Chapter 27 - Surprised Old Man

On the day when Aos finally saw the old man, he was sitting at the wooden stump waiting for Aos. She happily ran towards him and in druidic, the only language she had learned to speak spoke her first word to the man who had been showing her the ways of the druid, "(greetings)". The old man was sincerely spooked by the natural way Aos had spoken druidic. He had been expected her to have barely understood any druidic up to this point. He had returned in the first place to ensure that Aos was learning correctly. After all, he had forgotten to explain the pronunciation of the druidic characters.

While the old man had been flabberghasted, Aos called for her friend, "(bird)(summon)". The 4-winged bird burst out of Aos' arm. The old man snapped out of his daze and was beyond complete shock. In the short period of time, he had been away, Aos managed to comprehend druidic almost completely by her self and managed to make a bonded companion.

The old man had his worries that Aos would not be able to learn the required knowledge and skills required to be prepared within the 5 years he had negotiated with Aos' mother. Yet, Aos was learning at a pace the old man could've never contended with.

The old man had only thought that the companion was a common raven found throughout the northern mountain range until he noticed the significantly larger size and the second pair of wings. Once he noticed the difference he simply stopped moving. He had become completely overwhelmed. The bird Aos had managed to bond with was a mythical bird that the old man had only heard about from his predecessor. The vedrfolnir were a breed of birds who had been entrusted to the original druids. These birds containing their own myriad of abilities lost to time. The only significant thing the old man could derive from the vedrfolnir companion was that it was still rather young as it was still small compared to the bird his predecessor had described.

Simply unable to comprehend what had occurred he said, "You don't need my guidance... I'll return soon enough." before he hobbled his way back into the tree line.
