Chapter 4 - Present Day (part two)

Mei gazed up at the place she was staying at temporarily. Her best friend from college had bought a house not too long ago. But Mei was not surprised because right away as their friendship hit off, she had realized how rich Natsu's family was. She laughed a little at herself before Natsu opened the door and greeted Mei with a sad smile in her face. Mei only smirked before Natsu brought Mei into a hug. She really needed a hug.

"Hey Kid, how you feeling?" Although Mei was older, Natsu hovered her by almost 6 inches. Therefore she began to call Mei, Kid. It all started on the first day they met, although at first Mei did not like it, she eventually stopped caring because Natsu's intentions were pure. And Natsu never stopped calling Mei kid.

Natsu invited Mei into the house. "I'm totally, great." She definitely heard the sarcasm in her voice, but Natsu didn't press it any further. "Well, this house is open to you. Stay as long as you need to until you find a place of your own. Your divorce is tomorrow, you should probably go sleep soon."

"Are you sure I'm not intruding? I wouldn't want to ruin your sex life." Mei joked. Natsu bursted out laughing before directing a threatening to Mei. "Hmph! stop shoving it into my face that I'll never find someone!"

The both of them laughed it off and parted, and Mei was left alone in the room of which she was staying at temporarily. This room was one guest room in a house filled with five others. Each one nicely decorated and filled with furniture that all seemed to have been imported from different countries.

And as Mei looked around, everything seemed a lot for vacant than usual. An air of mysteriousness and heaviness hung in the air after Natsu left, and Mei's heavy heart had taken another leap again. So she decided to get ready for bed. Tomorrow was going to be a day where she was going to leave this tiring life behind.

Suddenly, a soft clack soft on the window could be heard. This was the second floor, what could that possibly be? Mei shuffled out of bed and took a glance out the window. Love and behold, it was the breaker of her heart standing just a few feet below. Sora was dressed in a heavy coat, holding what looked like a canvas.

Mei scoffed to herself. With a soft pull, she had the giant windows open quietly. How'd he even know what room I was in? Sora was looking around nervously as he rubbed his neck and carried a expression of devastation. Mei knew he was hurt, she knew they both loved each other, but what hurt was that it was never going to be the same. The both of them could never go back to how it was again.

Sora had heard the window open and looked up, seriously relieved that he had gotten the right room after spending thirty minutes of trial and errors of rock throwing at different rooms of the house.

"Mei....can you please come down and talk to me?"

Mei scrunched her eyebrows, taking a deep breath in. "No, it's best if we don't talk untill tomorrow. "

"Mei, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to do what I did."

And Mei erupted in anger. "It's been three years since the first time you lied. Tell me, Sora, three years ago you were supposed to be out of the country, and suddenly I find out you were staying in a hotel with her. What was that?" Mei had paused, taking a shaking breath in. "I think you should go. Tomorrow will be our last day of seeing each other"

Sora looked away, eyes feeling with tears and a look of shame as he knew he was in the wrong. "Mei...at least I wanted to give this back." And he lifted up the canvas. The canvas Mei had painted as a surprise for him many years back. Mei remembered painting it, on the day when Sora had gotten back late from practice. And how she had smiled so innocently while painting it, pouring all of the love that she could give into it. And all of it was ruined.

"Keep it or throw it away" Mei turned away, "I don't need something like that" And she shut the window. All these years of memories, she never thought a bond like this could be so fragile. Mei laid back in bed, knowing that it would take a few minutes until Sora would go. And her heart ached.

The next day, the divorce happened.
