead of your stonework level.]
Okay....? Why?
[This was decided by this world's Consciousness.]
"..."
My luck... I sighed internally as I continued to bite on my horned rabbit.
Hmmm! Yummy!
