Chapter 9 - Journals.

Many thoughts were going in Xiao Wei's mind as she climbed up the stairs. For the first time in her life, she was feeling so nervous that she wanted to throw up. What awaited her?

She slowly went to the ninth floor. All the important documents were kept there. Even the old documents. Starting from the patient's illness to the patient's personal information. If anyone wanted to dig up dirt on someone, that's the place. And how Xiao Wei knew all this? Due to her being a medical student, she naturally knew a lot of the medical world's secrets. Including this hospital chief's little "hobby" of sticking his nose in people's personal affairs.

She waited for the chance to get in the room. For emergency purpose, she brought some itching powder with her. Dangerous, but not enough to kill someone. As the hallway was not getting empty at all, she placed some right on the window beside the stairs, so if anybody found out, they'd think that it came from outside. Luckily, there's wasn't any camera on this floor. This floor was only for documents and such classified information can't get caught in any sort of camera.

The hospital security on this floor was much lesser because they wanted to give off the impression that there's nothing important in there. Only the insiders knew their secret.

"Aaahhhhh", suddenly a scream was heard from the stairs.

"The nurse is screaming in pain. Something happened to her!" Immediately everyone ran to check what happened and that's when Xiao Wei ran towards that room. On her way she used her advanced device to copy the print from a worker's ID card that was randomly on the reception. Being rich and having such gadgets is amazing.

She successfully opened the big door. She knew she could take all the time she needed because there won't be anyone in here till Friday. Which is in four days. All the informations were updated after a week, so there won't be any suspicion.

She had always been curious about how they got to know about such information. She took a random file in her hand.

'19th November, 2011.

Jungha Chung. Injected with serum at 2:30 am. The serum is supposed to make them feel intense pain and until the person reveals everything we want to know, the antidote won't be given. The antidote relives pain and erases memory. But the serum isn't working on him. Looks like we need to put him on something stronger.'

Xiao Wei wasn't surprised. She expected this much. Without cruelty it wasn't possible for anyone to get their hands on dirty secrets.

She searched the room for hours for any of her information. Maybe her name was different? So, she looked into birthdays same as hers. Maybe the birthday was different, so she looked into same age female files.

"I couldn't have been a boy.", Xiao Wei groaned. That's when a red book kept right at the bottom corner caught her eye. She instinctively, but carefully took the book and opened it. The first page was scribbled with medical studies, she kept turning the pages till she saw there was a hollow space in between. The pages were cut in the middle. It almost looked like someone did that with a square cookie cutter. Treasure chest! Xiao Wei thought. But it wasn't time for silly thoughts to enter her mind. There was a small box inside. The size of a toddler's palm. She thought to herself if it was safe to open it.

"I've already doubted my existence and entered here. What's the point if I get scared of a little trick now?" Xiao Wei thought to herself audibly and started opening the box.

There was a little key inside. An old little key. The ones used to lock expensive royal cupboards.

"A cupboard? What are they going to do? A fashion show?", Xiao Wei was annoyed at this point. Was that Wallace pervert playing me? If he was, I'll screw his head so bad that no psychiatrist in the world will be able to fix him.

She was angry.

All this time, someone was watching her from a laptop screen and smirking at her antics.

"I wonder if I'll be able to see these childish antics of yours when you become yourself again.", the mysterious person smiled.

It wasn't hard for Xiao Wei to find out the lock for the key. It was right behind that big sketch of fruits hanging at the back of the room.

"A fruit sketch? Really? They really respect their nutritionists.", Xiao Wei rolled her eyes.

She moved the sketch and unlocked the door which looked like a cupboard. As expected, it led to a secret room.

She climbed down the stairs. And stacks of files again. But this time it was a lot lesser. A handful.

She immediately saw a familiar date. Her accident date. She quickly took the file and opened it.

She saw her picture. She couldn't believe it was her. Dark clothing. She never wears dark clothing. Because it looks too depressing. Expressionless eyes. Although the eyes were expressionless, for some reason she could read them. Maybe because it was her who felt those. She could see anger, pain and fear suppressed in those eyes. Those strong emotions, not for herself, but for someone else.

In the picture, she looked like a defeated phoenix. A phoenix that lost it's battle with the light and now it's feathers were groomed with black flames. It was Xiao Wei and yet not her.

She quickly broke herself out of the daze and started reading the context.

'Liu Xiao Wei.

25th April. 3:30pm. In the broad daylight she was brought in discreetly. Bloody and bruised. A beautiful girl indeed. But who did this to her? After much interrogation the Zhe family finally said she's their adopted daughter.'

'10th May. 2:34pm. Xiao Wei is regaining her consciousness slowly, but the Zhe family is forcing me to give her medication to forget everything about her past. Today they registered her surname as Zhe. It all seems too suspicious. I wonder what the Zhe family's dirty secrets are.'

'23rd May. 1:46 am. The serum we give our patients to reveal the truth. We gave it to her secretly to find out about the Zhe family's secrets. One of the rich families in the city. If we got our hands on one of their mysteries, we won't get in trouble again.'

'24th May. 7:30pm. Almost two days and she still hasn't given in. We've given her four doses of the serum, but she still isn't telling us anything. Another dose and she'll be dead. But we can't do that. The Zhe family just wants her to forget everything not dead. Today the memory losing medication shall be injected into her. After that she won't remember that the hospital tried to force her by injecting her with pain serums."

'30th May. More than a month has passed since the patient is here. The Zhe family's suspicious activities is leading to the fact that they caused the girl's "accident". Because of the memory losing medicine, she'll be in vegetative state for a few months. But after the she wakes up, she'll need the medicines regularly to not remember anything. I wonder how long the Zhes' will be able to hide. Making someone forget an hour of two is easy. This is what we do after we interrogate our patients for leverage, but a whole life is hard. If she remembers, she'll remember what we did to her as well.'

End of journal.
