As Bri and I left our dorm building I kept hoping we would meet our neighbors at dinner. We will spot them sitting together alone and ask to join them. We will make them feel comfortable and have fun then we will invite them to play pool with us at the pub, which is our diner like eating place on campus. Then after a few rounds of pool we will all be best friends and all my sadness will be gone forev..
"Wow what a short walk!" Bri opens the door as I snap out of my obsessive thoughts.
"You're right that was really short." I turn around and just across the courtyard is our dorm hall. Convenient. As soon as we walk in the doors we are met with the freezing cold grasp of AC. We head up the stairs to where we eat only to be met with a long line of hungry students waiting to scan in. After about three minutes Bri and I finally scan ourselves in and hurry to get our spots in the food line. I go straight for the pizza because it's very difficult to mess up pizza. Bri decides to be more adventurous and go through the hot food bar. After we grabbed our food we meet up, grab our drinks, then scan the cafeteria for people to sit with. No one. Everyone has their big groups already. Just our luck.
"Why don't we just go sit in that booth because I don't want to just sit down next to a huge group of people" I suggested this to Bri and thankfully she agreed. As we sat down to eat we watched people come in and out of the cafeteria meeting friends, laughing and having a good time. I thought to myself here we are, in college eating pizza and what looks like mashed green beans. "Uhm Bri, what is that?" I said pointing to the mess on her plate.
"The sign said green beans, so I'm assuming those." She said this and she moved them around with her fork "Unfortunately they aren't very good."
"So if they're green beans why are they mushy like potatoes?"
"Because Sandra, i mushed them. Just like our dreams of finding other friends are mushed." Bri says this as she begins stabbing the pile with her fork and spreading them all over her plate. Yeah, we for sure are definite loners.
"Oh look they're putting more desserts out! Looks like they have cookies and brownies. Oh they look so good. Do you want any because I'm going to go get some!" I looked at Bri waiting for her answer.
"Yes of course I do bring me some of both please!"
"You got it!" I quickly walked over there and saw these delicious treats that they made vulnerable to my clutches. I quickly grabbed two dessert plates because one wasn't going to satisfy our lonely needs. I filled one with about 6 cookies and the other with 8 brownies. Perfect. I walked quickly but carefully back to Bri ignoring the judging looks and put the plates down between us. "Here's the real feast."
