Chapter 33 - The End…of the culprit.

Nate, golden hairruffled, landed next to Jessie, crouching down beside Dylan looking as white. His wide-eyed stared at his cousin in despair before glowered at me with ultimate hatred.

"You kill him!" Nate grounded his teeth. "You filthy human!"

"I-I didn't--" How could he say this? I'm as sad as him.

"Wh..what's this?" Dale voice was shaking. I glanced at him with the corner of my eyes. He was looking bewildered and out of place. Beyond him, behind the tall grasses, the DW took refuge in there as if waiting for prey.

"Yes, you kill him!" Jessie said, giving me red eyes, and turned to Nate. "You said you'd kill her! Why isn't she dead yet?"

What? Why-?

Nate glowered at her too.

"It's the only request I made and you can't do one bit about it?! You stupid demon! Keep blowing your stupid wind here and there and nothing hit her! Why don't you just shot--" She wounded on him angrily.

"Just shut up human!" Nate scolded at her. "You can't make me do things I don't want to!"

"But we made the contract!" Jessie said. "And Leigh Camden's death's my only request!"

"Wait, wait!" I just couldn't keep on listening anymore. "Jessie, what are you saying? You…want to kill me?"

Jessie made a very scary face. Ugliness created from anger and hatred resided on her pretty face. "Yes! If you die, the contract with Dylan would end and I'll be his next!"

"Dylan?" I said looking at my demon in her arm. "You… like him?"

"Only seaweed brain like the queen would believe the rumor you spread. You want him all to yourself, don't you?" Jessie sneered. "Dylan's mine! I'm his number one fan! I like him more than you. I'm the one who love him the most! Now, quick, give him your soul!" And she squeezed Dylan even tighter that Dylan slightly moaned.

"He hurts. Stop it human!" Nate suddenly yelled at Jesssie and took her wrist. Dylan dropped back down onto the ground as Nate put his face close to Jessie's. Then he used his other hand grabbing mercilessly at her cheeks. "You…you're not gonna--" Nervous grin fluttered all over the perfect oval face.

"I did as I was told." Nate said through grinding teeth. "Put Leigh in an accident that can kill her. I don't care if she's dead or not. I'd put in my work. Time for you to pay."

He held her mouth open as if trying to kiss that plumping red lips. But Nate stopped right before his touched hers; and a bright light spilt out of that lovely mouth. Jessie, realized what's happening, eyes bulged with fear and hatred.

I stared at the scene, blood draining from my face. I thought I had to do something. I had to help Jessie, but how?!

"Stop it Nate!" I called at the top of my lung. "No!"

Nate ignored me. And when the whole white ball of light slowly travelled into the demon's mouth, my body went stiff and cold like marble stones. From this point, I could see Dale and the DW behind the grasses. They were, similarly, turned into a type of stones like me.

"YOU FUCKING DEMON!!"

Jessie managed to utter her last words as Nate sucked away her soul. Her conscious started to drift away and she fell on her back, unable to enjoy the cool light drizzle that came down from heaven as if mourning for her departure. Somehow I realized, my misery at school may have come to an end as well.

"Thanks for a grand feast. I especially love those jealousies, although anger and hatred aren't so bad." Nate sneered with satisfaction, swung his tongue around his lips wiping all the remaining taste of the delicious anger mixed with jealousy and hatred soul. It seemed like he was shining for a moment and reminded me of the time he came to my house and met Galvin. Dylan was saying that he captured my kidnapper and passed them on to Nate. Terror widened my opened eyes. Nate must have eaten their souls too. That's why he shined. He was powering up.

"That's why we're called demon. And--" The yellow eyes demon turned to me. I drew back in panic but he grasped my wrist as well. "I got rid of your enemy. You have to help Dylan."

"She's not my enemy!" I protested, still frightened of this Nate. It was like I'd never known him at all. "She's my friend!"

"Are you calling someone who wants you dead a friend?" Nate snickered devilishly. "Your stupid kidnappers led me to her. She had been trying to kill you even without demon's power." I did not want to listen to Nate anymore. I did not want to have bad feelings toward Jessie. And she's dead. I almost cried at the realization. "I heard she'd been giving you a hard time like pulling pranks on you at school, trying to get people to burn you by accusing you as witch. She was so jealous of you being too close to Dylan. And even more jealous when she leant about demons and knew that you're my bro's contractor. Her first request to me was to kill you."

I wanted to shut my ears but Nate was holding my wrist firmly.

"Now, thank me." Nate said forcibly. "Help Dylan!"

Dylan stirred and it dragged me out of Nate's menacing circle. I held him up in my arms again. I would help him without Nate forcing me to. My eyes were swimming again when I saw how bad Dylan was injured. I said. "How do I help him?"

Nate loosened his fierce tone and grip. "There's only one way." He suddenly looked so sad. He must have loved Dylan a lot too. I understood what I had to do then.
