Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 0

Pramisha,

I have never been the type to indulge in the high school life. People are always so caught up their own drama that they don't see the real problems in the world.

At school, students always seem to gravitate toward the attractive people and put them on pedestals. Once they're on pedestal, though, they start hating them, creating drama with them, getting jealous or experiencing envy when they see them walking down the halls with their equally as attractive partner and friends.

Like I said, I've never been one to dive in that kind of lifestyle. I don't see the point of being popular or being wanted, it's just doesn't make sense.

Every morning I by black truck in the parking lot and there they are. Sometimes they look but I don't think they see.

Bikram is the owner of the truck. He has these beautiful light brown eyes that'll get you melt any day of the week.

Sishir and Sujata are the fraternal twins and the prettiest of the group. I think their similar but different looks compliment each other.

Abishek and his cheerleader girlfriends have always been the talk of the school since freshman's year just because they've been on and off like switch.

Manoj is the one that nobody really knows about, he's kind of just there sometimes, doesn't like talking to many people.

And finally of course, you always have to save the best for last, Nabin. He is the leader of the group but he doesn't know it. He has all the girls falling to his feet but he chooses to do nothing about it.

Juna and Sujata are even bowing to kiss his feet and nobody knows how he does it. He doesn't have dimples, he doesn't have colored eyes, nothing that every girl is obsessed with these days but somehow he still grabs the attention of everyone that passes him, even me.

I've never talked to any of them, maybe exchanged a few words with Abishek but that's it. I've never had classes with any of the rest, until this year of course. In August, I found out that Nabin and I shared the same English class. Yet, because of his friends, I don't think he knows I exist. Not that I care though.

My friend, Kriti, is a girl I met when I first started high school here at Westside. She's always been around and I kind of just let her. Kriti didn't have any friends here on the first day of school freshman year so when we met in one of our classes she kind of just stuck. She's been the one who's completely submerged in the drama of irrational drugged up teens. Kriti tells me everything from who's screwing who to who's the baby daddy of who's baby. She never knows when to stop talking and mind her own business but I let her do her and in return she let me do mine.

Speaking of Kriti, as I walk through the front doors of the school building, I see her sitting in the commons scrolling on her phone. Like normal, she's by herself and I sit down next to her. " You are finally here", Kriti presses the power button on her phone and smiles at me.

"Yeah I'm here", I look up at the large clock on the wall and read the time, "I am here ten minutes earlier than I normally come".

"I know but I've been here since seven. My mom dropped me off early", Kriti tucks her phone in her bag and puts it next to her. She leans in close and starts whispering,"So did you hear that Juna supposedly cheated on Abishek with a player from the basketball team?"

"Really? That's interesting,"My tone doesn't come across as interested and Kriti takes the hint pretty fast.

"Okay, what about this..." She looks around and spots the entire "cool kids club" - as Kriti likes to call them- walking in,"Oh my gosh, I almost forgot. It's rumored that Nabin and his ex, Ruska, are on talking terms again. Someone said that the other day, he left his phone on his desk and they saw a message from her on the screen".

I raise my eyebrows art her claim and she smiles devilishly,"I knew that would capture your interest. Now tell me, what do you think about Nabin?"

"I don't think anything", I shrug but Kriti doesn't take that as an answer.

"C'mon Pramisha, stop being like that," She nudges me a little bit with her shoulder before continuing on,"Please just talk to me."

Nabin and his friends are walking this way and I don't think it's a good idea to talk about them right i front of their faces. " I'll give you my opinion after they walk by". The both of us watch as they pass, Kriti o course star struck by whatever it is she thinks they have.

"Did you see that?" Kriti squeals, trying to keep her voice down. They have already passed by but that doesn't mean they can't hear us, especially with the surround sound these walls provide."Bikram winked at me. Oh my gosh, Bikram Mahat winked at me. I have to tell someone. Who should I tell?" Kriti brown eyes look at me dead on my one and she grabs my shoulders to emphasize her statement,"Bikram Mahat winked at me.'

"I am happy for you." I am not sure what to answer that with. What if he just had an eye twitch? Or maybe even a dust particle flew in his eyes and it was bothering him? Or maybe he really did wink at her. Kriti isn't an ugly girl, if anything, she's the type to hang out with those kids. I'm pretty sure she's known them all for long time, everyone in this city seems to know everyone somehow.

"Yes, yes, be proud, he actually noticed me for the first time since eighth grade! And that was the day he asked me if he could borrow my phone to call his mom to pick him up." She slumps down and rest her chin on her fist,"His mom didn't answer so my mom and i ended up giving him a ride home and he invited me to go to the mall but my mom said no, so we never talked again."

"Just because you didn't accept his hangout offer?" I feel my lips turning up into a smile but I try to force the laugh down, this is what they worried about when they were fourteen? People not being able to gjo to mall? I wish I had it that easy.

"Yes," Kriti replies, talking her phone out of her back and looking at time,"The bell is going to ring soon, I think I should get going."

I nod as Kriti slings her bag over her shoulder,"I'll see you at launch Pramisha." She smiles brightly as she backs away and then turns around to walk towards her class. By the time I decide to get up to go to class, the bell is just ringing and the building is quickly filling with students. Everybody travels in a blur and soon, I'm surrounded by my first period classmates.
