(Jane's PoV)
The Old Man seemed to realize that he had mispoken and could only turn his head away awkwardly. Seeing that it was obvious he was hiding something, I became more determined to find out the truth.
"Who are they?" I repeated my question.
"A young girl like you won't be able to take them on. Just give up." The Old Man scoffed, still avoiding my eyes. "Just because you have this little ability, don't be arrogant and think that you can solve everything."
"That's not up to you to decide. You only need to tell us what you know." Tom frowned as he took over the conversation.
The Old Man scoffed again. "What can two young folks do against them? Just stay put and let the nature take its course. It's been written that that man you're looking for would be taken by them. You can't challenge destiny."
"Just tell us, please. Whether he is alive or not, we will have to see him with our own eyes."
