Chapter 3 - Across the street

"What the hell is your problem?!", Arya screamed.

I heard her scream up here in my room. The usual banter and screaming in the morning become my own taste of breakfast before a real meal. I live in a neighborhood where everyone's business is their own and you never butt in.

Arya had been my friend for quite some time now but day by day, she started to transform into someone I don't recognize.

"Miya, come down here quick!" I heard my mother call me from the second floor, even up here I can hear her.

"Geez! Coming, what is it?"

When I came down, I saw her holding a bloody squirrel.

"What the - "

I was not able finish what I was supposed to say 'cause she flung the squirrel beside me, landing exactly at a trash bin placed where I'm standing.

"Bloody hell, Mother! What is that suppose to mean?" I gave her a death look like I'm gonna strip her lungs from her body.

She laughed.

"Come here and wash my hands, their filthy now" she said and beckoned me to her side.

Was that a surprise? Well I guess, maybe, for some of you. My mother can get so psycho at times then be gentle the next. My freaking father is nowhere in the picture, he disappeared like a bubble when my mother had me. I never knew that man or whoever he is. I stopped questioning my mother when I turned 9 cause I just found it pointless and dangerous. I'm living with a woman who's half psycho and could snap my neck in a second without blinking. I maybe her child but well, you never know what a messed up mind can do.

*Knocking*

After I finished washing my mother's hand, I gave her a clean towel and went to get the door. Arya is standing there looking like a purple yam, she looks sick.

"What now?" I asked.

"What "what now?"" she asked and steps inside shoving me to the door.

Now my mother's gonna go and hug her again.

I think they better understand themselves together than I can ever understand them myself.

Like some flashing light in the movie and lightning from the sky, things went on so fast. I never expected this morning to be like any other morning I wake up to. I had too much to say supposedly but I guess it's the end now.

I was standing outside Arya's house, into her parents room, into her brother's room, I circled the house. Everything is red, like in a dark room and it felt like night.

I was there and I couldn't get myself to remember what happened exactly. I'm inside our house again, wracking my head to remember this morning but I'm having difficulty doing so.

"Miya" someone called my name, I turned to look at my mother, her face is painted in red thick blood, splatters of it.

I covered my mouth as the flashing events came. Arya came and went straight to the kitchen, she and my mother were looking at each other and before I knew it, my mother who's half psycho might have turned it on to completeness like turning up the full volume of a speaker. Arya just looked at her getting out of our house and into hers.

'What the hell have you done???' I screamed at Arya.

Her face is blank and she stared at nothing like she did not hear me.

I ran after my mother but she's like a hungry werewolf devouring what she sees. Everything is red, darker than the red carpet in a show, the smell of iron and pies is everywhere.

I stepped back a little and sat on the floor.

My mother came closer and kissed my right cheek.

"I'm gonna wash up myself and let's go out to dinner" she said and smiled.

She looks like some demon woman I watched from a horror movie.

"You'll here no more tomorrow and be at peace, they're quite now" she continued "Now change and let's bury her."

Her?

What is she talking about? Who's her?

The look in my horrified face must have been so evident and visible, she kissed my left cheek, looks me in the eye and no words came out.

She got up and patted my head. Her hand is surprisingly clean and soft. I got up after she left the room. I went for a shower and changed my clothes. They smell like iron.

I came down and Arya is lying on the living room table, all white, her complexion, and wearing a white dress.

My mother walked toward me and pulled me closer to her side.

"See? They are all quite now."
