Chapter 2 - Blood Flowed and Bodies Fell

Jayce kept his courage that was lingering on his heart. It was the only thing keeping him up on his toes. His experience in fighting competitions on a ring with Muay Thai was a very precious thing for him in maintaining his confidence and form, but fighting goblins and seeing his schoolmates being made into a sweet summer kebab? Nope. Jayce was not prepared for that.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Jayce charged forward. The three goblins were now near him but he already knew what to do. The leading goblin slashed downwards with its short sword towards Jayce's torso. Jayce made a side step towards the side of the goblin that was an opening and counterattacked using an uppercut towards the goblin's chin.

The goblin was not wearing any helmet, only some sort of leather armor. The counterattack connected impressively and a burst of lightning pierced through the goblin's head, frying the contents inside its skull. Its body flew few spaces away because of the massive force behind the punch.

Jayce immediately stepped back to evade because the second goblin was already in front of him. It thrust its sword forward, attempting to stab Jayce's abdomen. While the goblin was attacking, he opened his palm facing the opponent. Arcs of lightning were shot out, magnificently devastating the green bastard.

Boom!

Its body flew back due to the immense power of the lightning. The sound was magnificent to behold, like a thunderclap breaking the sound barrier. Its body was charred black and smoke permeated from its chest.

The effects of Jayce's attack was wonderful but it took a huge toll to his energy. It shaved off more than half of his capacity. He was exhausted and thirsty, however, he needs to finish things up.

The last goblin was startled upon witnessing the scene and fled. It marked the enemy as powerful enough to kill it in one move so it quickly retreated.

"If I let that f*cker run back to his friends, he'll come back with a larger group..", Jayce mumbled on his own.

He observed his surroundings and saw that several of his schoolmates were dead already. Blood reeked the area and it smelled really bad.

"It might be me leading into a trap though.", he contemplated further.

Jayce was ready to chase that little green bastard but he heard a footstep behind him.

Jayce immediately spun and leaped backward. With his mind running in top speed and adrenaline-filled body, he maneuvered in split second. Jayce extended his arms forward with open palms to initiate an attack. Lightning ran through his whole body, ready to be released and fry the heavens out of the enemy sneaking up on him.

"HEY HEY HEY WAIT WAIT WAIT! IM NOT A M-MONSTER!"

Sure enough, it was a male schoolmate of his. His arms were raised upwards like a surrendered convict. His uniform was shriveled and his glasses were in out of place.

Jayce placed down his arms and exhaled.

"You scared the f*ck out of me. Talk later, come with me."

His schoolmate nodded and followed Jayce towards the third floor back to his room.

Upon reaching the room, Jayce looked around first before entering. He immediately sat on the floor, exhausted just from that short moment of combat.

"Bro, tell me. Are your powers similar to Thor?"

Jayce raised an eyebrow towards his schoolmate. He looked bemused towards the idea of being Thor but Jayce admits to his self that he has the power similar to him.

"Somewhat. I can control lightning but it makes me tired after using it."

"Fricking awesome.. were you like that since birth? Or did it manifest later on?"

Jayce stared at him for a moment. He could clearly see in his schoolmate's eyes that he was scared but at the same time amazed at Jayce's ability. Well, who wouldn't be?

"That's a secret."

"Oh.."

He was disappointed by Jayce's reply. He wrapped his arms around his knees and hugged it.

"Those things.. just appeared out of nowhere."

"They killed my classmates like they were nothing..."

Clark mumbled and stared at the ground.

Jayce didn't know what to do. He could go out now and try to save everyone but after thinking it up, he only killed three goblins. There were still around thirty plus of its kind out there and with the result of Jayce killing three already, they would probably group up more.

Breaking the silence, Clark asked a question.

"What's your name? Mine's Clark."

"Jayce."

Nodding, Clark sighed and clutched his head in depression.

Jayce slowly tried to approach the window and see if more goblins were rushing out from the portal.

'Well, f*ck me.."

A couple of goblins stepped out from the portal, numbering to almost ten. While there was also another group of goblins approaching the building of around the same number also.

However, there was another peculiar goblin that appeared. It held some sort of wooden staff. It wore a brown robe and had a crown made of bones.

Upon taking his reference of MMORPG games that he played before, he could guess that it would be a goblin shaman. A type of goblin that could curse and summon spirits to attack the enemy.

'It's like those goblin soldier f*ckers weren't enough, he comes a shaman. F*ck me.'

Jayce was extremely frustrated but he knows that he needs to keep his sh*t together to survive.

'It's useless if I use my ability always, I end up tired after using it thrice or four times.'

'I need to make a plan. More goblins are rushing in the school and I need a more effective way to evacuate. Surely the police or military would be here but I'm afraid that the time they would arrive here would be too late already.'

'A lot of students are already dead with the first group. Is there anyone else with abilities here in my school? Surely, there would be a couple of us. right?'

Jayce went back beside Clark. Jayce sat in a meditating pose that was taught to him by his trainer in Muay Thai. He sat in an Indian seat with his back straight while closing his eyes and his palm open on his knees. It helps him focus and feel his body more like sensing the energy flowing inside his system. It could also help him regain his stamina back faster, albeit by a few percentages.

Clark knew from the point where he saw Jayce produce lightning, he was not an ordinary human being but one that has a superpower. By sticking with him he could ensure his safety. Clark knew that he shouldn't be a deadweight and he would try and suggest to use the weapons of the monsters to defend himself.

Clark already tried to use his phone but it won't turn on. Its like after the shockwave emitted by the portal rendered all the gadgets useless.

After a few minutes, Jayce stood up. Jayce knew that carrying his bag would just hinder his movement that's why he would just leave it here.

"Clark, leave your bag here. It would just slow us down."

"Okay. So what's the plan?"

Clark unhesitatingly placed his bag on the floor and retrieved his wallet and phone. He placed it on his pockets for safekeeping.

"I don't know. We could try and kill those bastards or we could just hide here and wait for the police to show up."

Clark was also in dilemma. He knew that Jayce was fully capable to take them on, but not for a long time. That was common sense. If not, Jayce should be rescuing everyone already and shoot lightning everywhere.

"If we stay here, we'll be safe but not for long. I saw another group of goblins arriving here. The total number of them should be around fifty to sixty."

"Sh*t, that's a lot."

"Yeah.."

Jayce took a heavy breath and nodded.

"Alright, let's try and escape the from these green ugly f*ckers. Lets head down. I suggest you use their weapons to protect yourself. Can you do that?"

"Yes, I can."

Clark gulped and nodded. Honestly, he would prefer to just stay here and wait but Clark's afraid that Jayce would leave him here and a goblin group might discover him, so he went along.

"Okay, good. Let's head down now. The more we hide here, the more goblins would be pouring in. Its better to leave now while they are still around that number. Are you ready?"

"I'm ready."

"Okay, follow me. Listen to my orders and focus."

Clark nodded in response.

They went out of the room and ran towards the ground floor. The weapons were still there and nothing was changed.

Clark immediately grabbed the spear and buckler. The spear was one and a half meters long. It was made of wood but had an iron spearhead. The buckler was also made of wood but the center and outline was made of iron also.

Clark nodded to Jayce and they proceeded onwards. Jayce also picked up a short sword and a buckler for himself.

Jayce led the way and they walked along the hallway, sticking to the wall while semi crouching. Each rooms had a slit on the door that was made with glass so you could take a peek inside.

Both of them checked each rooms using the slits to see if there were any students.

Jayce stopped in his tracks and Clark followed suit. Up ahead, they could clearly hear goblin shrieking and a voice of a male and female student.

Jayce glanced at Clark and nodded. It was a way of communication so that they would not alert the enemies.

They walked forward and took a left turn. They could see two male students and a female student being cornered. The female had her back on the wall while the other two had chairs to defend themselves.

It was very resourceful. The chairs were heavy, it was made of metal and they used it as a shield to push back and deflect the short swords of the three goblins that were attacking them.

Jayce and Clark slowly approached the back of the goblins while the other students did not know their presence. They were heavily occupied by the constant harassment of attacks by the green bastards.

Upon reaching the enemies, Jayce stabbed his sword towards the goblin's skull and Clark skewered the goblin's head with his spear.

The third goblin noticed the other presence but it was too late, Jayce bashed its head with the buckler and the other two male students also bashed it with the chairs.

The female student fell to the ground, crying. She was absolutely happy to see some human faces.

Jayce stabbed the third goblin with his sword in the head, ending its miserable life.

The two male students released the chairs they were holding and panted with exhaustion.

"Thank you for saving us. My name is Mark, he's Brad and she's Trina."

"I'm Jayce, and he's Clark."

Green blood dripped unto Jayce's sword and Clark's spear so they wiped it off unto the dead goblin's skin and armor.

Trina stood up and wiped her tears.

"T-thank you so much for saving us."

"Its not a problem. We should go now and leave this place."

The three of them looked at each other.

"Okay."

"You should use their weapons so that you can defend yourselves."

The three students equipped themselves from the loot of their battle. The goblins they killed only had short swords so they could only make use of that.

The five of them paced towards the exit of the building. They would still need to pass by a couple of more to exit the university.

Their university was massive and its buildings were interconnected. The goblins at this time might be all over the place so they decided to tread carefully.

Jayce paused in his tracks and so did the others. He heard some noise of goblin shriek and footsteps. Jayce moved forward to take a peek. After a few steps, there would be an open space to the left, comprimising an area where there would be benches and tables so that students can gather their.

Unfortunately it was crowded by twelve goblins having a feast on a couple of students. Jayce almost puked on the spot by what he saw. He immediately retracted his head and squeezed the handle of his sword and buckler to remain in focus.
