A pair of eyes opened in fear and sorrow. The owner of the eyes looked around in confusion and finally found a mirror.
Looking back to the person was a 17 year old girl. She had a beautiful pair of eyes and perfect countenance that others would envy of. The girl wore pajamas looks just woken up from her sleep.
Ning Wei knew that this was not the case. She felt as if she had a dream for countless years and recently woke up. She saw that her adoptive parents forced her to marry without going to college. She compromised and tried to adjust in the arrange marriage for 5 years.
Her husband respected her and she tried to be a good wife as much as possible. Her husband was in an official post so she always felt inferior to the other ladies in that circle. She tried hard to perfect herself and cultivated the elegance and skills of the upper class society. She learned the ancient arts of chess, calligraphy, painting and music. She never lacked money so she studied these without everyone's knowledge.
But everything ended the day when he wanted divorce. She knew their marriage was originally on a thin ice just to satisfy their families without any love involved and the years of living together had improved nothing. They were just like aquintances who knew each other for 5 years.
She agreed to divorce and went back to adoptive parent's home. They were a middle class family and her younger brother was the sole bread earner so she became a burden to them. The assets she got from divorce was only enough for her and her ex-husband also agreed to help her in any major issue. I agree he was a perfect gentleman!
Her brother asked for help and she agreed to give money for his investment. They also made her bought a house under her father's name. But after a few months the investments failed and her adoptive father also got sick. Most of her savings went for the treatment. Ultimately her father died.
Under her family's blaming eyes to ask her ex-husband for more money she was helpless. She really didn't want to disturb his life. With a thick face she asked him to help her for a job. Although her grades were very good she didn't went to college so he arranged her as a florist in a good flower shop.
She liked the atmosphere of being surrounded with flowers very much. She had also learned about many flowers and the skills of selling. She seriously worked and the collegues were harmaonious too.
After a year her adoptive mother died and her brother also married. Her sister in law didn't liked this adoptive sister very much so she decided to move out. Her ex-husband remarried a daughter of the aristrocated household. She had sent her a compensation to cut all her ties to her ex-husband. Her ex-husband also asked her of that since he didn't wanted to make her wife jealous.
Later her brother's job turned worse and we relied on my income as a florist. The couple pressured her to ask money from her ex bit she really couldn't after he remarried. With constant pressure from them one day she absent-mindedly crossed the road and died.
At the moment of death she recalled her dream of going to college and get a good job. She wanted to support her parents perhaps find her biological parents simce her adoptive parents found her from a dustbin. She was also envious of her ex-husband and his wife to have love for each other.
She felt fear, unwillingness, resentment and endless sadness overcame her.
