It's been a while since I've felt this nervous. I had become a part of the team but it didn't really make a difference. I only joined to keep them off my back. It made it so I wouldn't have to look over my back all the time for the flash. I was looking around Star labs trying to figure out where everything was when Barry Allen walked in. He doesn't know anything about my powers yet. We work together and yet he can't recognize me.
"Hey. Looking around?"
"Well yea. I'm a part of the team so I might as well know my way around."
He chuckles. I can't tell what his goal is. I feel like he's here for something but at the same time he just wants to get to know me.
"So how did you get your powers?"
" How did you get your?"
"Are you always this defensive or is it just with me?"
"Well that would depend on what you call defensive."
He smiles. He then grabs a chair and sits down. I lean against the table and wait for him to talk.
"I was in a coma for 9 months. When I woke up I had these powers. I chose to help people instead of turning a blind eye. Earlier you mentioned us having a common enemy. Were you talking about the reverse flash?"
I hesitated. Spilling my business to a dude I just met didn't seem like the smartest option. But I felt… safe in a way.
"Yes I am. Or I think I am. When I was a kid my family was driving out of town when there was a flash of lightning similar to yours. The car went over the bridge we were driving on and I almost drowned. My sister and I were able to get out but…"
Even after all these years it hurt to talk about.
" But my father didn't make it. When the police arrived and saw the body they saw he was strangled and stabbed multiple times. They arrested my mom and she's still in jail. It wasn't her fault. She did nothing wrong."
I sighed and tried to calm down.
"Anyway… after the trail me and my sister went into foster care. We were both adopted by different families. I went over that night in my head a million times and it never added up. I always felt like there was something else I wasn't seeing. When the particle accelerator exploded I was in a coma for a while and I woke up with these powers."
I looked at the flash's face and saw the thing I hated most. Pity. I don't know why I expected him to react differently. Once I tell people that story of my past they always give me pity. I hate it. Before I could speak again Barry beat me to it.
"Well then I guess we both have to work to free our parents."
As he said that I realized it wasn't a look of pity. It was him relating to my pain.
"Yes… I guess we do."
I walk out the room and leave star labs. I am halfway home when I realized something.
"THE RECORDS."
I turned on the super speed and race home to change into work clothes. I was supposed to have the day off but I needed to do this now. I told the flash about my parents' case. He would most likely go through and look for it to find my identity. I run to the precinct and go to the records room. Barry wasn't there yet. I turn off the camera's and make sure no one can see me while I use his super speed to collect every record of my mom's case. I triple check to make sure nothing is left behind as I walk out the door. Barry is standing right in front of me confused.
"Hey Allen."
"Hi Duncan."
Damn. I need to figure out a way for him to get off my back. If he goes in there he'll know I'm the one who took the files. I got an idea.
"Allen follow me."
I lead him to a secluded part of the precinct with all the boxes still in my hand.
"Allen, I am with the superhero Hurricane. I know that you were probably going to look for case files since you are most likely working with the flash."
Barry looked surprised. He didn't know what to say. Emma smirked. She was happy her idea worked out so well.
"Don't worry Allen I won't tell anyone. Hurricane isn't mad at the flash for trying to have a peek at the files. But she wanted me to tell you something."
Barry calmed down and spoke.
"What is it?"
"She wanted me to say she enjoyed the chat with the flash. She hopes they can chat again."
I walked away and I made sure I was far enough from the precinct and after I made sure I wasn't being followed I used the super speed to get to the warehouse. I hid the files in a small corner and went home. I was super tired. I hadn't gone to sleep in a couple of days and I needed my rest. I layed down on my bed and went to sleep.
