A young mother ran through the streets with her new baby clutched in her tiny arms. Rain burst out of the clouds like explosions, and although she could barely see she kept running. She knew if she stopped, she`d never make it. Her instincts guided her through the dark streets, to an old orphanage. The same orphanage she had been raised in. She knew this day would come, but knowing didn't make anything any easier. She gently took the baby out of her cloak and looked into the purple eyes that mirrored her own. The baby started to cry, she didn't like the cold rain and longed to be to be back in protection of mother`s cloak.
"Shhh. You`re okay. You`ll be safe here." Tears streamed down her face. She hugged her daughter close and kissed her ears, something her foster mother had done to her when she was a little girl. "I love you. I`ll find you I promise." She heard an evil growl. She stayed quiet and held her baby close to ease her crying. The rain helped to mask their smell. She quietly knocked on the door, knowing it was not loud enough. She quickly looked around to see if there was another way to get her baby inside. She couldn't climb, and there were no unlocked doors. She pulled off her cloak and wrapped it around the child. The baby started to cry again, there came a rough bark from somewhere in the rain. The young mother gently kissed her baby one more time.
"When you come home, I`ll find you." And with that, she put the baby on the top step, covered from the rain. She turned around and ran into the night. She was tempted to turn back around when her baby started screaming, but when she heard steps behind her, she knew she had done the right thing. She took her attacker as far away from her child as she could, before she began her fight.
An old nun sleeping on the first floor heard the screaming baby and took her inside. She gave her a warm bath and dry clothes. She lay four pillows close together and covered the make-shift bed with three blankets and placed the baby in the center. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get back to sleep. She couldn't help but stare at the baby. What about her was so different than any other child.
