Chapter 9 - Epilogue

Two weeks later...

Detective Baron pulls up behind the cop car with its red and blues still flashing. He was ecstatic when he got the call, even though he knew it wasn't a sure thing since no ID had been made, but he had hope. As soon as he had the car in park, he jumped out and jogged over to meet the eagerly waiting officer Daniels.

"I know you don't wanna sit around talking, so go on and take a look I'll wait, I wanna know just as bad as you any how," the cop said gesturing to his car.

"Thanks," he said and started towards the cop car.

When he got up to the passenger side back window, he took a good long look inside. He'd never seen the man in person, but he was pretty sure from the description that it was him.

He turns and walks back to the Officer.

"Well, is it him?" The officer asks eagerly.

"I think so. I can't say one-hundred percent, but going off the description, I think so," the detective confirms nodding his head.

"Me too. I'd love to know I helped take him off the street. What now?" The cop responded, his face breaking into a big grin.

"I'll take him off your hands so he can be ID'd and questioned."

"Alrighty, I'll help you get him into your car," he says, before following the detective towards the police car.

"If I give you my number, will you let me know how things progress?" The young cop asked, helping to settle the fugitive in the backseat before holding a card out to the detective.

"I'll try, but you'll have to keep it to yourself until it all comes out publicly," the detective responds, taking it then turning towards his car.

Three days later, Caitlin is watching the news. She hasn't missed it a single time since Emily went missing. Everyday she hopes the man has been caught and the girl found. Everyday she's met with disappointment. Everyday until today. His picture flashed onto the screen, followed by a picture of his tuck, and everything but the tv was lost to her.

BREAKING NEWS!

This man, who was the last person to see Emily Horn, has been arrested and will now be awaiting trial for murder!

He has refused to give up any information regarding her whereabouts, however substantial evidence, has been found confirming she was in his truck, along with some other incriminating evidence.

Seventeen year old Emily Horn, was last seen two weeks ago on Friday, around 4:30pm, getting into a beaten up red truck. The man who was seen driving it, was pulled over today, and arrested.

She was wearing a green tank top, black skinny jeans, and a grey cheerleading jacket. Her jacket was found inside this truck. Her car was found on the side of the road, it appeared to have run out of gas.

Her parents say she didn't know this man nor did either of them, they also say it's extremely out of character for her to get into the car, with a complete stranger.

If anyone has any other information regarding Emily Horn, or her whereabouts, please contact the police immediately.

They announce that the guy she'd seen on the way home had been apprehended. However the girl was still nowhere to be found and he refused to say where she was. She was relieved he was finally off the streets and she could stop feeling the need to look over her shoulder. Now she knew he wouldn't be able to do this to anyone else, but where was poor Emily? What had he done to her? They would probably never know.

Detective Baron came by her house that afternoon and asked her to come down to the station and pick him out of a lineup. He told her they had found the red truck with Emily's jacket balled up in the back floorboard with a significant blood stain on it. There was also a couple strands of hair, found in the passenger seat and in the floorboard.

Picking him out of the lineup was one of the most gratifying, and terrifying, things she'd ever done. The relief she felt though after seeing him, and knowing for sure he was behind bars, was astounding. Thanks to her statement and their evidence he'd be going to prison.

His name was Charlie Riggens, and she'd never forget him, or Emily, but she'd always thank God, she didn't get in that truck.
