I hope you like this re-edit, flashbacks are in double brackets
The rain fell heavily on the car window as it sped through the empty streets. The early morning light struggled to break through the clouds.
Inside the car, a woman in white sighed for the tenth time that morning. The driver gazed back at the woman looking concerned.
"Are you ok, miss?" he asked.
She smiled sadly at him.
"Yes I'm fine, thank you." She spoke softly as she lowered her head and looked at her hands more specifically the ring finger on her left hand.
((Mina opened one eye as she heard the front door to her apartment open. She had fallen asleep on the sofa waiting for her fiance Ben to come home from work. Here he was three hours late, and he was not alone.
"Shhh! she's sleeping,"
She recognised the woman clinging to his arm, Lola his assistant. Mina was about to get up when Lola's words stopped her.
"Since she's sleeping out here, let's go into the bedroom," she suggested seductively.
Mina froze 'say no, say no' she chanted.
"We can't. If she wakes up she'll find us" he said.
'Well that wasn't an exact no' Mina thought, feeling confused.
"She hasn't figured it out yet and we did it in the shower when she was cooking two days ago." Lola laughed quietly.
Mina was seething.
"If she hasn't figured it out by now, then she never will" Lola sneered.
"Easy, that's my fiancee you are talking about. She may be pathetic but she's a tool I need," Ben spoke so coldly.
It was like an ice-cold bucket of water washed over her.
"Are you still gonna marry her?" Lola asked.
"Of course! Her family are important figures in the corporate world. Though they aren't speaking right now, one day they will and those ties are so important to my bottom line."
Ben sounded so clinical towards her. Where was the soft romantic man she had known for two years?))
That was several weeks ago. She had been too mortified to bring it up. However, She started to see him in a new light.
When she first started dating him, her family hadn't been pleased. Then when he had proposed and she said yes. Mina argued with her parents about him, nearly all her family wasn't speaking to her.
She had thought of cancelling the wedding, but her confidence had gone. She felt like if she was stupid enough to choose him over her family it was what she deserved.
The car pulled up outside the courthouse, luckily the rain had stopped as she stepped out of the car. She sighed again as she looked up at the imposing building.
Upon entering the building, She was led into a waiting room of sorts. Only one other person was there. A very handsome man looking to be around the same age as her.
He smiled politely at her as she sat down. Half an hour later she was wondering what the hold up was.
They hadn't planned a big wedding. Lola was going to be the only witness.
Mina checked her phone, there was a message from Ben.
'Running late, tell them to wait.'
Mina laughed out loud, it was a sort of hysterical laugh. A release of energy or something.
The man looked at her confusedly. She smiled at him.
"Sorry," she said.
"No please, I need to laugh right now," he said.
"I don't know if you would find it funny," she said.
"Try me," he came to sit next to her.
"Well, I'm supposed to be getting married right now. He has just messaged me saying he is running late and to tell them to wait."
The man looked confused.
"See I told you, you wouldn't find it funny," she said, still chuckling.
"Why do you find it funny? Shouldn't you be angry at him?" he asked her.
Mina smiled knowingly.
"I'm thinking of it as a get out of jail free moment. I found out recently that he has been cheating on me and is only marrying me because of my family."
"Why are you still marrying him then?" he asked.
Mina couldn't give him an answer. That was THE question she has been asking herself for weeks. Luckily, she was saved from answering when another man came in.
The man she had been talking to stood up and walked to him. After a hushed conversation, both men turned to her. The first man glanced at the other, who nodded and left whilst he came to sit back down next to her.
"Everything ok?" Mina asked. He shook his head.
"Not really," he said. "I was meant to get married today as well. It turns out she has had too much fun last night to make it here today," he said calmly.
Mina started chuckling.
"Well aren't we a pair, maybe we should get married," she said jokingly.
The man smiled.
"Exactly what I was thinking."
What will happpen?
