Chapter 1 - The Abandoned Baby

"Honey, are you sure we can leave her here? Why don't we drop her somewhere else?"

The forest was quiet but that was nothing special. What was special was all the legends that was told here. The legends of a magical green hummingbird that grants you powers but the powers depend on what story you're told. Some say you get an elemental power, others complete control of nature. The most popular is that you get the blessing of wings. No one knows for sure. The legend goes that that the green hummingbird, named the Benedictio fugae which is latin for "blessing of flight", looks for those worthy of their power. They shine a bright green aura which is hard to miss. When touched, it will grant you the powers that legends have told. No one knows whether they are true. Those who look for the Benedictio fugae never find it. Until one day...

Leaves crunch under the pair's feet as they walk through the forest. The woman is nervous and scared, clinging on to her husband's arm. He looks forward, emotionless as a baby's car seat slightly swings in his hands. A baby cries inside the car seat, begging for its food from her parents. The mother doesn't stop to feed her.

After what feels like hours, the couple stop. The forest is no longer quiet nor calm. Birds scatter and footsteps from nearby deer are everywhere. Something's coming.

"Jeremiah! Answer me! Are you certain you want to leave her here? Why not at some sort of orphanage or with a neighbor?" The woman proclaims. They were planning to leave the baby here since they didn't want her. The father that was called Jeremiah sighed in annoyance.

"Yes, I do, Direla! No one can judge us here if we leave her." Direla jumped at Jeremiah's harsh voice. He's always had a temper...

Direla sighed. "I guess there's no chance of changing your mind...fine." Direla looked away, not wanting to see her daughter abandoned but she didn't want her either. Jeremiah had no hesitation putting the car seat down on the grass as the baby continued to cry.

Jeremiah stared the baby down. He walked away with no trace of regret. "Direla, let's go." She didn't move as she stared down at the grass in horror. "Direla! I said, let's go!" Jeremiah turned back to Direla. He grabbed ahold her skinny arms and forcefully dragged her away from the car seat. Direla said nothing as she let her husband drag her away.

The baby's crying drowned away as they walked further away. Little did they know, this decision would greatly effect their unwanted child. Not only would they be haunted by leaving a helpless child behind, they would be giving her a chance at a better life.
