Chapter 2 - Bloodline

"The radiance is mesmerizing is it not?"

Virgil quickly turned to the source of the voice, it was a young woman in what seemed to be a priestess outfit.

"Almost like a drug, why is that?" Virgil asked, with endless questions coming to mind such as where he was, why he was in a hospital, who she was, they came like a flood after seeing another human being.

"It's called hope, in a world with none left to spare. Anyone barring the hunters mark is drawn to hope like moth to flame, in hopes of escaping this accursed dream." The woman said, whilst touching the lamp as if it were some thousand year old artifact.

"Dream..?" Virgil asked, he wondered if he were really dreaming. He knew who he himself was but could not force even the slightest memories from where or who he was prior to waking up. He understood the language they spoke which indeed was English, but he has no memory of learning it. It was hard to explain but he knew there was more to this world than him simply waking up because things felt... wrong.

"No matter, I'm Iosefka. The maiden over this hospital as well as this lamp. You may not understand things now but in due time you will, I promise you that. Do you know what kind of hunter you are um..?"

"Virgil, Virgil Whimsyshire. I honestly don't even know what you mean by hunter, never mind what kind I am."

"Follow me." Iosefka asked, whilst beckoning with her hands to continue back up the staircase.

Upon arriving back to the room she asked him to take a seat on a chair near a table with different tools near it for what seemed to be for transfusing blood.

"Every hunter has different stats upon entering the dream world. All can be allocated to what the hunter pleases with the help of a maiden and a blood sample of the hunter, may I?" She requested his hand, and whilst hesitant he gave her his hand.

She slowly removed a small needle from her dress that seemed to be hidden in her sleeve and quickly poked a small hole into Virgil's finger tip and pulled out a small piece of leathery paper. It seemed to be made of something similar to skin, but seemed almost fresh. Virgil didn't bother asking as he didn't want an answer in the first place. She rolled the paper up and put his drop of blood on the tip of the scroll and whispered what seemed to be prayer. The scroll then glowed a bright crimson red and then dimmed down to nothing again, she then placed the scroll onto Virgil's hand.

"Open it, it will state your level as well as current stats. You may share if you have questions or concerns but I typically don't like to just take your stats for my own information, some hunters are quite personal with such matters."

Virgil lifted a brow wondering what even just happened, but opened the scroll and it read as follows,

Hunter: Virgil V. Whimsyshire

Insight: 0

St: 8

Sk: 8

Bl: 12

Ar: 4

Title: Unknown.

"None of this makes sense." Virgil said whilst handing her the piece of what's hopefully paper.

"May I?" She asked before opening it.

"Just clarify please, what it all means. I couldn't care less how personal it's supposed to be." Virgil sighed, he didn't even care for what the paper meant, he just wanted to remember something. Anything prior to being here but couldn't, and it was beginning to frustrate him a great amount.

"As for the basics on this scroll, these four here-" as she pointed at the 'St, Sk, Bl, Ar'.

"Are abbreviations for strength, skill, bloodtinge, and arcane. These stats will allow you to use different kinds of weapons or spells depending on what you spend your bloodlines genes on."

"My bloodline genes?"

"Every hunter has a bloodline they decend from, this is the unique properties your blood possesses that is passed down through your family. Your genes bend and twist this bloodline, making yours not exactly the same as your parents and predecessors thus becoming more and more different throughout the families generations. These said genes can be freely manipulated here in the dream by us maidens to make your bloodline to what you desire, but only within the realm of possibilities of your original bloodline. This avoids hunters from having duplicates of each others powers."

"And how do I know what my 'bloodline' is exactly?"

"That's simple, you hunt a beast."
