Far from the compound, in a deserted flatland, a small car can be seen driving away. Inside lies a unconscious man, unperturbed by his surroundings.
Two days later, the man awakens, but heavily disoriented. As the tranquilizer effect slowly fades away, the man's mind and slowly regains control of the body. He reaches over and stops the car. Due to habit, the man immediately observes his environment.
"What is this place? It looks like a wasteland. And why am I in a car?" he mumbles to himself.
His next action was to find his location. He checked the cars computer only to find a screen that said 'No GPS Signal Acquired.'
Suddenly there was a massive headache that assailed the man. He held his head and gritted his teeth.
'Fucking hell, this pain shouldn't come from a headache.' he thought. 'Alright, let me reassess my situation.'
"My name is William- hmm, I can't remember my last name. My job was that of a soldier, wait, ex-soldier. The last thing that I was doing was talking to...the..... gen..eral..."
William finally realized, or he remembered that the general had stabbed him with some kind of heavy tranquilizer and sent him here.
'But for what?' William thought, 'I shouldn't be a soldier anymore, this can't be a mission. It can't be...'
He got out of the car to have a better observation of his new surroundings. He only had one word to describe it.
"Wasteland, it's an absolute wasteland..."
Chuckling to himself he re-entered the car to be greeted with a message 'GPS Signal Acquired.'
"Well that's some good luck..." He mumbled. "At least the car is powered by solar, who knows how I would be able to return to a city if the car ran out of fuel."
He opened the map to discover that he had crossed the border into a neighboring country. Not like near the border, but deep inside a hostile country.
'Well hopefully my intrusion doesn't go against the temporary ceasefire. Worst case scenario I can call myself a refugee or something. But I should avoid going into the nearby cities, why look for trouble?'
With his location identified, William's alert level went down by one. He has some information regarding his location, but his safety is still questionable. He also needs to obtain a food source. What's the best way to find food? Water, follow the water and the food will follow.
'Hmm, there's a stream that's very close to the landfill, I have to check which direction the stream goes. If it goes away from the landfill, the water is to dangerous to drink, if it goes towards the landfill, it should be safe to drink.'
30 minutes later, a car approaches a very large stream.
"What stream, this is a fucking river." William exclaimed, "As usual, their naming sense is very unique. At least the stream is flowing toward the landfill, if I boil it, the water should be consumable. I also saw some wild animals on my way here, I should go hunting soon."
///Sunset///
"That fire should last the night. Just in time as well. No luck in hunting, the only thing I could find food wise was the case of MRE's in the trunk of the car, it should last me 3-4 days, probably 2-3 weeks if I stretch it out. The best thing I got are the water purification tablets and matches. 16 tablets should give me 32 liters of clean water, and 4 packs of matches can last me 3 months."
After discovering the rations and it's utensils, a large weight had been lifted off of William's shoulders.
Sitting against the tree, William once again tried to make sense of what has happened to him.
"I retired from being a soldier, I was talking to the General, then he tranquilized me, and now I'm here. But why do I feel like I missed something very important? What is missing? My name is William Belran, and I have a wif-"
Suddenly another headache invaded his mind.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH FUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!"
A pain which no living being alive descended on William, nearly shredding apart his consciousness. He tossed and turned, clutching his head in fetal position. The pain stayed with him no matter what he did, even bashing his head against the trees didn't help him ignore the pain. For the longest five minutes of his life, pain tortured him. When the pain subsided, his eyes where blank, lifeless almost. Tears were flowing down, mixing with the blood that spilled when he hit his head against the trees. The wasteland was completely silent. Previously you could hear small animal cries and the flow of water, but now, it seemed that the world had been affected by the shrill cries.
William laid there, lifelessly untill his body drifted asleep, merging with the silence. As if the shrill and despaired crying never happened.
