Chris, the one walking over to hold a conversation, froze at her weird question. His eyes showed confusion.
Did he look like someone itching for a fist fight just because he was trying to intercept her? The girl was known for her brain. Is this how geniuses think? Cross them, even if it's only to speak with them and you'll be mistaken for someone who wants to brawl?
Wendy, unfazed by the weird eyes staring at her, stopped before the boy. A trace of unease flashed in her eyes as she finally realized who the other party was. "Chris from Section B?"
Their school, Holy Child Academy, was composed of both the four-year junior high and two-year senior high. Every grade or level had at least four hundred students divided into groups of thirty. The management could not be bothered to come up with decent names so every section was styled after the alphabet.
Both Wendy and Sofony were part of Section A. The said section was made up of students ranking in the top 30 from the previous school year making it the pilot section of the grade. The rest of the sections were heterogeneous in terms of gender, grades, or names. The boy she called Chris was from Section B, a classmate of Floyd and his ugly underlings. She sometimes saw his name ranking in the twenties; but since his results were not stable, he failed to be part of Section A this year.
'This Chris should be one of the stupid people on that scumbag's side.'
A frown appeared on her immaculate face when she thought of this.
"You keep staring at me. Do you know how rude and disturbing that is? Tell me. Is there something wrong with my face? Or are you just too entranced by me? In other words, do you have any business with me?" Wendy rudely bombarded him with questions, her manner nowhere near the word 'polite'.
Chris was quite intimidated by her glare and had to pass a few seconds to recollect his calm. In his mind, disbelieving words kept creeping up. 'Just wow. This Miss Number One is really fierce, like a queen. Very narcissistic as heck.'
"I have something to tell you." He started when the girl's left brow was raised.
Wendy blurted out using an impatient and matter-in-fact tone, "Obviously, otherwise you won't block my way."
The boy did his best not to roll an eye at her before continuing, "Your friend?"
Wendy impatiently folded her arms and scanned him from head to toe, the look in her eyes was not good especially when the guy asked for her friend. In a condescending tone, she coldly answered,
"Somewhere you should not concern yourself with. If you have problems with us, sorry but us goddesses don't have time to give a damn."
Wendy's eyes rolled at him as if the girl feared he wouldn't see how annoyed she was at him.
"So what is it again? I already asked a while ago, what's the problem? Is my simple question too complicated for you to understand? Or do I have to repeatedly ask just so that it will register in your brain? Gosh, pitiful me. I don't know why there are people in the world who don't know how to use their functioning parts properly. I'm not pertaining to every PWD out there, okay? I mean someone like, ahem, you dorky boy blocking the path of this beautiful lady on her way to the classroom. But, okay, fine. My question again is, do, you, have, any, freaking, business, with, the goddess, me?"
Chris was aware of the famous razor-sharp tongue of the campus beauty. Wendy Gomez was known to be frank and straightforward, but scheming, unreasonable and probably only mellow to her best friend and some other favored acquaintances.
However, knowing about it or not was a different matter. Her rude attitude really lit some fuse in Chris' head as he started giving her a cold look. What kind of person talked like this? He didn't even say a thing yet but the other party already said more than a thousand words.
He couldn't control the frost in his eyes from shooting out. The girl was not intimidated though. She was too used to her air-conditioner of an elder brother to care for a mini fan.
Chris gritted his teeth and then calmed himself. He did his best to erase first the image of this girl sizing him up and down repeatedly with a raised brow from his mind. Only when he successfully lightened the annoyance in his heart did he speak.
"I want to talk to the both of you. It's about you and Miss Sofony's safety." He emphasized. "I know it's unbelievable and maybe to you, I just look some crazy bastard you encounter in an empty corridor, but on my part, I just don't want to bear something against with my conscience, so I at least want to inform you and Miss Sofony."
When Wendy heard his words, some hint of surprise appeared in her eyes and she started studying the person standing like a lamp post before her more seriously. Since she remembered that this Chris was mingling with Floyd, it became easy for her to connect the dots.
'Sofony really didn't lie. If even someone from that scumbag's group knew, then it's more than ninety percent confirmed.'
With a stare much more critical than before, she inspected the place left and right to make sure no people were close. Then she began shooting him a piercing glance. Chris felt the sudden change in her aura. He said to himself, she's the exact opposite of her best friend. If Sofony Mendez was a gentle and weak nerdy goddess, then this girl confronting him was a strong queen capable of crushing people using both her beauty and aura.
"You're a minion of that scumbag Floyd, right? Felicity's boyfriend?"
He instinctively denied. "No. There's just another reason why I have to mingle with them. I am Felicity's childhood friend."
She sneered, "So? Is your group cooking up something nasty against me and Sofony?"
Chris' eyes widened and shocked was all over his face. "You knew?"
"I am actually just guessing. However, you just confirmed it. What a nice bunch you are. Truly. This beautiful me is very amused and amazed by the greatness of your group!"
"I said I'm not truly part of them!"
Chris merely joined them to monitor Floyd. Felicity's too fragile so he wanted to at least watch out for her and see for himself what kind of people her boyfriend and his friends were. He didn't like so far what he managed to find out. However, he's not obligated to mention this part to someone else.
Wendy obviously didn't know what's running in his mind and was lazy to care. He was merely a stranger to her.
Contempt filled her eyes as she mercilessly refuted.
"I'm saying you're with them because you're part of that scumbag's group. Don't say you're not. You're always seen hanging out with Floyd and his ugly friends. I know what kind of scumbagness your group is partaking in. For example, a certain scourge ordering his subordinates to kidnap girls to satisfy his sexual hobby. I don't know why suddenly one of them is turning traitor with the excuse 'my conscience', but one thing's for sure. Nothing could change the fact that your group is very very disgusting. "
'She knew!'
Chris immediately looked away when Wendy gave him a condemning stare. He could only look away. In the end, her claim was the truth, actually exactly what he overheard.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know they would stoop that low. This is my first time hearing them talk like that. When I realized they're plotting against you and Miss Sofony, I couldn't sit still. I was actually looking for the two of you since yesterday to warn you in advance."
"You're not part of it when your group planned it? Hah, I think you have talents in acting since you successfully characterized the role of someone who brainwashed himself that he's not a bad guy."
Wendy held her head high, both posture and look resembled a very confident but beautiful villainess from a medieval themed movie.
"Here's the thing, Mr. Chris Bastard, I'd like to warn you guys actually from acting. We have procured evidence of your plan. Actually, evidence of your group's scumbagness is all over the place. Just that the admin is acting like they saw and heard nothing. Yeah gosh, why is the school even tolerating it? Just because a student is rich, he's untouchable? Wow, great, but sorry, we're no pushover. I can call the police now and book him and all of you a cell so that the school can become a better place. What do you think, Mr. Chris Bastard?"
The way she addressed him as someone surnamed 'Bastard' really made him annoyed, however, the girl was really biased.
He could just say, "...Feel free to do so. I'm not really one of them so I have nothing to fear. However, if I were you I would just avoid Floyd and the others. You don't know what they could do. Floyd... is a resourceful person."
Wendy started laughing. She was greatly amused by the boy. "How resourceful?"
"Very. You don't know what a rich and spoiled person can do."
"I suggest you don't laugh it off. I'm serious." Chris spoke, his tone telling her he's really not joking.
"You know," she began once her laughter died down. Tired of standing, she half-sat on the aluminum railings on the left. The rows of potted flowers served as her background. Even the very unnerved Chris Meyer somehow blinked at her pleasant appearance.
"...about that Floyd Scumbag, tell him to stop thinking using his lower half. Money is good, but he's too brainless if he's thinking just because he's rich, he could do everything. Do you know the concept of money, brain, and efforts? He only has the first, against us and Sofony who have the last two, I think we're not going to lose. Heck, even my fans should not be that useless if I will use them as cannon fodders against him. And oh, just kidding, I'm not that heartless towards people who adore me."
"You..." Chris' jaw was almost reaching the ground and he was now starting to believe that his ears were not functioning properly, just like how Wendy initially taunted at him.
Wendy gestured with her hands then laughed. "By the way, he's so engrossed in doing that daily. That's bad! Very! His kidney will surely go bad at least twenty years earlier than people his age. And that is," she paused and raised another brow. "...if he continues NOT doing it in moderation. You know, everything excessive is not always good... It's okay to have excess cash reserves, it's okay to have excess food stocked in your fridge, just make the food does not easily expire. But there's also the not good things, one fact is that excessive shagging is bad!"
The speechless boy could only stare at her stupidly. His ears were probably already more than bad... No matter what, he probably had the wrong definition of the fourth to the last word in his mind.
Wendy glanced at her cheap violet wristwatch and thought she still had time. She went on, "Do you have other problems? Opinions? Violent reactions?"
He hesitated if he should answer the question first, or bring up the issue of her saying the word shag. However, he remembered that there was something more pressing at hands. "...None. Just, I still think you and Sofony should at least do your best to avoid them, or, us."
Wendy's lips hooked up. She was very amused by his hesitation when saying 'us'.
'I probably should look more into it. This guy is suspiciously naive. But, it doesn't mean he's trustworthy. Heck, he's still mingling with rotten apples so it's impossible to not be contaminated. What if he's really acting? And that in reality, he's the worst beast among his group since his face is the best within their pack of wolves?'
About the persistent advise, she half-heartedly replied with eyes looking away, "Got it. But I really don't buy your conscience play. Well, I at least appreciate the warning. You're probably the nicest of your rotten bunch. Oh, by the way, if I'm not mistaken, no one's in your group is chaste. What say you?"
Here she was again. "...What the heck are you suddenly saying?"
"Hah, as part of your group's crimes, I'm at least eighty percent sure that your group has sexually harassed or even pushed down many girls in the campus. I'm not sure about Felicity, but as I heard, the girls hanging around your bad boys are no longer decent."
It was one of the urban legends of their school. Wendy was aware of it since she's always caught up with the trends and campus news.
"What did you say?" At the mention of his childhood love and her possible association with something indecent, Chris felt his head turning black. In agitation, he roared, "Don't relate Felicity to those kinds of girls!"
"Oh? Fine, and what about the group? Are you also like them, probably you also had your fair share of experience."
"Experience?" Chris blurted out dumbfoundedly.
'What experience?'
Wendy's teasing eyes turned sharper when he saw the boy's slowness. She actually didn't know why she's suddenly discussing sensuality with a guy she's not very familiar with, but she couldn't help doing anyway. She brought up the topic as probing to the group's licentiousness.
When she saw the boy finally realizing it as his face, ears and neck turned red, she wondered if her eyes had gone bad.
'Did I ask the wrong person?'
Then to the wavy-haired girl's surprise, the blushing boy roared in anger.
"S-shut up! What do you think you are saying? You are a girl! What queen? What number one girl in the grade? You're the most indecent tongued woman I regretted encountering!!"
'... Did I go overboard? Just wow. He left in anger. Probably still a virgin boy. And what indecent tongue? I'm pure myself.'
With a shrug, Wendy started walking back to her classroom, thinking it's much more important to prioritize her and Sofony's current circumstances. However, without her awareness, her cheeks were somehow tinged with red. It made her aura more subtle and cute. The few fanboys who witnessed this got charmed at first, but later developed hatred to the last guy she talked with.
